Okay. Here is the problem, I am trying to get into a chat room that runs on Java. I cannot get Java to install on my wee lappy properly. My lappy is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro, its got a celeron processer and a teeny hard drive.. 40G i think. I have been trying to install java from the java website. Ive tried doing it using the automatic download and the manual. When I get to "verify intsllation" it cannot verify. last time the console window opened up but thats the first thats happened.

I am a completely computer illiterate, and my stupid fiance was too busy playing EQ to help me. grr. Please someone fix this shit. I have uninstalled Java and am awaiting your commands. Please help me.

My stupid lappy all its innards

yey! All my specs and crap are in the first post, theres a link that takes you to the "support" website for where I got my compy (also where the gamer  fiance  works and is there til2.)

Im using IE6 and Xp home ed.

I downloaded Firefox yesterday in an attempt to fix it. I also updated my graphics (cause someone else suggested it).

Right, run windows update. Download all critical patches, and service pack 2 if you havnt got it already.  Check back after every round of updating, sometimes new ones pop up because they are dependent on the batch you just downloaded..

Anyway, firefox should allow you to automatically install a java plugin. Once you come across a place that uses it, you can just click to install it. You can also install microsofts version of java from the windows update site as well.

right.. done that. Its on automatic update anyway. so there were no new critical updates... So I downloaded a bunch of random ones for XP. Firefox isnt working with this either. And I'm getting the same pile of crap. :|

Firefox is much better than IE anyway, so you might want to give it another try.
