My dad used to tell my brother that if he wanted a tattoo, he would have to get Darth Vader tattooed on his forhead.

He was joking of course, and our parents dont really mind that my brother and I are planning our tattoos.

Jodie, tell your brother to get someone who's really good with a fine liner to draw Darth Vader on his forehead and pretend its a tattoo - just to see your parents reaction.

Do you guys believe in memorial tattoos/piercings?  Like if somebody got a mastectomy, they would tattoo on a rosebud or a lipmark instead of a nipple, or like for a back surgery they would get a rad dragon or something to accent it rather than cover it up?  Well I was thinking of doing that but lamer for my ear, which had a really bad infection for the last week and I thought it was going to go deaf.  Maybe an antitragus.  Thoughts?

go for it, my lungs are because I had terrible lung problems, they wouldn't stay inflated and the doctors thought I had lung cancer, so I had two Pleurodesis, which are very painful surgeries where they fuse the rib cage and lungs.

Narwhale, you don't have to quote posts right above yours.

Ampersand,...I dunno. Sounds interesting. I guess calling it a "memorial" piercing is strange. But go for it! Body art is always (in my opinion anyway) a great way to celebrate something (in your case, getting better!).

Just because of the subtlety and the fact that you can only see it in parts. I think it'd be nice having something behind my ear, for example, and then you can just see a bit of it if I put my hair up in a ponytail or something like that.

People with stretched ear lobes! I need your help!

So, I've been stretch for awhile now. I'm up to a 0. Originally, this was the size I had planned one going to, but it just seems so small now. The only problem with me going up bigger sizes is I live in a tiny ass town, and all my piercer sells is smaller gauged spirals and claws and whatnot, and then large gauge plugs, and he wants me to stretch using weights. However, I'm not really 100% comfortable with weights. I mean, from what I understand, they tend to put pressure on the tissue they are pulling on, and thinning it out. That has me all worried.

So my questions are:

1. Are weights safe? What did you use? What was your expierence?

2. Are there any good places to buy tapers, and things for stretching ear lobes online? I can't seem to find any.

Body Jewellery Shop is pretty good, they have a load of different stuff so you can stretch with tapers or crescents or whatever. They have some nice plugs and tunnels too. No weights though.

Weights are notorious for thinning earlobes, so I'd definitely say stay away from them.

I actually wouldn't bother with tapers at your size. Instead go to Wal-Mart or the like and grab some Plumber's Tape/TeflonTape. All you need to do is every 2 or 3 days add 1 or 2 layers of tape, and then oil the hell out of it before putting it in your ear. Allows you to stretch slowly without tearing and works wonderfully.

You should either have calipers to measure the new jewelry compared to your taped jewelry, or just eye both and hope you get it right.

www.bodyartforms.com Perfect place to shop and I'll get into more detail later.

I'm thinking of getting a daffodil tattoo. I'm having trouble figuring out where I'd want it placed. I'm thinking of the back of my left calf (I might get a rose on the right), but I'm not sure if that's a good spot or not. Any ideas? Also, does anyone know whereabouts would be a good place to get it done in Montreal?

If I ever did scarification, it would have to be in senile old age. Right now, if I seriously had second thoughts about a tattoo, there is always the laser to look to. Scarification is seriously forever, and requires some serious aftercare for which I have no patience for, and don't know many people who do. I barely get through tattoo aftercare without any issues. I would seriously fuck up scarification.

I dislike it when people talk about tattoos as if they're not permanent. They're as permanent as the rest of your body (which can be changed with plastic surgery), laser removal is expensive and imperfect.

I dislike it when people talk about tattoos as if they're not permanent.

I totally treat my tattoos as they are permanent. I don't have the money for laser, even if I -didn't- treat them as a permanent piece of my body. But I know a lot of people use laser as a useful tool to lighten and rework pieces. It's a viable option for many.

I -love- my tattoos. Why would I ever want to laser one off?? It's people who don't think them through, or just get one "because they can", that get laser when they realize that "damn, that was stupid". I put a lot of thought in my pieces, and I kind of feel sorry for people who don't, with theirs.

...Damn, that was a little preachy. I obviously need to stop watching old WB shows now.

It's at a bit of a funny angle (the picture, not the tattoo), but I had this done 3 weeks ago on my right pec. It's pretty much all done with the scabbing and peeling now, but this photo is from last week when it was still pretty scabbed over.

Kian and Kaiden are my nephews/godsons, and I've always had a thing about bears (symbol of protection, plus I think they're feckin' awesome).

I am back from letting a man slice my tongue in twain! We did not have a video camera so no video, but we got several pictures.

Just to be safe, let's assume it's NSFW

http://www.flickr.com/photos/48788676@N00/?saved=1

I drooled a lot as you may have noticed.

The procedure itself wasn't bad, the stitches were annoying as hell and my tongue felt like roadkill for about an hour or so afterwards. AS of right now it's very very swollen and a bit sore, but not really painful. Admittedly, I'm also popping Ibuprofen every 4 hours so that may be a part of it.

Where bouts do you live Drill King?

If you're seriously wanting this done, I'd recommend joining IAM. It will ease your way into getting a practitioner to even consider doing it for you if you join that community. As I'm sure you can understand, it's a grey legal area so most folks will want to know you're not going to cause them trouble afterwards and that you seriously understand what you're getting yourself into.

For a long time I wanted to get an udjat eye on my shoulder, but as I looked into it I found that they were really common.
Then I thought a noose wrapped around my neck and hanging down my back would be cool, but I can't imagine a situation where I WOULDN'T regret that.

Come to think of it though I've got this amazing portrait in my room I found at a thrift store for fifteen bucks, and if I was going to go full out with the tattoo it would look really amazing across my back (I think.):

On a related note, I know a guy who's got his own name tattooed across his ankle.

That is a very interesting picture.

As for the 'your own name on your body" thing --I know quite a few people who got tramp-stamps of their names in high school, or their initials --my ex-best friend (from like middle school) got her initals the back of her neck right after she turned 18, for like 25 bucks at "tattoo party", by some friend of her uncle (who probably doesn't even know the first thing about serious tattoo work...). After she had it done, I had to listen to my friends be like, "Why would she do that? That's so dumb --she's not going to be AK forever..." I just rolled my eyes and let it go...

I don't know why girls get their names on their backs... maybe it's so guys know what name they should be shoutin' out when they're backdoorin' 'em. Whatever.

On my own tattoo front, I want my Deathly Hallows (and considering incorporation of a pheonix) soon :( We'll see... I gotta get my Storm touched up this week sometime if my artist can fit me in...
