No, I mean, what we're talking is:

Quote

And now the nightclub sets the stage,
for this they come in pairs she said
We'll shoot back holy water like
cheap whiskey, they're always there

Someone get me to the doctor,
and someone call the nurse
And someone bought me roses,
and someone burnt the church,
We're hanging out with corpses,
and driving in this hearse
And someone save my soul tonight,
please save my soul

Can you take this spike?
Will it fill our hearts with thoughts of endless
Night time sky
Can you take this spike?
Will it wash away this jet black now?

vs.
Quote

I'm not okay
I'm not okay
I'm not okay
You wear me out

Forget about the dirty looks
The photographs your boyfriend took
You said you read me like a book, but the pages are all torn and frayed

I'm okay
I'm okay!
I'm okay, now
(I'm okay, now)

But you really need to listen to me
Because I'm telling you the truth
I mean this, I'm okay!
(Trust Me)

I'm not okay
I'm not okay
Well, I'm not okay
I'm not o-fucking-kay
I'm not okay
I'm not okay
(Okay)

Gay selloutz!!!!11

I'd have to agree - if you're in a band, and you're not singing about vampires, then you might just have a problem.  Or be good.  Whichever.  In that vein, the best band in the world should no doubtedly be Shield - mmm, vampires.  Here is an impartial list of songs that rock.

And oh god, for a second there I was about to read an Ann Rice novel.

All the best bands in the world have profuse songs about vampires, things that are probably vampires or at least immortal and kill shit, child vampires, and of course nazi vampires.

I had a chance to go see them tonight, but I passed. I wouldn't've minded going, but I can't afford to spend 20 bucks on a band I'd only go see out of curiosity. And they only do covers (as far as I know), it's their thing, so I think that makes them somewhat better than your average crappy punk rock band who does one cover and call it "irony", or whatever it is they do nowadays.

I can only stand so much of me first and the gimme gimmes.  They get annoying after 1 or 2 songs.

I am jokermatt999's first post.

Anyway, has anybody heard The Bouncing Souls cover of Kids In America? That deserves a mention, certainly.

Anti-mentions to "Remember Tommorrow" by Opeth and "Oops I Did It Again" by Children of Bodom(or so I've heard...It's suprisingly good).

Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only one who hated that cover! They're a good band, it just didn't do it for me.

Speaking of good covers, there's a lot of Mr. Bungle live bootlegs that are totally great fun. I am pissed that I will never get to see them live.

Dolly Parton's Stairway to Heaven.

Actually, any cover of Stairway is just retarted, its already overplayed as it is.

I thought that was Lagwagon? I'm pretty sure that was Lagwagon. Or maybe Bouncing Souls did it too, which would make it definitely worse.

One, I remember this horrible punk cover of Losing My Religion, which was disgusting.
Two, when Jessica Simpson sings These Boots are Made for Walking, Nancy Sinatra spun in her grave.
Three, Fred Durst is the third worst musician ever, just before Eminem and all of ICP.
Four, I like Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
Five, Avril Lavigne should just stop.
Six, Britney Spears doesn't even know who originally performed I Love Rock n Roll.
Seven, System of a Down is nowhere near the status of Pink Floyd.
Eight, STOP COVERING PINK FLOYD, it just doesn't work.  Especially when you change the words to Wish You Were Here, not just Pink Floyds best song, but one of the greatest songs of ALL time!  How can you change the words to Wish you Were Here, especially when you change the title line, I think that pissed me off more than any cover, ever.
Nine, I like ice cream tacoes covered in chocolate, three cheers for Choco Tacos!

Didn't At the Drive-In cover Pink Floyd? It was on the This Station is Non-Operational. I don't really remember what song they did or how it sounded. XP

I think Incubus did Wish You Were Here, only they said "So glad you're here"  and I dont care if it was a 9/11 tribute, because that song without the lyrics changed would have made a perfectly acceptable 9/11 tribute.  that song is just too amazing to try to change.  They should have just covered some Beatles song, I mean, there's millions of Beatles songs.  As long as you stay away from the Walrus, Im fine.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Speaking of lyric changes, I hate it when a lead singer will change the sex of the love interest of the song. The Counting Crows' cover of "Big Yellow Taxi" is the worst offender - he changed "a big yellow taxi took away my man" to "a big yellow taxi took my girl away". It doesn't even rhyme with the previous line, for fuck's sake. Doofus.

Yeah, Incubus is basically lame.  There are some really good covers of good songs though.  Just look at All Along The Watchtower, Dylan may have written it, but Hendrix perfected it.  I always thought that covers were a really good way to truly judge a bands skill.  In which, good bands, take someone elses song, and make it their own.  Like The Dandy Warhols cover of Hells Bells.  They transformed it from an AC/DC song to a Dandy Warhols song, but kept the basics of the song alive.  Ska covers can be pretty cool too, like Reel Big Fish covering Hungry Like the Wolf.

On another note, listen to Richard Cheese.  Lounge covers of popular songs.  He's a genius.

Richard Cheese.

"Get up, c'mon get down with the sickness,
you mother get up, come on, get down with the sickness.
You fucker, get up, c'mon get dwn with the siicknessss"

I was laughing my ass off fifty times the first time I heard him sing that.

Anything that Britney Spears or her clones have covered is BOUND to be shit.

And since, much to the dismay of many varieties of hipsters, I LOVE System of a Down, I now wish to put a hit out on Avril. I mean...I did before ANYWAY but now I'm thinking I want to do it myself...She sounds like fifty chickens getting stragled and thrown into blenders....with babies. It even sounds like she's saying "GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE" instead of the proper lyrics...
