Same.  I think it's just lazy American-ness.  We don't want to call them "tea towels," so we just call them "towels."

If it is the towel I am thinking it is, I call it a kitchen towel, a dish towel, a dish rag, or a wash rag(alternatively, a wash rag can also refer to a wash cloth, which is a small towel you use in the tub).

The only towel I just straight up call a towel is a bath towel, which is what I use to dry my body off after a bath or shower, but even then it sometimes has a longer name.

I'm American, by the way. Complete with a terrible "midwest southern accent" that I get made fun of for regularly.

What the fuck else would you call a bath towel? And does anyone know that weird name for a wash cloth (the cleaning yourself one)? I can't be anymore specific than that.

We always called wash cloths washers.  Which isnt very weird I guess.  Unless you are a plumber or something.

I have no ink and thus probably don't belong in this thread, but... seriously, man?  The only people I've heard use the phrase "a real unicorn" non-ironically are four-year-old girls.

Add New Zealand to that equation.

When I was 14 I wanted a tattoo of a Myrddraal from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time fantasy series. I am fucking glad I out grew that phase. Lately I've been itching to finally get myself a Maori tattoo which I've also wanted for a while but never had the money/balls to do. It'll most probably go on my forearm, since I have girlish twiggy upper arms.

That is probably going to be my next tattoo. I am still debating how I want to get it done, because I really like the way color works in it, but I don't love the layout completely. What I am thinking of doing currently is spreading it out, so the angel figure will be probably on my right shoulder blade, and maybe the tiny goat down on my lower left back? Or maybe the donkey with the little house and the woman and child. Either way I've got about 3 months before I can even consider getting it.

As a Fruit Roll-up obsessive, I feel I must correct you in that they do not make a cherry Fruit-Roll-up. The color in question would be strawberry and unicorns would be right to eat only them, as they are about the best thing ever.

Are you Maori at all? Cause if not it's a bit ridiculous to get something from a culture you aren't part of and probably don't particularly understand. I don't want to demean your idea or anything but it can be quite insensitive to take something, moko and other symbolism for instance, that normally require a lot of mana to be worn (e.g. chiefs and so on) and have some random passerby wearing them. (Mana is Maori for... well it doens't translate well but it's a combination of power, charisma, spiritual strength etc etc) So if you don't have the necessary mana you're pretty much devalueing that symbolism...
Cause, that's just my interpretation of it.
Still have no pics of my tattoo.

Guys adding the population of New Zealand into the equation of how many people refer to hand towels as "tea towels" does not swing the vote at all. New Zealand is smaller than my city. This does nothing.

Rugrats was -awesome-. I'm really sad that "All Grown Up" didn't take off as well as I had hoped it would. It was pretty good concept, but they just didn't do enough to get it to survive.

Anyway, I am taking my Mom in to the shop today to plan out her first (and possibly only, I don't know) tattoo! It will be awesome, once I get off my butt to go see why my Photoshop isn't working so I can peice it together for her... Argh.

I had higher hopes for All Grown Up as well, even though it obviously wouldn't have the same antics and childish interpretations of the original.
Nicktoons was brilliant in general. Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Angry Beavers, Invader Zim, Ah! Real Monsters.

Sounds frustrating. D:
My mom got her first tattoo around 40 and now, at 50, she's got about 8, including a big tribal backpiece.
She's pretty hardcore!

There's a whole lot of nice work in this thread!

The Chinese Symbol for Double Happyness.  Both me and my wife have it for us and for the twins.

These are for my twin girls and they aren't done yet.  This one is for Maya.  Maya's angel doesn't look that sad when you see it in real life, I should probably take another picture of it sometime.

And this one is for Phoenix...

P.S.  The ribs and spine certainly do hurt, but I think it's totally worth it.

I'm saving up to get the line: 'Second star to the right and straight on 'till morning' tattooed on my hip in two lines of nice, solid black text. I'm a big Peter & Wendy and Peter Pan fan. I originally, when I was young and stupid, wanted to get Wendy tattooed on my thigh, and while I still love her, it just seems dumb now. I want the line because a) it represents to me dreaming and still wanting to reach your dreams and b) I'm a Disney freak. I love Disney. Their old movies make me go squee.

Then I want to get a shamrock since it is a family tradition and I might get our family crest somewhere, but I kind of hate our family crest.

And I still want to get a teeny, tiny Harry Potter tattoo. My justification is that Harry Potter was such a huge part of my life for nine years. NINE YEARS. I lost a friend when that series ended. I've seen PLENTY of people with Tolkein tattoos, so damn it, I can be a geek too.

...Dude, you need no justification. I wanted the Dark Mark since I was 13 years old (or was I 14? Eitherway, I along time!) and I got it last July. It's pretty awesome, even though half of the people who compliment me on it have no clue what it is (not because it doesn't look like the Dark Mark, just because they are illiterate jerks).
I'm getting the Deathly Hallows symbol too... There are plenty of "fans" out there who have only become fans since the movies came out that have Potter-tattoos... So just get something awesome.

I do not reccomend snitches or lightening bolts. Or wand sparks --I don't get those.

It depends on what kind of "fan" they are. I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate HP fans out there who only started to read the books after the movies came out, but there are also those "fans" who only continue with the fandom because the actors of whom they have mindless crushes on. I personally have little desire to see any of the rest of the films. I don't really care for many of the films that are based on books anymore --they never turn out right. I don't really like seeing movies anyway and would much rather read, so it's not like it's a big loss for me.

And, I'm kind of serious about the illiterate jerk part --I come from a pretty hick-part of Wisconsin. Some of them don't even know that Harry Potter -is- a book. I am not even kidding.I've had maybe...five or six people since I got the tattoo in July actually KNOW what it was.

I have never ever ever read a Harry Potter book. Ever. I'm not into teenage dramas, or wizardry/witchcraft, not in my books(well the teenage drama part. Wizardry and witchcraft are ok) anyway. I've seen two(maybe three) of the movies. They are fun, and mildly entertaining. I wouldn't call myself a fan though, since I don't care enough about them to actively seek them out. But just because someone thinks the characters are hot, doesn't mean they aren't a fan. If I recall correctly, you write fan ficitions about Harry Potter. I'm not sure if any of it was slash, but I mean, isn't that kind of harboring a crush on the characters? Crushing on a character doesn't make someone not a fan. Stop being such an elitist.

And just because someone doesn't read Harry Potter, doesn't make them illiterate. Like I said, I've never read a Harry Potter book ever. I don't intend to. I do, however, read a number of other books. I'm currently read a biography of Bukowski. I love David Sedaris. I'm a huge fan of Brautigan. So calling people illiterate jerks because they don't read Harry Potter is kinda silly.

And a number of people didn't know The Bridge to Terabithia was a book before it was a movie either. Same goes for American Psycho, Door In The Floor, Simon Birch, Cider House Rules, Hotel New Hampsire, The World According To Garp, Rosemary's Baby, etc etc. I could go on if you want me to.

Rosemary's Baby is all kinds of good. American Psycho the movie = suck, but the book is amazing. One of my favorites. I've never read Psycho, but I hear good things. Is it gory at all? American Psycho is filled with gore, which is pretty much why I love it.
