MY friend found the worst song ever. Someone had left a cd in his truck and my friend decided to let me hear one song from it. It was a cover of Purple Haze. It started out sounding really bad, than came the vocals it was all growls. It was so damn horrible.

Anyway does else have any really bad cover songs they would like to share?

Machine Head - Negative Creep

People shouldn't've even try to cover Nirvana. I think Velvet Revolver did one as well, and that one wasn't as bad... the music to it was good, but I didn't care for Weiland's vocals.

When I was at the V festival I found out that British popster Joss Stone has covered The White Stripe's Fell In Love With A Girl. Oh. Dear.

Worse, I found out because she was on the damned stage a few hundred feet away singing it. Grumble.

I didn't even know she covered those. As I write this, my tears of angst meld with the midnight blue of my keyboard. A great shout erupts from the bowels of my self just thinking of her covering bands that don't suck horribly. "Doubleyou tee eff! You horrid, horrid bitch! Ahhhh!"

While I'm pretty sure that Jason Mraz is just a gigantic severed alien mutant clitoris, that still doesn't top this black metal cover of the Doors' "Light My Fire" that I heard one time. Oh man it was bad. At least they got the keyboard track right, but still. Abysmal.

But it's not like Chop Suey is a classic by any stretch of the imagination.

How about "Every cover of 'Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2' is entirely unnecessary?"

How about "Every cover by Fred Durst is unnecessary?" (this goes with "Every song by Fred Durst is unnecessary").

How about "Every ironic pop cover by a punk band is unnecessary?" (this goes along with "Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are unnecessary")

You know, just to get things rolling...

Hush! Don't you know System of a Down are the best thing to happen to music since the transistor?!

And thanks for mentioning Fred Durst, because his cover of George Michael's "Faith" really, truly is the worst cover ever.

I dhbnoi, some covers of another brick in the wall are ok, Alice in Chains for instance, and I've never really heard anyoine who rapes it. it's not like it's even one of their best songs in anything but the publcis sick scik imagination. Not their worst, but not their best. It's not like anyone ever even bothers fucking covering See Emily Play or Astronomy Domine or One of These Days or Wishg You Were Here or Tiume or anyt of the good shgit.

Fred Durst is just unnecesary periuod. I reads some of his liner notes once. DIEDIEDIEDIEDIE.

No, the real reason Avril Lavignes cover of Chop Suey is so band is because it's live, unprocessed etc. and it really does reveal her as the fucking antithesis of any musical talent. I could cover chop suey better, and i'm not bragging, it's not that hard to platy. She doesn't even do the guitar. she can't sing it in tune, she misses hald the words, it's not fast enougj, it's beatle even fucking music the fuckjing candaian skank. I mean, and I liked that song, it's got nostalfuia value for me. Fucking rape. Although I'm sure there's worse. Who covered that I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL song andf it's not even fucking roCK?@!

Actually Khar: I've heard a dance cover of "Comfortably Numb" once. It made me cry. It actually flat out butchered part of what I felt for that song. Definitely my personal worst ever cover. Number one with a bullet.

Also: are you drunk? Man, whenever I type like that, I'm drunk alright :P

Dance-y cover of Comfortably Numb would be from the Scissor Sisters.

*shudder*

And that song used to bring me to tears everytime I heard it. I saw a Pink Floyd tribute band a few months back and was horrified that most of the people singing along to Comfortably Numb were obviously singing it in time to the cover. *shakes fist*

Oh sweet god, the dance remixes...

Poison... Sweet Child O' Mine, Boys of Summer, many more I've blocked out of my memory. It always worries me when my local radio station starts playing good, classic rock songs, because it generally means they're trying to hook into the buzz that the new dance version is generating.

Anything a chav listens to has to be put through a filter of basic bass beats and catchy electronic tunes, while sung by a woman who sounds like she's having trouble keeping enough breath in her lungs to make it to the end of the line properly.

Otherwise they implode. Or realise their usual music is shit.

Word.

That's the danger with hearing covers: you'll end up liking them, and might find yourself disappointed when they turn out to be "only covers", thereby totally ignoring the awesomeness of the originals.

True, but if I find out something is a cover I'll seek out the original just to satisfy my curiosity. I used to love the Dixie Chicks' version of "Landslide" before I heard the original. Both versions of "Comfortably Numb" are okay, but I just like disco. (And I hate Pink Floyd in general, but that's another thread.)

I really like Sum 41's cover of The Scientist, they even stuck in different words.  Oh wait.

I'm really not a fan of Bright Eyes version of Mushaboom.  Conor Oberst needs to stop whatever he's doing and go back to singing about vampires.
There's also Faith No More's cover of War Pigs.  No fun at all.

The Beatles' White Album should permanently be off limits to covers.  As should Imagine - I hate, hate, hate A Perfect Circle for even suggesting to cover it, none the less make it depressing like they did.  I shall strangle Maynard James Keenan, and all his occult and lachrymology theories.  Curses.

This statement also holds true for My Chemical Romance, Cradle of Filth, and just about every now crap band that stopped singing about Vampires. Except Atreyu. They just need to stop.

I specifically remember them mentioning that they will never hurt you. They also used to sing about murder, robbing liquor stores etc. Yes, it was all metaphors and whatnot, but they were cool metaphors and not just sucky crap.

(or, fuck but I hate 'I'm Not Ok')

They've degraded musically as well, but that's besides the point.
