Oh that'd be so cool! I wanted to do something similar, but with bones and muscles underneath :) I did this picture of the kind of thing I was interested in:

<awesome tatt idea>

But I'd probably get something a bit smaller...

Is there any chance I can convince you to maybe draw up a design of the idea I had? With the gears and whatnot? I've tried but they keep coming out looking like mechanical vaginas. Damn you H.R. Geiger!!!

I've been seriously contemplating getting a tattoo on my inner left arm.

Perhaps this, less detail of course. I'm low on cash.

It's probably painful, right?

Yes, but how long it hurts and how much depends on where you get it. Mine on the shoulder blades, despite size, hurt fiercely for a week.

I dunno about marriage but just knowing who Of Montreal is has gotten me a couple dates.

On the tattoo front though I want to get a couple lines of runes, google futhark if you want to know what I mean, under each collar bone.  Heritage wise I'm Irish, German, and Swedish and so I've thought about getting a tattoo on my back with all three flags with their corners touching so theres a triangle in the middle and then around the outside possibly the serpent biting its own tale done in knotwork.

I want to get a white ink fractal on my back, but I don't even know if I'll find an artist who'll do it let alone whether it'll look good. Does anyone have a rough idea of how much mid-sized custom tattoos cost?

Judging by your name, you're a kiwi right? If so, are you in Auckland? If so, go see Dean Sacred at Illicit on K Rd. It'll cost you about $150 an hour and you'll have to book several months in advance. On the otherhand, he's probably the best artist in NZ and will not fuck your shit up. Although perhaps one of the other artists at Illicit would do a better fractal.

When I have the money, I will get this on the left side of my chest, right over my heart. Although I'd want the lynx to be less drunk looking and more noble....I have a clan history flyer thing up on my wall and that has the best drawing I've seen of it so I'd probably just take that in to the shop. But, need money.

I'm thinking of getting something for my left shoulder, I was considering maybe a spiderweb with little skulls in it but I'm not sure about the spiderweb thing. I'm also toying with the idea of a skull wearing a top hat and a monocle that I saw at my grandma's place. She embroidered it for my grandpa many many years ago and it is hanging up in her apartment, I've been mesmorized by this image ever since I was little.

This was my Christmas present to myself --sorry the pic is a bit small, it was taken on my cellphone right after I got it colored. --By the way...It's Rogue, from X-Men (and the idea came from the cover of, I think, issue 192 of X-Men from September). I have some people tell me it looks exactly like her, and other people don't see it. They're obviously not X-Men fans.

I got my first tattoo as an 18th birthday present (though it had to happen a few months after the fact due to a show I was in).

It's on the back of my right shoulder- a purple ribbon (think your typical pink breast cancer ribbons) outlined in black, with black writing of my brother's name written in the loop at the top, and "1978" and "2002" in the ends of the ribbon.

Purple is the ribbon for Hodgkin's lymphoma, which is what my brother died of. His former girlfriend paid for it. She's got a similar tattoo on her lower back (with her nickname for him), and her sister has a smaller, plain ribbon on her hip (she's got the same birthday as me, and is the one that found the purple ribbon).

My mom and many friends were freaked out that it would be visible in summer, or if I ever got married...but as I pointed out, why would I want to hide something with this meaning?

Aw, that's really sweet. I think I want to get a memorial tattoo for my Aunt Robin when she dies. She has cerebral palsy and is bed ridden. Doctors told my Grandparents when she was born that she probably wouldn't live past 16 or so, and she's now over 30. However, for now, I think I'lll stick to comic book characters ;) I've still got this idea in my head for a matching Wolverine on my left leg, and a bamphing Nightcrawler...

I know the feeling, I've been itching to get some new work done for a good 8 months. I've currently got the base plan for a near full torso piece in mind. Nowhere near done with it, but I have parts of it decided on and I need to finalize where some of it will be going. I need a ridiculous amount of money to get it all done though, which means It will be years before I can seriously work on it. Until then, 1 or 2 Tattoos a year is all I can get. :(

My friend got skull and crossbones on the left side of her stomach, and recently got a lower back tattoo of her two dogs.  She didn't know exactly how she wanted it, so she asked the tattoo artist to draw her up something.  It ended up being the cutest "tramp stamp" tattoo.  It has huge paw print in the middle of it, and one of her dogs on each side of her back.

She's getting a tattoo of her astrological sign(scorpio) I designed for her.  And we plan on getting matching tattoos, which I designed aswell.  It's based on our elements; she's a water element and I'm a fire element.  It may seem silly, but we both believe in astrology.

My sister and I are eventually going to get matching tattoos that say "sisters," but we want it in another language and we haven't picked one yet. All's I know is that I want it to be really small (quarter sized or so) and on my inner ankle/foot area. I just don't want it to be visible all of the time.

My sisters and I (eventually) want to get something like that, unfortunatly we can't seem to agree on anything... ::rolls eyes;: Plus, my older sister (by 9 years) is a total wuss, and my younger sister (barely by two years) is still only 16, so...it's not like we're in a rush. So far we've moved from the Charmed Trinity symbol, to doing that in a barbed wire, to something with flames, to something with our initals, to...I have no idea what they're set on now. I'm just kinda like, whatever guys.

I also looked up excellent pics for my future Dark Mark tattoo --yay! And I was thrilled (and slightly disheartened) to find the mass amount of people who already -have- Dark Mark tattoos, but they've all done them -wrong-... Or at least, I feel that they are wrong. I shall have to read Goblet of Fire to quell my annoyance...

Also, I am close to picking out a future Wolverine to match my Rogue (above), and a Nightcrawler for my shoulder when I am a skinny bitch who isn't paranoid about dropping a shirt in front of a male tattoo artist as I want it on the back of my shoulder (There is only one man I will let tattoo me now, haha...well, one shop I will let do my comic book tattoos. You have to love comicbooks in order to do good tattos, methinks).

Depending on what language you use (so how long the word is), getting it that small won't be a very good idea. As you age, it'll be more likely to turn into a quarter-sized fuzzy blob. Usually, the bigger, the better. I could be wrong though- make sure to ask questions about that if you ever do decide to go in.

It's a modified symbol for a local band that I am friends with called Phantasm. It's on the back on my right shoulder and I love it very much. It was my first tattoo and I got it back in November, my second tatto is a black wolf paw print outlined in red, which I don't have pictures of yet, but I need to get it touched up anyways since my collar for my coat rubbed up against it since the weather was still cold and I had to wear a coat.

It's only been about a month and already I want more, though I have no idea what. I have been thinking of getting 2 left foot prints somewhere which would symbolize a song called 2 Left Feet by the band I mentioned above.

PQ4, if you don't get those Wolverine and Nightcrawler tatts the internet will lose all respect for you AND YOU DON'T WANT THAT! I've been thinking about getting Skeletor on the back of my left leg, holding up the Havoc Staff. I can't find a pic of it but if you've seen the original Hem-Man series you know what I'm talking about.

Yay tattoos, w00t!

Anyway, as my first official post in the forums (aside from the "Hi I'm New!" thinger), I figured it would be super cool of me to share my tattoos...all two of them.

The first one is some serious business:

That is on my back.  It's got a few meanings, most obviously: music-is-my-life.

The second is an homage to my late Grandfather, who, like I am, was a Libra (this ones a lot bigger so I'm just going to link it): http://a893.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/01376/29/80/1376230892_l.jpg
That is on my left wrist; his initials are woven into the Libra symbol and read JJM.  I'm pretty big in to Astrology too, so that also occurs as a testament to my beliefs.

I want more tatts, cause they really are addictive.  Next on my list is to get the word "believe" on my right wrist in my own writing, and I'd also like to get an Om on my ankle, as well as something for my mom (who is my hero and battling breast cancer) somewhere, but I'm not sure where or what.

Anyhow, those are my tattoo shares :)

Hm, I could ask for help here. A friend of mine asked me yesterday to help find her some tattoos of lillies and/or drawings that would make good tattoos of lillies. It's supposed to be for a guy, and, well, has to be pretty, but not "flashy". Subtleness or something discrete would be appreciated, at least not as big and colorful as this one:

If I were to get a tattoo, it'd be a small ladybug, because ladybug in Norwegian is "marih?ne", as in "Mari hen" (which sounds insanely stupid in English), and my name is Mari, and they're kinda supposed to represent luck (when I was a kid we used to make as many wishes as there were dots on ladybugs we found). But I don't think I'd ever get one.

Yeah, I've been itching to get my other leg done for ages, just been waiting on the money. Luckily I get paid on Friday, and have my birthday on the 20th, so I should have the cash to go get it done.

Also, I'm extremely excited that Des Moines's best tattoo artist, Dante, is back from his world travels, so I can start working with him on my back piece. I'll be getting a full back of a phoenix to compliment my sister's smaller back piece (not a tramp stamp, but close). It will be done in black and white, but then I hope to get flames worked in over it in UV ink. All of my ink has been planned for at least 5 years, so it's very exciting to have it coming together.

Kinda sorta but not really. UV ink thus far doesn't have a good track record for holding up for long periods of time, and I've heard accounts of a few people having long term allergic reactions to it. I personally wouldn't get any UV ink until more research and fine tuning is done, but when done well it still looks amazing.

I've seen people who've had good results. I don't plan on doing the overlay until I have seen more, but the back piece itself will most definitely be done by the end of this summer.
