i tend to think of them as comedy geniuses, each film bettering the last until baseketball which topped the lot. South Park is an inspirationally funny tv show aswell IMHO. Who agrees and who disagrees, and if you disagree then why?

I know what you mean about the lack of repeat viewing potential. I have the same problem with south park, the first time i see an episode its amazing but i have no desire to see them again. The drawbacks of shock-value comedy i suppose. Now Futurama....theres a show that can be watched over and over :)

I've seen Cannibal  The Musical MANY times, i love it. I think that their comedy is so stupid it's brilliant. That has to be a form of genius.

I was about to name that :) HILARIOUS movie.

"The sky is blue
the leaves are oh, so green
My heart's as warm as a baked pa-tato,
I think I know exactly what I mean,
when I say 'It's a shpadoinkle day!'"

I went to school singing that once...everyone thought I'd gone bonkers :)

I can't find any rental plae that has Orgazmo, though. (the movie they made AFTER C:tM)

Greatest south park moment ever IMHO,

Recording Guy: All right, Ms. Lopez, let's take it from the top!
*Music Starts*
J Lo: Baby, lets make a run for the border,
I got a hunger only tacos can stop!
I know exactly what I'll order:
3 tacos, 2 tostados and a soda pop!
Record Co. Guy#1: Gentlemen, we have ourselves a hit!
J Lo: I need to make a run for the border!
If you'll pay I'll take off my top!
Do you remember what I want to order?
3 tacos, 2 tostados and a soda pop!
Yeah, and don't forget the hot sauce, cholo!

Brilliance, though South Park is starting to disgust me now. The episode where Jimmy has to deal with his erections and the one with the teacher on the constant life support were TOO much. There was more gasping and "Aaaaahhhhwwww, NASTY!" than lauging, to be sure.

But, still...

"I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark
When he made Pear Harbor..."

Try and see "Cannibal: The Musical! "

It's SO low budget, but it really doesn't matter. The songs are genius. How can you not like
"sometimes
The world is black
and tears run
from your eyes...
and maybe we'll all get - really sick!
And maybe we'll all die...
soooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Let's build a snowman! We can make him our best friend!
We can name him bob or we can name him george
we can make him tall or we can make him 'notsotall',
SNOWMAN!
He'll have a happy face, a happy smile, a happy point of view
if you build me a snowman, then i'll build one for you!

(etc)

Or...

Hang the bastard,
hang him high!
hoist  his body to the sky
it's as nice as a day can be...
Won't you come to the hanging with me?

etc...  (with a Musical style street dance)

Including... a COW BELL SOLO!

I tend to think that Matt and Trey are funny when they're not using their projects as a medium to express their own personal and political views.  Team America was on and off like that, and South Park has been hit-or-miss a lot lately.

Orgazmo was brilliant, though.

Yeah, South Park BLU still cracks me up today,

"careful? was my mother careful when she stabbed me in the heart with a clotheshanger while I was still in ze womb?"
the mole was teh cool.

Team America was funny for the first few times, and I actually watched it twice in a row and it was still pretty hilarious.  I think movies stay sort of fresh with you if you keep watching them with people who havent seen them.

south park the show?  hilarious.  unfortunately my brother and i were getting my mom into south park very well until the "jennifer lopez" episode, and my mom almost killed us when Cartman gave Ben Affleck a handjob.

Orgazmo is actually on sale in the "new releases" in my local Best Buy.  Didnt know if i should have bought it tho, so i didnt.  I am now the saddest wookie for not buying.

is there a difference between stupid and genius?  This day and age, the general consensus seems to be no.  And that is because you haven't seen RPM, and let me say one thing, DO NOT WATCH RPM.  Not that it has to do with Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who's work I greatly appreciate, more that it has to do with stupid.

Where is the pretension in south park? I've always thought of it as very simple, brutal humour.

Trey and Matt are two of the funniest people around. And the sheer craziness of their stuff makes it great for re-peat veiwing in my opinion. Not some of the SP episodes, but all the movies.

You missed the best part...
"If you build me a snowman, then I'll build one for you. So, let's build a snowman! We can make him our best friend. We can name him Bob or we can name him Beowulf! We can make him tall, or we can make him not so tall. Snowman!"

There is just something so indescribably funny, to me, about the idea of a snowman named Beowulf.

Cannibal is just stupidly hilarious (I really need to buy it sometime). South Park, both the movie and the show, are also hilarious, but are also very, very clever, and often bust out some brilliant social commentary-styles. Orgazmo I haven't seen... Team America didn't really do a whole lot for me.

I count myself among the few who think they're stupid, and not geniuses. I haven't enjoyed a single thing I've seen of theirs. Not my cup of tea. I like my humor with a little less idiocy.

I saw "The Spirit of Christmas" about a year and a half before they got the deal with Comedy Central to do South Park. I have been a fan since. They, along with The Daily Show, are the most intellegent and honest shows on television when it comes to "the issues." They have yet to do wrong in my eyes.

Except that "I'm So Ronrry" song went on a little tooooo long.

At least once a day, an IT technician can be heard to say 'Pass me that hammer, i want to end it all' or 'Hans Blix!' or 'Bakala, Durka durka, Mohammad Jihad!' or any reference they can think of to that film. We once phoned up the night shift guys and when they asked who was calling, can you guess what we answered? That's right.............
