I am locking this, and any subsequent "What am I listening to" created until you guys can learn to play nice.

Just because you nearly five thousand posts doesn't mean you can be a condescending ass to newbies.

I am re-opening this as I have heard from people involved via PM.

I promise both of you I will get back to you, though meat life is busy so you might not hear from me for a few days.

As for the rest of you, enjoy, and behave.  I'm watching.

I don't think anyone on this forum is honestly of the mentality that equates post-count and e-penis size. I mean, I don't see endless 'OLOL I REACHED 1000' etc. threads here as I clearly remember from forums I have attended in the past. Maybe a note to the end of a post ("Ooh! A hundred posts! I have been here a lot") but I don't think it means anything. Conversely, this is a cool 'metathread' or thread meme that sparks off lots of little interesting talks about music, imo.

Into Eternity-Buried in Oblivion

Crazy Canadian death/power/prog with a mix of sweet soaring power vocals with harmonies and variety of grinding vocal styles.

And yeah, I haven't noticed the 'Oh lets make me post count soar' mentality here much either.

Wait, how can you have a free jazz cover of anything?

I think by "free jazz cover" he means "they break the song". I suppose they could start with certain elements from the original song and improvise around them, but that's not really free jazz either. If done well it could be hella awesome enough to justify the misuse of the free jazz label. So I will assume that they do it well.

On the topic at hand, I don't listen to music. Ever.

@people talking about free jazz: Wiki!

And yes, they got it right. Free jazz isn't about completely random individual improv. and such. It didn't entirely do away with structure. Free jazz is just really experimental be-bop when you get down to it. The Bad Plus covers are just massively deconstructed versions of the original songs.

Also, on the subject of The Bad Plus, and someone having mentioned Aphex Twin covers, they played "Flim" last night. That basically was one of the best things ever. Except maybe for the part where they played a segment of "Thrift Store Jewelery" with essentially metal drumming, insane jazz bass, and stride piano. It was CHAOS!

The Bad Plus - Prehensile Dream
