Teh QC...an indie film

Well, yeah, might as well get this out in the open.  For my highschool's film contest, I decided to make a short film based off of everyone's favorite webcomic.  With a soundtrack featureing The Flaming Lips, Guster, Beck, The Wallflowers, and more, it's sure to please.  btw, I tried emailing Jeph about this, but he still hasn't replied, and we had to start filming soon.  So far, this is what we have done.
Scene 2 (comics 3-4)
(looks like crap cause I had to scale down the file size)
It's still a work in progress.  We plan to include Dora at some point.  I've got actors willing to play each role from comics 1 - 99, even Jimbo and Martin's gay boss!  Expect to see it in all of it's awsomeness around May.

btw, please don't sue me...we're not making any money off it, and think of all the free advertiseing ;)

Ok, im not going to nitpick the casting. They were good, and im sure you were limited to friends, so i wont mess with that.

It was pretty good for a start, but if i were making it, I'd tone fay down a bit, since she's more of a calm character. Also, what are you going to do for pintsize? I dont think there are actors that  small, or that you have the time and/or resources for animating him, since its a Highschool film.

*note, I am not a director, amateur or otherwise, im just putting in my $0.02

Edit: You really should get Jeph's permission first though, with the copyrights and all. He may or may not mind, but if you're using his characters, he's gotta OK it.

lol, i didn't say it was perfect, did I?  anyway, Pintsize is going to be a model, and put into the movie through stop-motion animation (like claymation) and then a voice over will be added...
We probably will need to reshoot that scene anyway, i realized the thing about the galsses after we were done filming it...

btw, I emailed Jeph like 2 months ago...

I didn't think it was too bad.
You reminded me how terrible student actors are, i have to shoot my own short film for my HSC later in this year, and I'm starting to consider hiring a professional.
Anyway, I'd work on your sound, I'm assuming that you didn't use a boom mic, heck, even a hand held mic, tied to a broom and someone to hold it will work.
I'm assuming that your actors work for free, and as such really aren't that dedicated to learning the script and giving in a well rehearsed performance, try and get them enthusiastic, offer things such as : Booze, Sex, Porno, Fire Crackers, etc ..
If you wanna be a smartass, when Jeph changes his style in the comic, you should change the actors.

that slogan is a good slogan. so good, in fact, I think it should be applied to other things. like, "there's no wrong way to hit your spouse." or "there's no wrong way to commit nonconsentual sodomy."

Thanks.  We're shooting this with a home movie camera (also, with no budget), and my friend (the blonde haired kid) isn't that great of an actor, but, still, we're trying.  That bar was made out of tv trays and our pool table for example :P

Don't sweat critisicm too much.  Even making a bad movie always beats sitting aorund yakking about a good movie that doesnt actually get made.  Besides, this was decent enough.

I'd watch it for kicks.

On the subject of bad movies. There are always going to be a group of hardcore fans of shitty movies that make them a cult phenomenon,so either way you win.

I look forward to the finished product. I am a wannabe student film director, who is alwayse talking about the movies I'm going to make but never makes them. I hope to change that this year. Go you, with some work It could be good.

A: I haven't even watched this yet on account of having awful slow dial-up.

B: "The QC", especially underlined, always reads at first to me as "The OC". There is, however, very little discussion (that I've seen) of The OC on these forums.

Just don't make a movies that's bad, but not bad enough to be so bad it's good.

Also, if you re-shoot that scene-- and this may just be nitpicking-- but get Marten to stop doing that thing with his hands. He's obviously used to speaking with them, but trying it while your arms are crossed on a table is a bad idea. It looks awkward, at least when it's repeated.

While I'll admit it no Peter Jackson film, the fact that its QC gets a thumbs up from me.  And as everyone knows if I give the thumbs up that means its a-o-k.

Or something.

Thanks guys
I do plan on getting a boom mic (or something like it), and we probably will reshoot the scene later (can't believe I forgot the glasses...)
still, for all it's short commings, there's no budget, if anything, a negative budget =P
