Ahhh Johnny Depp is God. Anyone else agree?

He is an amazing actor, so awesomely unique, flippin sexeh and is basically cooler than anyone will ever hope to be. :)

My favorite movie of his is Benny and Joon, but I also love Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Neverland, Edward Scissorhands, From Hell, Secret Window, Sleepy Hollow, Don Juan, Gilbert Grape, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... and yeah basically all of em.

Woo!

Johnny Depp is a panacea. He's the one thing in this world that everyone can agree with. Men and women, liberals and conservatives, white people and black people, Hindus and Muslims: the one thing they all share is a love of Johnny Depp.

My friend has a very fair criticism of Johnny Depp: as entertaining as his roles may be, they're not real people--they're all exaggerated caricatures of people. When was the last time Johnny Depp played a real person?

What's Eating Gilbert Grape? might constitute real. But that's a pretty valid critisism. ALot of his roles do fall into that.

Well, he likes playing unique roles. Even the most "realistic" of them have some odd quirk, but that's life. Many of the movies he's in might have normal characters, but an abstract plot. That's one of the reasons I like him so much... hardly ever see any boring or crappy reality.

Fear and Loathing was an accurate portrayal of HST. other than that, I agree. I was really disappointed in his roles in Willie Wonka and Pirates.

As much as I adore Johnny Depp (which I do), something that aggravates me about him is how utterly boring he is.  If you ever listen to a commentary by him on one of his movies, or watch an interview on pretty much any program, you realize he is a really really dull person.  He truly is a great actor, but as a person, he annoys the hell out of me.

I can't believe you left Fear and Loathing off that list. Hell, that movie is quite easily my favorite movie from the 90's for the Christopher Meloni cameo alone.

And as for the criticism that Depp only plays charicatures, I don't see many characters in movies that are anything like real people at all. The entire buisness of movies seems to be to see how far from a real person a movie character has to be before people will stop giving a crap.

He played a totally realistic, and indeed historical character in Finding Neverland.

Yup, one of the few actors who hasn't done a movie or role I haven't enjoyed.
Gilbert Grape is my favourite, although to be fair, DiCaprio really outshone him IMO.

Johnny Depp is talented, but I'm so tired of hearing about how amazing he is.  I'm starting to hate him now.

He's good, but really, people; he's not God. Not even close. Stop pretending that you know anything about acting now that you like him.

Not that I want to say everyone who likes Depp is a pretentious, trend-hopping twat; just the majority.
