If you were to have an 80s dance party, what songs would you play? I'm only going to mention two so I don't take up all of the good ones.

Fire In Cairo by the Cure
Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benatar

Yes yes and yes again. Lest we forget "Girlfriend Is Better" or "Crosseyed and Painless", there's really too many too list.

In addition, "This Charming Man"-the Smiths, "Shake Your Rump"-the Beastie Boys, "Girl U Want"-Devo, "I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down"-Elvis Costello and the Attractions, "Man In A Suitcase"-the Police, "Don't Let's Start"-They Might Be Giants, and, for good measure "Take on Me"-a ha.

I'd say the Swedish version of Devo's "Baby Doll", used in the movie Tapeheads.

I would have a weird dance party:

Kim Wilde - Kids in America.
The Cure - Lovecats.
Steve Winwood - Higher Love.
The Pixies - Tony's Theme.
Randy Newman - It's Money That Matters (yeah I said it).
Nine Inch Nails - Sin.
They Might Be Giants - Ana Ng.

Peter Gabriel like nobody's business.

And Khar? if "Cars" works as a dance tune (which I can't decide if it does), why not just spin the whole of Pleasure Principle? It's also got "M.E." (the song that Basement Jaxx sampled for "Where's Your Head At?") and "Metal" (which I don't know if it's danceable, but it's greeat).

I think we can all agree that The Cure is the ideal music from the 80's. Therefore I suggest putting Galore on the stereo. It might have some 90's stuff on it but it's all good stuff.
And on that note, Metal by Gary Numan=yay.

Shit yeah, of course you can spin all of Pleasure Principle. In what universe can you imagine me stopping you?

Also lets have:

Dio - Night People
Twisted Sister - I Just Wanna Rock/We're Not Gonna Take It

And I can't believe I was so concentrated on the small shit I forgot to mention The Cure! I vote for Just Like Heaven as a single song.

Also, what's everyone's opinion on taking some Joy Division? Yeah, technically they're late seventies, but they had a singles compilation released in the 80's, and fuck it, but the whole of the 80's stole off them.

Well, Ian Curtis didn't kill himself until 1980, so we'll let it slide :)

Edit: I don't know why I put a smiley at the end of a sentence about someone killing himself.

We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister

Oh hell yes. But I'd also be spinning:
King Kobra - Iron Eagle (Never Say Die)
Toto - Rosanna
Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of The Heart
Starship - We Built This City
Huey Lewis - Power of Love
Van Halen - Hot For Teacher
ZZ Top - Bad To The Bone
Stan Bush - The Touch
Stan Bush - Dare
Lion - The Transformers (theme)
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
David Bowie - Magic Dance

Basically, it's all about playing as much awesome music from eighties movies as possible. Particularly if it involves Michael J Fox, giant robots or teenage boys single-handedly waging war on Iraq. But I'd also have to throw in some other party hits to really get things going:
Dead Kennedys - Nazi Punks Fuck Off
Minor Threat - Filler
Black Flag - My War
Mudhoney - Touch Me I'm Sick
Mission of Burma - Academy Fight Song
Minutemen - Vietnam
Slayer - Angel of Death
Anthrax - Caught In A Mosh
Cro-Mags - Street Justice
Leeway - Enforcer
Fugazi - Merchandise
Big Black - Bad Penny
Judge - Bringin' It Down
Chain of Strength - True Till Death
Youth of Today - Youth of Today

How could you reel off a list of old-school mosh classics and not include 'March of the SOD/Sergeant D and the SOD', 'Pussy Whipped' or 'The Milano Mosh' by the ever-awesomne Stormtroopers of Death?

I thought Whip It was late seventies, otherwise I definitely would have been having a bit of that.
