here we go:

put your method of music playing on shuffle, and list the first 7 songs that come up. even if they're embarrassing. explain if need be.

1. walk away - franz ferdinand
2. we will become silhouettes - postal service
3. everything went numb - streetlight manifesto
4. scavenger type - NOFX
5. change your mind - all-american rejects
6. i should be allowed to think - they might be giants
7. anneliese schmidt - wizo (german punk rock)

Sure, why not?

1. "The Lonely Shepard" - Zamfir
2. "Off to Work" - Michael Giacchino
3. "Plumet Attack" - Les Misérables
4. "Aqualung" - Jethro Tull
5. "I'm On Fire" - Bruce Springsteen
6. "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" - The Flaming Lips
7. "Helpless" - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young

The way I see it, if you're embarassed about the music you listen to, you are pretty much the most gutless person ever.

mm mm mm the misfits.

yeah...some people...i look through their 'pods, and they'll say "omg, sorry, that's a mix someone made for me...no idea why that's on there."

bah humbug, i say.

i think some people just say that sort of stuff because they carewhat other people think.

i have my ska, my punk, my "indie", my pop-punk, my emo, my metal, and my classical. if someone judges someone on a song they have, that's just shallow.

istanbul, not constantinople - they might be giants

two of my favorite bands...energy was an amazing album:)

random fact: i just found a patrick star balloon on the street. my friend and i took it home. he doesn't fly very well.

2nd random fact: in dupont circle today, as my friend and i were eating baja fresh, there was a alarge commotion nearby. there was some sort of scavenger hunt going on, with different teams and different shopping carts...there were the "fancy lads" all dressed up in blues brothers gear...and a super mario team...

there's dc for you...

  • Yeh, Yeh! - Mongo Santamaría. (This got onto my collection via "Silver Disc", a compilation to celebrate 25 of the "Ace" record label)
  • Whinin' Boy Moan - Van Morison (Anyone who doesn't like this man, should die)
  • Girls and Boys - Blur (I once tried to remember the whole chorus, but then I decided that I couldn't be bothered)
  • Bummer in the Summer - Love (More of a proper song than the title suggests)
  • Blue Orchid - The White Stripes (I got this on the basis that their previous albums were good)
  • Like it stands - Robert Ramsey (This is here because I share my music collection with my dad, it is good anyway)
  • Operation Blade - Public Domain (Hard House is not my darkest secret)

1. Juana Molina - Tres Cosas(argentine electronica, very good)
2. Bjork - Submarine(from Medúlla)
3. Andy Clockwise - Song for The Unemployed(from Taggart's hella cool aussie mix!)
4. Niels Skousen - Stoffer og Lenny(he is a hippie/actor in Denmark, I don't listen to it much but it is okay)
5. Bonnie "prince" Billy - Knockturne
6. Shakira - Moscas en la casa(I had some twisted idea that listening to spanish music would improve my spanish, guess not)
7. Figurines - Cursed Region(brilliant danish indie)

I don't really listen to any of this to be honest...

Lonnie Liston Smith - "Cosmic Funk" (What can I say? Shit's funky.)

Pulp - "Mile End" (from the Trainspotting soundtrack. Haven't actually listened to this one before.)

Philip Glass - "Northern Tibet" (from the Kundun soundtrack)

Ozomatli - "Love and Hope" (Ok, I admit it, I enjoy Ozomatli. There's just something about infectious about Latino hip hop.)

The Beatles - "Flying" (This song is boring. Probably for the best that it's one of their only instrumentals.)

The Move - "I Can Hear the Grass Grow" (He can!)

Frank Zappa - "What's the Ugliest Part of Your Body?" (...your mind.)

"I Wanna Be Your Lover" - Prince
"Keep Moving" - Ivy
"Double Team" - Tenacious D (this is my brother's.)
"You Don't Know Jesus" - Mogwai
"We Got" - Ludacris feat. Chingy, I-20 & Tity Boi
"Into Dust Reprise" - Femme Fatale (the side project of Jesse from DFA1979)
"Rollercoaster" - Sleater-Kinney

Neuroactive - Contempt (Hard Mix) (pretty cool song but this version seems to have some audio glitches which make it annoying to listen to)
Death Cab For Cutie - What Sarah Said (this is kinda boring and if I didn't have so much HDD space it would probably have been deleted by now)
L'ame Immortelle - Bitterkeit (L'AI by-the-numbers but still cool)
Anathema - Eternity Pt. I (good tune)
Blue Birds Refuse To Fly - Windows To The Shore (not really sure what I think of this band but it's pretty catchy)
New Order - Guilt Is A Useless Emotion (DJ Dan Club Mix) (this was one of the better songs on the latest album, not got around to listening to the remix CDM yet. seems cool)
N.Ever.Endless - For Tonight (highly underrated synthpop band. A++ would listen again)

I feel like doing it again with notes.

Dissection - Where Dead Angels Lie (AAAAAAEEEEIIIRRRRRGGGHHH!!!)
Rammstein - Links 2 3 4 (I love Mutter SO much)
Ninja Magic - Return of a Ninja (The Final Approach) (Oh fuck, this song is so cheesy and so awesome)
Joyless - Fulfillment and Entitys Embrace (Actually quite a happy track. I guess this is what you call Psych Folk or something.)
E Nomine - Vater Unser (Why does everything sound so much better in German?)
Mortiis - Parasite God (Mortiis proves that his ego REALLY IS that big, and also delivers some devilishly danceable fun)
Blackmore's Night - I Still Remember (One of the most poppy songs that I really like. Well, that's not by The Cardigans)

And no, nobody has given me space on their ipod. Generally because my friends don't have an ipod or they fill theirs up to the point where they don't need it. This is a foreign concept to me.

EDIT: And I'm totally going to do this again (seeing as we're apparently allowed to).

Edge of Sanity - Enter Chaos (DAN SWANO!)
The Soviettes - Ten (awesome.)
Faith No More - The Crab Song (I'm a little iffy on Faith No More. They're just kinda... meh)
King Diamond - Slippery Stairs (Fuck YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAIIIIAH. Falsetto metal vocals FTW)
Wumpscut - Dr. Thodt (a crazy doctor with a submissive nurse. Wumpscut still win)

by the way, kai: i did root for the fancy lads. and throughout the afternoon while i was out, i kept hearing the frantic rattle of approaching shopping carts and watched in awe, letting my ben and jerry's melt as the characters that represent jose cuervo flew past.\

I don't like the Party Shuffle, because it never picks good songs, so I shuffled manually everytime:

The International Noise Conspiracy - Smash It Up
Extol - Paradigms
Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night?
The Dust Brothers - Homework (From Fight Club ost)
Stereolab - Vonal Declosion
Bright Eyes - Oh You Are the Roots that Sleep Between My Feet
Country Joe and the Fish - An Untitled Protest

Talk to Me, Dance With Me - Hot Hot Heat
noice:)

and as for the bright eyes...good stuff. i really like sunrise, sunset...

and "when the president talks to god" is quite poignant, as i happen to live about 6 blocks from the...uhm...*ahem* very nice and eloquent man.

but i'd have to say barcelona is a prettier, and perhaps, less murder-stricken city. or maybe it's just 'cause i loooove gaudi:)

heh...the murders...don't really notice 'em...but yeah...it's better than it was during the race riots....now a white person such as i can live and frolick peacefully past the 14th street border.

Well, the murders were really bad back in the early 90's.  And my CD is done, so I'm going to load up all of my music, and go with the first.....what was it?  Seven?  How random is that?  Actually, not very.  However, without much knowledge of numerology to back my statement up, I'm not going to continue.

1.  Chicago - Glory of Love  (I thought Chicago was good, so I downloaded a bunch of their tunes, it turns out only a few are good, and this one isn't one of them)
2.  Vast - What Else Do I Need?  (Okay, I'm not at all familiar with this, and didn't even know it was on my computer.  However, I don't delete anything from my comp that I haven't listened to, so...)
3.  Richard Cheese - Closer (um...  I agree with the statement that it was good the first time, but no other time)
4.  Absu - The Gold Torques of Ulaid (someone sent me some of their stuff to try and get me to agree that Proscriptor is the greatest drummer ever, I still don't think so)
5.  Herbie Hancock - Chameleon (the Headhunters are awesome)
6.  From Autumn to Ashes - Eulogy for an Angel (again, didn't even know it was here, but goddamn it's horrible, plus the title is spelled wrong on the file...)
7.  Jimmy Smith and Eddie Harris - Autumn Leaves (ah, an actually good tune to finish it out, too bad the quality is godawful)

Not a very good indication of what I listen to at all.  Sounds like I need to actually get around to deleting some stuff, specifically From Autumn to Ashes.  I generally don't delete stuff I've never heard, but I think I can make an exception.

1. Highwaymen - Jim, I Wore a Tie Today (2:54) (I loves me some Cash and Nelson!)
2. Placebo - Black-Eyed (3:48) (Almost as much as I love Black Market Music)
3. The Fiery Furnaces - Tropical Iceland (3:25) (This may be the song that gets stuck in my head the most of ANY song... Trooopical icy icy...)
4. Billy Bragg & Wilco - California Stars (4:58) (I do love when these two collaborated. Tweedy is a St. Louis legend and he isn't even dead yet.)
5. Twista - Holding Down The Game (4:24) (Yeah... I like some hip hop. I admit it. A friend got me into Twista.)
6. Yonder Mountain String Band - Think For Yourself (2:13) (This comes from the tribute album to Rubber Soul. Has some awesome stuff especially for cover fanatics like myself.)
7. Pinback - Fortress (4:10) (I actually got into The Ladies before I got into Pinback. Weird I know.)

errr twista...urgggg...here's my two cents: i think pretty much think most (yes see the MOST)  r+b/hip hop is rarely talented. one thing i do respect is free-style rapping. that is talent. it's basically like a poetry slam.

(end two cents here)

I would generally agree. Twista is fun to listen to mainly for his ability to speed rap. I wouldn't say he has much skill as a MC.

though then again i can't say that i partake liberally in culturally emulsifying myself in the rap/hip hop genre.

I don't listen to playlists, I listen to albums, so you'd get 7 random songs off an album or an album's 7 songs randomly...

I find it unusual that there's been so many Mermaid Ave. songs but no straight Wilco songs - unless I missed one.
