Hipster things are not always bad.

ANYWAY

Kittens, I really want another piercing while I'm saving up for my half sleeve. Suggest? I already have a septum, stretched lobes, and one conch, all my other piercings have been taken out.

some jobs care about visible tattoos and some don't, and either way anybody can pursue any kind of body modification for any reason they want and it is absolutely none of your business to tell someone what norms they should conform to or what they should look like so i highly suggest you shut the fuck up and stop making contemptuous judgments about people you know literally nothing about, okay

Yeah, you should stop doing that. because I didn't tell anyone to do anything. And you Assume I'm not covered in tattoo's. you don't know a fucking thing about me but you make pointed, snap judgements about me that you want me to value.

I like tattoo's. I plan to be a TATTOO ARTIST.

besides that, Do I really come across that angry? it always seems people here respond to me like I'm mad at the current convo. I've never been more than slightly miffed at this site.

Do I really come across that angry?

Sometimes...  But what I guess gets people's backs up is that whenever you are criticised, you defend your original remark without showing any sign of trying to see why it was criticised - and often compounding the original misjudgement in the process.  You need to think more, not just about what you say, but about how people react to it, and why.  It's not necessarily a matter of right and wrong, but simply of getting on with others in a community.

If you only read the first sentence in edwina's post, then yes, that's a dickish thing to say. But the next few sentences show that it wasn't actually directed at anyone here.

You can not disassociate comments from context or conversation. It's easy to read into those remarks that the author is correlating avian and nautical tattoos with being a useless ass, and it is posted on the heels of someone posting their avian and nautical tattoos.

I assume there was no direct malice in the post, that seems fairly clear, but, like, it was pretty much tactless.

I've had plenty worse directed at me in these boards. for something as little as stating I liked a popular band. somehow I got over it. you can't casually ask someone to die in one post, then be like OHBUTTHATSSORUDE! in another.

And I do realize in saying YOU i'm referencing a minimum of two people as one. but hell, for the climate here my posts are pretty Venomless.

So because some people are rude to you that gives you the right to be rude to others? Right. That sounds like a great way to become a part of the forums. Also, you've been posting in the Let's Be Nice to New People thread so you KNOW a mod has asked us to be nicer. But that doesn't mean that regulars have to be nice to new people. That means everyone should try to be nicer to everyone. If you act like a dick, you'll get called out on it simple as that. So if you want people to stop saying mean things to you, stop saying mean things. If someone yells at you for liking a popular band in the music forum, either tell them to piss off or ignore them. Taking it out on other people is immature and, frankly, annoying. I don't see what the big deal is here. Get over it and move on.

Now, don't take this the wrong way either. I am not telling you to go away and I am not doing this to be mean, I'm telling you to suck it up and get over it. There are a large number of elitist fuckwits on this forum, especially in the music forum, and at some point just about everyone has been made fun of. There is a reason I don't even look at the music forum anymore! If you are friendly, people are going to be friendly. If you are a dick, people will be dicks right back. So either stop digging yourself into a hole or expect people to keep treating you the same way.

People have said this several times in other threads about similar situations: Think of this place like a party. A lot of people here know each other (and have actually met in real life) and come here to generally have a good time. When someone comes into a party that nobody knows and acts stupid, that doesn't make people very happy! And they won't want to get to know you. BUT if you come in and are pretty cool, then other people will want to talk to you! So yeah.

Ok, I just want to make one point.  Non of my tattoos are meant to be hipster tattoos.  Without starting an entirely different tangent, I'm not a hipster, far from it really, but that's not the point.  All of my tattoos have significant and personal meaning to ME, which I think is the best reason to get a tattoo in the first place.

I don't particularly care whether or not anyone else likes them, though thanks to anyone for the positive feed back :-).  There's occasionally a tattoo posted here that I don't care for for one reason or another, but that's my own business, so I don't post criticism that's based on my own ideas.

As for that back-of-the-head-face thing, I think the scariest/best part is the hair grown out for the eyebrows.

I think the real question is did his hair grow like that in the first place (and someone told him, "Hey, the back of your head looks like a face!")?  Or does he shave around the face regularly, taking care not to clip the eyebrows?

So tattoo thread,

I got my first tattoo on Monday, on my shoulder. The guy said that it's a little tricky because I have stretch marks there from puberty, weight loss, etc., but after it was over it all looked really good.

Smash cut to three days later, some of the hard lines have disappeared completely in little sections, he offered a touch-up session for things that get weird like that on the day of, but what should I count on for success rate for that? Will it actually help?

yeah, touch ups sometimes need to happen so nothing really out of the ordinary there. It shouldn't be any real issue with the touch-ups. He might just need to do something as simple as drill it in a little deeper. Most likely it'll be fine afterwards.

I took my mum and my brother to the piercing place to get these, and my mum looked like she wanted to run very far away from the place before she even stepped in and saw the heavily pierced guy behind the counter. Welcome to my life, family!

SHINY NEW SPIRAL SHINIES

They are too big :( The lady in the store said they would fit fine, but they are easily a size bigger than my holes are now. I can't take them back because they won't accept them, and ben doesn't want me to stretch my ears up to make them fit, so I don't know what to do. Upsetting.

If it's only one size, you'll barely notice the difference. (Those look pretty small. As in smaller than 2.) Also yes, your ears will shrink down pretty easily if those are in fact smaller than a 2.

I am pretty sure they are 4mm, or at least that is what I think the little tag on them said. I also didn't really want to stretch up another size in the first place, but I really like these earrings. Ben and I had a talk and worked it out, so I now have a plan of action! It involves going to the place and saying "hey, that stupid bint said these would be fine but they really are not. Can i get some smaller jewellery for the time being so don't have to wait longer to put in pretty jewellery? Also, can you tell her she is an idiot?" And I will stretch them later. This means having some sort of confrontation and spending more money, which are two things I didn't really want to do, but it also gives me something to work towards, in that I can keep these around to look at and make me want to stretch up.

That sounds like a good idea, since it is in fact her fault. Maybe see if they have gauge cards, too. I got one from BAF and that helps me double check sizes when I get things.

i hope you don't actually plan on doing this, people make mistakes all the time and accidentally selling you the wrong product is a really comparatively minor one. no one got hurt or died, nothing got damaged, your life is fine. i'm sure if you just told her she made a mistake she'd apologize and try to sort things out.

Yeahhhh, don't be that customer. Just try not to have an attitude when you go in. Especially if this is a place that has nice jewelry (and it appears it is) it is a good idea to not make yourself a dreaded customer for a simple mistake. It seems a little odd they didn't caliper it while you were there, but it's incredibly easy to misjudge jewelry size, especially at the smaller sizes. Part of the catch with organic jewelry is that it is always labeled as Xmm (within 1mm) because it's all handmade. It's pretty rare to get exact measurements on jewelry when it's ordered. I would also suggest having your current jewelry measured when you go in, since I'm assuming this is an actual piercing shop, so that you can get as close as possible.

Also yeah, in all honesty, until you get to 13mm (1/2") you're unlikely to have any problems sizing down.

Of course I didn't actually do that. I went in and the lady was there so I went up to her and explained what was the issue. She seemed a bit surprised, then took me over to look at the other, smaller ones, explained that pretty much all the ones I liked were either 2.6mm or 4mm, so I got some 2.6mm bone ones. I am downsizing but I can always go back up again, it's not that big deal. I was just annoyed because I got told by the guy there when i stretched up to 8g that it would mean i would have a wider range of  spirals to choose from, but that they had none that I liked there, so I had to go down a size. One of the piercers came over to see what was up and gave me a discount because they couldn't exchange anything, and was apologetic, and I really didn't have a problem paying full price for more jewellery because I will probably stretch up to this size sooner or later. I just wanted to wear them now, not in a few months after stretching up and being positively sure they are happy.

Also it was the first even slightly negative experience that I have had with these guys, and I plan on going back to them whenever I want to get new piercings or stretch up, so I'm not going to be a bitch just because of something as little as that. I haven't seen her the other times I have been there so I think she probably is an apprentice, which explains a bit, and i guess giver her some leeway or whatever.

Seriously though, do I seem like the kind of person who would go in and say something like that? I thought it was kind of obvious that I am not like that. I was seriously considering leaving them in as far as I could get them and stretching up slowly, rather than go and slightly maybe mention a little that they were too big for me. I am pretty sure I will never in my lifetime be rude to people in a place where I want to buy something, especially not to people who will be wielding large needles around me and possibly stabbing said needles through bits of my body.

You could totes just leave them in and move up slowly. You'll probably find within 3 days you're up to 4. Of course, that depends on your body, I just went from 8mm to 12mm in 3 days cause I've done it before so I've still got some stretch in the skin. Huzzah, nearly back to where I was before surgery!

I hope mine will stretch back up that easily. I had 3/4" in each lobe and had to take them out because I was in the hospital and not allowed to leave my bed to clean them. I was wearing metal tunnels which always irritate my lobes if they're in too long.

Right now I'm back at a loose 00g. Jewelry is expensive, which I apparently forgot in the 3 years that I was at 3/4". I used to have 00g rings that were sorta heavy that would be perfect right now but my friend borrowed them and has not returned them after 2 months and a lot of asking.

I'm incredibly tempted to do a DIY implant of magnets in all honesty. I find paying for the pre-coated magnets well worth the investment, since the the gold plating would add a 2nd layer of protection in case the silicone ever breaks down.

I do have the next few months off of work...
