I never got into AFI. They didn't appeal to the punkier or poppier side of me.

But really,  I never thought AFI were all that inspired.  Cliche goth crap.  I mean, there's good goth stuff out there.  AFI isn't.

AFI are ok as a classic hardcore revival band. I mean, 'Hearts Frozen, Thawed Once More By the Spring of Rage, Despair and Hopelessness', that's a fine 36 seconds of music.

But, well, I'm listening to 'My Girlfriend's Girlfriend' by Type O Neg right now. AFI just so cannot hold up as 'goth'. Though they are actually a bit goth. Unlike, what, every other band kids nowadays think is goth.

Man, I would like five minutes alone with Ville Valo and a baseball bat.

I have that on Short Music for Short People.

I dig AFI, I get a lot of shit for it, but Black Sails is a completely good album, and anything before it isn't goth, it's more hardcore punk. There stuff after it is good, but I think mostly because I liked them when I was 13.

I still listen to it everyonce in a while and still know all the crap by heart.

If you're done with him, could you pee a heartagram on his remaints for me?
I swear, every time I see that heartagram, I want to puke blood. HUARGH!

I am not commenting on AFI on purpose here, my answer would not qualify as diplomatic.

Heh heh. My claim to fame is that I was paler than Davey Havok naturally, when he was wearing full goth makeup at the time. I have a photo somewhere - it is a wonder to behold.

I'll admit to liking AFI too, although I take a lot of flak for it.  I find songs like "Girls not Grey" very catchy, while lyrically quirky enough to keep me from feeling like too much of a corporate whore.  Also, I would kill to have Havok's hair.

Not an AFI fan.  The music is boring, plus their attitude sucks.  Like, who cares how much makeup you can wear?  Shouldn't you be concerned about making a good record?

Nice! Strangely enough when I met them we were outside the Barrowlands, which has a Celtic Pub next door. When closing time came around all these wasted football fans came staggering out and proceeded to hit on the band. It was fantastic. I've never seen grown men look so scared.

I have an AFI 7" that I like a lot, the "All Hallow's EP" but I'm not sure which full length sounds like it. TRheir early stuff sound slike they were just ripping off the Offspring, and the newer stuff just sounds like crap.

Members of AFI and Offspring are good friends. Offspring covered Total Immortal off of All Hallows for the Me, Myself and Irene soundtrack. If I'm not mistaken, they knew eachother growing up.

I personally think that early to mid AFI sounds more like they are trying to be The Misfits more than Offspring though.

Praeserpium: AFI : A Fire Inside. They play an inexplicable mess of punkrock, hardcore and goth. So "ridiculous" isn't too far off :p

I think the criminal thing is that mix could be really awesome. I see some sort of hybrid of Alien Sex Fiend, early Christian Death, Black Flag and Danzig-era Misfits circa 'Static Age'.

Seriously. That would rock hard. All their songs would be about dying tragically, then rising from the grave to overthrow consumerism.

Best band ever.

I personally don't like AFI much, simply because Siouxsie and the Banshees/Creatures and Bauhaus kinda fill up a good portion of my goth band needs.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Dude, what about the Sisters? You've got to love a band that were so pretentious that they started wearing garishly bright clothes in order not to be 'pinned down' as a goth band.

They're still together. A while ago Davey(lead singer) hurt his vocal cords, so they're taking a while to put out another cd.

By the way, AFI is not goth. They're emo. Also, get over the mascara. It's rediculous to diss, judge, and label a band on the makeup they wear.

I base this mainly on the fact that every photo I see of Davey Havok he's wearing leather trousers, a :wumpscut: shirt and enough fishnet to supply an Icelandic trawling fleet.

I have three pictures of Davey in my room right now and he is not wearing leather anything or any fishnet.

Also for the record, I have nothing against KISS and am a big fan of Metallica and many other rock bands.
