A Better-sounding Yellowcard is called...
« on: 16 Aug 2005, 15:05 »

Well, its called Vanilla Sky, an Italian (I'm pretty sure) band that I like alot better than Yellowcard.

Note that Yellowcard makes my ears bleed because I hate their lead singer, so any band that sounds like Yellowcard and doesnt make my ears bleed HAS to be better.

That and Vanilla Sky has accents, which are pretty cool, and funny to listen to when depressed/drunk/bored.  And they dont have a violin.

...Did I mention Yellowcard makes my ears bleed?

Since when has not having a violin ever made a band better?

Yeah. Violins can be kickass if used correctly. All string instruments have that capacity.

A damsel with a dulcimer,
in a vision once I saw...

Right, that's enough romantic poetry.

Anyway, never forget that a violin is also a fiddle. Georgina Biddle of Skyclad is one of the few people I can think of who uses the instrument in both styles (whilst playing keyboard at the same time I might add) and it smokes.

Not totally simultaneously. She has one of those braces that keeps the violin stuck in her chin even when she's not holding it. So she can take her hands off the violin, play some keys, then violin, then keys, etc.

I don't mind Yellowcard. Course, I've only heard the one song on the SSX3 soundtrack, but still. No worse than most of the pop-punk crap out there.

Balalaika's are actually pretty snazz.

One of my favourite songs, 'Lemuria' by Therion, has a lot of balalaika on it. They have, like, three balalaika players.

Mandolins ftw, though they don't work so well in metal.

I think Yellowcard is sort of weak for punk or whatever they claim to be. They need to get a better vocalist and update their view that softcore is better than hardcore. They reak man. And yes, string instruments when used right can rock pretty hard.

I've never enjoyed Yellowcard. The very notion of refering to them, the same as Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and all those pop bands, is laughable. They are not punk - they are manufactured.

As well, pretty much any instrument, when utilized correctly, can be effective in a song. All that it has to do is bleed together and sound good. That doesn't mean that all instruments should be used together, but it's fun to experiment.
