Darren Hanlon is due to go into the studio again this year.  Hot-damn.  I've heard him perform some of his new material, and I'm looking forward to getting it on record!

If that tour doesn't come to me, I'll be ULTRA pissed. I mean, I've already seen them once, but still. I mean, they were the band that sort of drove me towards the music I like now, and I can't pass up seeing them.

Sonic Youth started recording, I hope it'll come out this year. I'm praying too for The Stills, Radiohead and Mogwai.

And who can trust Metallica after St. Anger?

New Shins? I'm pretty worried, it has to be something great and unexpected.

I read in an interview that James Mercer wants you to shake your booty to their next record.

Duly noted.

New Radiohead album. That's good enough for me for 2006.

About bloody time too.

And you know the guy who wrote the songs (the guitar player) left the band, and that they took a permanent keyboardist?

I don't think we'll have anything like Logic Will Break Your Heart.

And is it just me or Muse is due this year too?

I totally forgot, new Queensryche album is due out in April. It's not only a sequel to Operation: Mindcrime, but they've got Ronnie James Fucking Dio doing Dr. X. This has renewed my faith in QR after their disappointing last album.

Belle And Sebastian (are they finally doing a "return to their roots" album? Cause it's about time.)

Album's Leaked, dude.

It's no sinister.

So they say. They played a lot of the new songs at a show last fall and it's very 70's inspired.

I don't think you'll ever get another sinister style b&s album... they seem to have moved on. Which is fair enough, even if the old fanbase is disappointed.

@Praeserpium
I've only seen one Under Byen show but I wasn't impressed. Maybe listening to an album would change my mind though.

Mr Beast by Mogwai

I'm resisting the temptation to download the album I'm bloody curious about how it sounds though......

I read about flanger pedals in it and how its better than Loveless according to Alan McGee.

I have some vague hopes for Metallica... it won't "Ride the lightning" but it couldn't possibly be as bad as St Anger could it?

I guess I am probably the minority, but I really can't stand early Metallica.
Granted I don't like metal(nevermind oldschool) generally, but it just strikes me as tedious and ridiculous.
I quite prefer their 90's from the black album and I even liked some of St. Anger.

I don't even really like old Metallica all that much. It's alright, but it's nothing wonderful at all.

QFT. On a different forum, I had some gibbering poser say that Master of Puppets was the best Metallica album, and therefore the best metal album ever. I responded by posting a list of albums better than anything Metallica has ever done, ever. And I didn't even have to leave the thrash subgenre.

The point is, the world of metal would have been so much better off if Hammett had just stayed with Exodus. Exodus > Metallica. In fact, I would post my Heirarchy of American Thrash (trademark pending) here, but that would be off topic.

Nope. German. As is Kreator, actually. And Sodom and Destruction. Germany was the other big thrash scene.

And Tankard cannot touch Testament. Not even with copious amounts of alcohol.

Tankard may not quite measure up to them musically, but they'd slay 'em in a bar brawl.

The thing about Tankard is that maybe if they'd fed some of those killer riffs into 'proper' songs they would be as big as Kreator nowadays.

Let's face it, Tankard could probably take anyone in a bar brawl. They're not called 'the Kings of Beer' for nothing. I believe the members toyed with calling their genre 'alcohol metal' for a while.

If this prediction of 2006 being better is true, then we're in for some awesome music this year.

Well, '05 was a pretty great year for music in my opinion. I'm sure '06 will have its share of awesome stuff too. There is good music everywhere at all times if you take the time to find it.

Having said that, hopefully the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio albums come out this year. Also Radiohead, for they can do no wrong, it would seem.
