Have you tried Helloween? Some of their stuff sounds like Iron Maiden, and most of it is very good. I would also advice you to check out the forced listening thread, I discovered three excellent bands there.

Judas Priest, Saxon, Black Sabbath, HammerFall, Edguy, 3 Inches of Blood, Morgana LaFey, Twisted Sister, Cathedral, Viking Skull, Dream Evil, Orange Goblin, Stratovarius, Helloween, Venom, Pariah, Candlemass, Vicious Rumours, Hawkwind, Tad Morose, Manowar, Dio and King Diamond.

All variations on the theme. No real order. Go fetch!

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

True that!

Check out Liquid Tension Experiment. They are totally brilliant prog, and they will blow your mind. Download 'Paradigm Shift'. If you dig it, go out and buy their other stuff too.

Demons + Wizards first album

In Flames are awesome yes, personally I'd recommend "Colony" or "The Jester Race" albums. Avoid "Reroute to Remain" and "Soundtrack To Your Escape" unless you want every metal fan you meet ever to tell you that you enjoy the taste of cock.

(Seriously though, the albums aren't as bad as most people will tell you, just a very different and non-melodic death metal style)

Also consider listening to Kreator, Xentrix, Dark Tranquillity and The Haunted.

edit: oh durr I have Nile in my sig and forgot to recommend them. Listen to Nile!

Ok I'm done.

In Flames is the quinnessential Gothenberg metal sound. The Haunted are also great for this type of metal.

Recently, I've been listening to Dragonforce. They are a great over the top Power Metal, what with the singing about flaming swords and dragons. Amazingly catchy and fun to listen to.

As long as you don't listen to Into Eternity. They're a local band for me and, uh, just don't encourage them. Their scene is gone, the hardcore scene is reaching its peak from which it can only go down... we need a good scene where I live. Dammit.

At The Gates! Dark Tranquillity! Arch Enemy!

And DT and AE are at least still pretty good. AE are actually arguably getting better again.

Haha, damn Khar you beat me to it.

Yes, definitely, if you like melodic death check out AT THE GATES the only band who really shines in this genre.  (Stuff like Dark Tranquillity and In Flames were sort of mehhh. . not horrible but nothing like good ole At The Gates)

Here are some good (less extreme, more accessible) metal bands:

King Diamond
Manowar
Blind Guardian
Dream Evil
Therion
Judas Priest
Slayer (Seasons of the Abyss and before)
Destruction
Mercyful Fate
