On a much more somber note, there's Carousel. How can a poll of favorite musicals possibly be valid if it excludes anything and everything Rogers and Hammerstein ever did?
In other words, how DARE you?
Earlier this year, while babysitting someone else's kid, my then-girlfriend and I took him to see a high-school production of
Carousel. Since he was only 5, we both expected him to get bored after a while. So we brought along crayons, a coloring book and other goodies to keep him occupied, telling him in advance that any time he wanted, he was allowed to do something else. But damned if that kid sat absolutely still, wide-eyed, for the whole three hours as this spectacle unfolded before him.
And yet when it was over, we couldn't get a word out of him.
"How did you like it?"
"It was OK."
"What was your favorite part?"
"Uh, I dunno."
