If you get a chance to catch them on their current tour I reccomend it. I saw them tonight and I was quite impressed. Top notch stuff.

I saw 'em open for Death Cab, and though DCFC put on a surprisingly good show, the best act of the night was definitely Stars.

I'm seeing them on Tuesday, and I honestly can't wait.  Their latest album is among my most frequently played these days and their second (which I just got) is up their.  I hope to pick up their first at the show, which I'm even more eagerly awaiting after these posts.

I am thinking of seeing them in April when they come to Denmark since I loved Set Yourself on Fire. But I haven't heard anything besides that album. So I guess I have to go rummaging through their previous albums :)

If you go to their site, you can stream their entire second (and third) album, so if you want to check it out, I'd recommend doing that.

Yeah, people can be stupid. Mainly people like you. Four years is a long time, and accidentally locking keys in a van doesn't qualify you for one of the many positions of "stupidest motherfuckers on the planet." Mainly, because it's not a real category. See, "stupidest" definately is not a word.

   That aside,

I loved Stars live. Amy is just incredible in general, such a beautiful voice. At Broken Social Scene she did Anthems for a Seventeen-Year Old Girl without Emily Haines and it still was gorgeous. She has a great stage presence too. Torquil was really great live as well, such a soft and gentle voice. I highly recommend seeing them live.

Please, people!  I know you're being snarky, but seeing that spelling of that word is like fingernails on a chalkboard!  Please don't repeat!

Woohoo.
Saw them last night.  Amazing, except for the acheing back at the end of night.  Anyone else at the Calgary show?

Didn't really care for the opening act though. Thurston Revival.

First "real" concert.  Makes me want to get to Pornographers show on the 18th.

I saw them in Winnipeg, and I'm seeing the Pornographers on the 20th. But I didn't MIND Thurston Revival I mean they were ok, have some potential. The front man broke his keyboard accidentialy at the Winnipeg show, that was funny.

I'd love to see them in Vancouver, but I just don't have the money right now.

Dayum? You don't have 24 bucks? Cuz that's all it costs, including tax and everything, and purchased at the mighty evil ticketmaster.

Holycrapholycrap I'm so glad that I stumbled upon this thread. I wasn't really expecting much for tomorrow, but now I'm hyped like mad =D

Ah! Sixteen more hours until showtime.

Do they play stuff mostly off the third album?

Just went to the Stars concert! I'm quite impressed by the Thurston Revival. I agree they weren't zomg stirring, but they're intriguing nonetheless. Even bought their EP. Haven't listened to it yet though.

I'm quite surprised by how good they were. I've always thought that Torquil would be all annoying and obnoxious and shit but somehow he's just so interesting in a live setting. Hahahaha and right before they played "He Lied About Death", he started yelling

DID YOU GUYS ALL VOTE?

Audience: ?

DID YOU GUYS ALL VOTE

Audience (being their typical selves): FUCK YEAH

Well then, WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?

Hahaha way to hate on our current no-longer prime minister designate. I guess he seemed to forget that you know, it being all ages the great majority can't vote. I can't vote! But I volunteered for the Greens and went to their rallies and shit but does my vote still count? No! Because I'm not entitled to one!

Another answer to that is also:
PLURALITY VOTING SYSTEM.

Yes.

Back to the show. Yeah. I don't know who's worse when it comes to dancing, Amy Millan or Emily Haines. I kinda want to say Emily but Amy just looks so awkward. But oh man. They were great. Great lighting too, on the beginning of Big Fight a spotlight on the speak would beam to existence right on cue when they sang their part and everything.

Torquil apparently also doesn't like hipsters, or he's just sucking up to the all ages crew.
(approximate quote) "Yeah. It's great playing to all you kids, rather than some half drunk crazy hipsters on a corner."
**points to guy at front**
"That half drunk crazy hipster over there is so far gone, he's even saying "Fuck Yeah! Fuck those fucking half drunk crazy hipsters." "

I find that it's a moot point because a lot of 15 year olds are crazy hipsters nowadays :P Not sure about the half drunk part.

My friend took videos. I may have access to them soon, PM me if you're interested =D

Torquil also seemed to have a soft-spot the younger crowd at the Winnipeg show. During "The First Five Times" he got everyone 14 and under to come up on stage and play shakers, and tamborines and what not. His reasoning was after 14 you lose all sense of rhythm. He also compliment one of the young boys on his wardrobe, but told him that he would probably get beat up in highschool by repressed homosexuals.

All in all a very great show, I loved Amy Millian though she was probably the highlight, wearing old red heels, running around. I was very impressed.

Hey! Torquil did the same thing for our show, but he lowered the age limit to 12! He certainly does have a soft spot for them.

I saw them in Vancouver as well, and I must say, it was a spectacular show.  Thurston Revival weren't particularly amazing, but when Stars first went offstage (but before the encore) I went to the merchandise booth to buy a Stars t-shirt, and I talked with them there.  The two members I talked to (the lead singer and guitarist) were both amazingly nice, and they gave me a free signed copy of their EP, just in time for me to get back to the front of the crowd to continue watching Stars.

As to the "half drunk hipsters" bit, I'm sure he was joking about that, as after he finished his rant (with a smile on his face the whole time) he said "Of course, I'm a half drunk hipster as well, so I can't really say anything" (paraphrased a bit, I'm sure).

I loved the lighting and the atmosphere, and the show seemed amazingly intimate and inviting.  The ending was extraordinary as well, with just Torquil and the keyboardist staying on to do a final song.  I tend to prefer the songs where Amy sings, but Torquil's little solo bit at the end was amazing, and quite funny as well, when he yelled at people at the back not to leave yet, and then refused to sing until all the lights were turned off.  He had a great stage presence that I reall enjoyed, Amy couldn't quite seem to keep up with it.

Okay! I finally have SOME vids. More to come.

My friend's stuff is more clips than videos though, really high quality but really short length. We were about an arms length or two from one another so that was pretty much my line of view.

http://s36.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1PDNRKWKFTGVE2NUHEUJF5AY8Q <-- dunno what song this is, I think it's off Heart?

This is from a different person so it's a bit farther back, but it's the final song by just Torquil and the keyboardist. It's brilliance.

Hahah naawww I don't call myself a Stars fan. I'm not entirely sure where the line is drawn between a "liker" and a "fan" is but I'm pretty sure I just like them more than you know, a fan. I'm too casual of a music listener to be a fan of anything. I had the album Heart for I dunno... two years now? But I only REALLY started listening to it just a few days prior to the show hahaha.

Does anybody recognize that final song Torquil did?

Well, you went to a show. That's more than I've done.

And the encore was "Tonight" from their first album, Nightsongs.

No play to the younger crowd at the calgary show.  Then again, i didn't really see anyone that young at the show (although my age guessing is really really bad now).

I would have to agree.  Amy's "dancing" was a bit odd.

Anyone else notice the violin more live than in the albums?
Who's the violinist?
