I know a gal who has a Florida and a Minnesota on the back of her calves. I think it's supposed to be representing her and her best friend. I think there are cooler ways to commemorate a friendship, I guess, but at least they both have okay shapes.

I should get a North Dakota on my butt. It would just be a stupid-looking rectangle.

(OH PS something that makes TX more okay that Jon can't refute is the fact that Sam is there. So ha!)

Get it on a visible spot like the back of your hand, and don't label it. That way when people ask why you have a block tatooed on your hand, you can be like "it's north dakota, where I'm from geez" and look at them like they're an idiot.

Probably because it would likely be an entirely hideous tattoo. It'd be either entirely too busy AND look incomplete at the same time.

Sam's hair alone is much cooler than your macho posturing and Shane's pseudo-punk semi-emo softness combined.

I don't know who Rachel is, so she can't be all that.

Uh I guess, but this could be true with any tattoo. The trick is to discuss the placement, size, and shading of the tat with the artist and not just pick a random photo and smack it on there.

I feel like I've see some decent designs lately:

That drawing makes no sense though. I could swear the Zakim bridge is on the other side of the Charles from the Prudential and the rest of the skyline.

Texas gave us Bedhead, Buddy Holly, Ornette Coleman, Butthole Surfers, Bill Hicks, ZZ Top, Red Krayola, 13th Floor Elevators, Big Boys, Scratch Acid, Allen Drury, Walter Prescott Webb, John Gray, Robert E. Howard and many more. Dallas, Austin, Denton and a few other places are supposed to be amazing.

I don't understand.
We want those things?
There's also Amarillo.
That entire city smells like BBQ sauce. :[

the armadillo is the official state mammal of texas.

armadillos get run over in texas all the time because their natural defense mechanism when they see a predator is to curl up in a ball and just sort of go into the air. armadillos think cars are predators. people driving cars think armadillos are stupid.

so, if you:
a) live in texas,
b) drive a car,
c) see a lot of armadillos, or
d) two or more of the above,

please be nice to armadillos! they don't know any better.

Or even better,

I was gonna throw James Rosenquist in there too, but finding a decent picture of him was harder than i thought. Google showed me a heck of a lot of his art though, which I think is fantastic.

(My point with that picture is that every state has good and bad things! I kind of like the Mass. tattoo)
Gah one new reply: My friend is doing something similar with the Minnesota- she's putting stars where she's lived. FUN FACT! When I was in 5th grade, MN came close to losing the top little chunk. There is only a really little chunk of land there that's surrounded by water and by Canada. It doesn't come in contact with the rest of Minnesota at all. The US changed fishing regulations, so my great-uncle (he is a Big Name there) and most of the other people who lived up there threatened to cede from the Union and join Canada. It was just a publicity thing, and I'm pretty sure the fishing rule was revoked. It's less stupid when you realize their economy is run on fishing and it would have crippled basically every business there.

A girl at the coffee shop I frequented most of the summer had on her arm a solid, dark blue tattoo in the shape of the great lakes, it was actually pretty cool looking.

Something along the lines of this:

My state (West Australia) is a pretty cool shape and if I had any pride at all in where I came from I'd get it inked.

My tattoo artist has a small tattoo if Wisconsin on his hand, with a little dot on his hometown. It's kind of cool, but in a "Wow, that's kind of lame" sort of way...
I don't have enough Stateism (is that what you would call pride in your home state?) to get Wisconsin tattoo'd on me. I don't even have enough NATIONALISM to get something patriotic...I'll stick to books and comic books for my tattoos.
(I want my damn Deathly Hallows, but I have no money, and no artistic skills to draw what I have in mind...argh).
