A great indie band from Sheffield, think Libertines-meets-Futureheads-meets-The Rails. They rocked Reading Festival this year, their debut single sold out on presale alone... basically, I think they're great.

(Sorry, I'm new, but I did a search and there were no topics about them.)

PM me if you want MP3s. Or better yet, have some. :D

They are indeed the best new band of this year and the best British band since Muse or Radiohead or so, in a very different way. And luckily for us, very British, so unlikely to make it big in the states, which suits me fine.

He's not from San Fransisco he's from Hunter's Bar,
I don't quite know the distance but I'm sure that's far...

Over there there's broken bones,
There's only music so that there's new ringtones...

I may not wear classic reeboks, or knackered converse, or tracky bottoms tucked in socks,
But all of that's what the point is not,
The point's that there ain't no romance around there...

Oh, interesting! ive always had a soft spot for brit rock.. being obviously british, and northern to boot makes it easier to identify with than the bawlings of suburban american kids.

I decided to listen to seek out some stuff on account of their lyrics being pretty good.

The music didn't live up to it

Gosh darn.

Wahey! My two favourite bands :D And Snow Patrol, and Coldplay...

Quote from: Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts
At least he ha'n't got a Nova
Or a Burberry 'at
They got engaged
No intention of a weddin'
He's pinched yer bird
And 'e'd prob'ly kick yer 'ed in

Quote from: From The Ritz To The Rubble
Last night these two bouncers; one of em's a'reight
The other one's a scary an' his way or no way
Totalitarian
He's got no time for you
Lookin' or breathin' how he don't want you to
So STEP OUT THE QUEUE he makes examples of you
And there's nowt you can say
Behind they go through to the bit where you pay
And you realise then that it's finally the time
To walk back ten thousand eyes in the line...

Quote from: Scummy
An' she's delighted when she sees 'im
Pullin' in an' givin' 'er the eye
Because she must be fuckin' freezin'
Scantily clad beneath the clear night sky
She dun't stop in the winter no

The newer songs are the best (like the quoted songs and Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor), especially Scummy. :D The Libs, The Strokes and The Futureheads all rolled into one. Great stuff.

And Alex Turner is really quite cute too but that's not the point now is it?

Looks like the cats very much out of the hat with these guys. Shame. I think they're right though with "you're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham, so get off the bandwagon!", too many british indie frontmen are doing this faux-strokes accent thing atm, pathetic.

Oh yeah, and I'm liking the Arctic Monkeys, though from what I've heard, they aren't anything really special, just good.

But Coldplay, Muse, Snow Patrol and the 'head are Alt not Indie so :P right back atcha :D j/k And Thom Yorke is a lyrical genius even if it is pretentious. (And weird post-OKC, but still good.)
I know a lot of people hate Coldplay for being overproduced and overplayed but their first album is simple and beautiful, they went downhill when they went out of their way to write anthems.
Snow Patrol are great, the old guitary stuff is great, the new dark stuff is even better, Gary Lightbody is cool as fuck and a real sweetie, and they're great live as well.
Muse just kick fucking ASS even if the lyrics are a bit shit sometimes and they can't find a good video director. Best live band I've ever come across and their two second albums are pure genius.

So SLAG THEM NOT. *menacing*

Ahem.

Oh yeah, Arctic Monkeys, brilliant brilliant brilliant.

Is nobody going to play the Cure card?

I didn't think much of them. Bad music with a bad wannabe Robert Smith yelp.

Meh.
