I Gotsa Question
« on: 14 Dec 2005, 17:13 »

I was wondering if there is any relatively easy way I could post my comic up for free in Livejournal or some other blogging site. The method I had in mind was scanning it,adding it to Photobucket, and placing the code in my blog, but it is not large enough when hosted from Photobucket. By the way,I am computer illiterate.

Well with blogger I think you're able to directly upload the images to the website and thus have a rather large pic. But I'm not sure cause I haven't really dealt too much with it.

It's www.blogger.com

And when I used it, I remember uploading pics to it and they always came out pretty big. But not sure if it'll work for what you're hoping to use it for. So if it doesn't, sorry, that's the only way I know how to do it.

I'm actually currently using that very method (with Livejournal and Photobucket) to upload my comic, and it seems to be working very well. The trick to getting the photo to load the size you want is to make sure the image doesn't surpass photobucket's 512 KB limit. This means you'll sometimes have to either manually shrink the image or lower the image quality, which I do using Adobe Photoshop.

How big exactly do your comics need to be?

I like to host my pictures on Imageshack rather than use the Blogger hosting. There's no size limit (well, there is, but it's massive) and you can just copy-paste the code that Imageshack gives you straight into a new post. With a bit of fiddling around in the Blogger options, you can get the comics to show up one page at a time, rather than all in the one huge column.
If you need any help with coding or what have you, feel free to PM me. :)

also there's a pretty awesome imageshack quickloader so you can upload them straight from windows explorer, but i gave up on imageshack yesterday, due to bandwidth stuffs

i still use it for larger pics though

it doesn't cost very much to register a domain name, and server space is quite cheap these days (or free if your best friend / co-creator of your comic happens to run a server out of his condo).

Then, rather than having; "www.blogger.com/public/profiles/TehComic.com" or some such silly name, you can just have "www.TehComic.com".

More professional.
