As long as you change it every 3-4 hours

It shouldn't be replaced, it should just be removed after a few hours.

There's also the problem of long time artists having a problem with changing their techniques. Obviously it's not true of all, but you'd be amazed at how many long timers refuse to go with newer more sanitized methods because they personally don't see anything wrong with what they're doing.

And yeah, Saran wrap is fine. Any artist who uses it and is worth going to will tell their client to take it off within a few hours.

And yeah, Saran wrap is fine. Any artist who uses it and is worth going to will tell their client to take it off within a few hours.

Thing is, everyone I've talked to that has used the Saran wrap has put more on after a few hours. Which is why I figured saran wrap and F'ing up tattoos was synonymous.

I dunno, seems like a regular bandage is just as useful, and it doesn't make you sweat like the saran wrap would. Since you take it off after a couple hours, people can see it anyways. Bandages also soak up some of the blood that continues to leak out, so that is helpful.

Tattoo question now.

Ever since I was fighting last thursday my tattoo has become more, I guess the word would be textured? Like it has become where you can feel all of the lines. Is it normal for this to happen when you get hit a lot on a healed tattoo? (it's been there since ~June)

Ah, that would be the problem then. The only time you should really put anything at all on it is if you know it'll get the shit rubbed out of it otherwise. Like say, you just got a foot tattoo and you absolutely have to wear shoes. I mean, there's certainly nothing wrong with the bandage, but with the saran wrap you can guarantee that the person is going to have no trouble getting it off and no possibility of it sticking at all. It really is an issue that's simply preference. I could see someone arguing against it because they don't want it to absorb anything. I could see it being a worry that it could encourage the ink to leech out during the first few hours, though it seems pretty unlikely.

As far as your tattoo goes, it's possible it's just small amounts of scar tissue from lower layers.

meh, it seems to have gone fine. Ash has been tattooing for years and has tons of tattoos and I really trust his judgement (Oh, and BTW if you happen to be in my town and country any point and you want a tattoo- go to Custom Art tattoos which Ash runs. It is small, but awesome) I kept the clingfilm on mainly cause it was on my back and I didn't want the bugger leaking all over my sheets. Took it off as soon as possible to let it breathe.

Also, yes. Everyone was telling me to go for something smaller for my first one, on my arm or something, and I thought- No. This is my birthday present, I'm getting what I want done , and if I go for my biggest one first no other one will be as bad, apart from possibly the filling in that still needs to be done on mine.

Every medical professional I've talked to agrees with this. Band-aids actually make you heal slower!

Yeah, the practical reason for the initial wrap is mainly to give you a few hours to get used to get it set in your mind that that spot needs to be left alone. Especially since your not just wanting it to heal, but wanting it to heal without screwing up the tattoo due to laying on it or rubbing it against something, and you're almost guaranteed to forget that a time or two.

Anytime after that first few hours that isn't really necesarry? LITHA is your friend. Leave It The Hell Alone.

Well, it can be smart to have a bandage on it if you get it in the summer. You sure as hell do not want a fresh tattoo exposed to direct sunlight. My first tattoo was miserable because I was an idiot and got it at the end of July and was forced to wear long jeans for fear of burning the skin.

Well, in that case you should wear a shirt (with long sleeves if needed, or not shorts or whatever) instead, cause if you have a fresh tattoo you shouldn't be doing anything in the sun when you're not wearing a shirt/pants. Despite how amazing it is to not wear pants.

When i got the outline on my chest I was told to put saran wrap on it when i work because i was a butcher so my chest was rubbed and moved a lot.

But that was just to relieve friction and i took it off pretty quickly.  And my entire chest is textured, like the outlines of almost everything is raised.  This is the same with another friend with a chest piece, so it could just be the spot.  And mine is more textured on the part that had to be redone.

Yeah the Great Conjunction diagram on my back has been a bit raised for a while now, or rather has sunken in, but that's rather like all my scar tissue. I guess I'm lucky that I basically wear nothing less than jeans and t-shirts everyday anyway, even in 40 degree heat.

Emaline, what, no!  I want a poster!

And guys. GUYS. GUYS.  Seriously, let me say again what I said last night.  I don't actually care what you think.  So I am going to get it done because I like them.  And if EVERYONE else hates it, and I still like it, I will keep it, because I really don't care about how other people perceive me, and whether or not the internet thinks I look dumb.  And if I get it done, and I hate it, THEN I CAN TAKE IT OUT.

It is not  permanent thing, let me do what I like without having such a giant cry about it!  The way some of you are acting it is like I am trying to put things in your nose, not MINE.  Which is mine to do with as I please.  I'm sorry if I cound cranky about this but seriously guys, what the hell?

That is all.

While we accept that, the whole you not caring about what we think thing is a two way street. Since you don't care, we can say "It won't look good" and it doesn't matter because you don't care what we think, right?

Anyhow, I hope it makes you happy and I guess you are doing it for the right reasons, so have at it.

I don't really care what you do with your own face, Jodie.  I made my initial post mostly in jest based on what I've said about this kind of thing before, but then felt compelled to explain my own viewpoint when others disagreed.  If this conversation were in Gabbly I probably would have said the original thing, you would have told me to shut up & I would have said "ok!"

So guys, for the past month or so I've been thinking about the aum/om/ohm, I really like it in a lot of ways. However, do you feel it would be disrespectful if I was to have one tattooed though I'm do not practice Hinduism/Buddhism/Jainism/Sikhism/etc? I practice meditation and subscribe to certain ideals of some of the religions associated with it, however, I do not practice as any of them. I just kinda want people's views on this. Personally, I believe it's disrespectful, but I take the idea of religion more seriously than some others on this forum.

It would also, in part, depend on your reasoning for getting it. If you just think it looks cool, I find that kind of dumb and disrespectful, but if you subscribe to at least some notions behind the idea of the religion, it might be acceptable. The idea of coopting a religious symbol for a tattoo when you don't believe in said religion feels to me kind of like getting someone else's family crest done on yourself.
