Vergeroca, when you hear "Bad Moon Rising" by CCR, doesn't it sound like Foggerty's saying, "There's a bathroom on the right"?[/weird]

My guitar teacher said she always thought that was the line until she looked the lyrics up.

I see the Stretford End a'rising...

1. Bat country - Avenged Sevenfold
2. Lips of Deceit - Avenged Sevenfold
3. The Abolition of Man - Thrice
4. Into the Darkness - Kittie
5. Kill Me Quickly - Thrice
6. We Come Out at Night - Avenged Sevenfold

I downloaded a fair amount of Mastodon after the mention in the comic... The whole leviathan album really is all about Moby Dick... Rock on.

There are a lot of people posting where I can't tell if they are putting the band name first and then the song, or vice versa.  I dunno if it's that you guys are listening to stuff that's really obscure, or that my musical experiences are just that limited.

Anyway, round #3:

1. Stone Temple Pilots - "Unglued"

2. Soundgarden - My Wave

3. Guilty Gear Isuka - The Irony of Chaste (wtf, can I go 7 songs without hitting a GG song?)

4. Velvet Revolver - You Got No Right

5. Pantera - Mouth Of War (off topic:  when this song comes on while I'm in Warsong Gulch, I tend to pwn the shit out of those bastard alliance.)

6. AC/DC - High Voltage

7. Blue Man Group - Time to Start (This song still makes me crack up every time I hear it.  Rock Concert Movement #1: the basic head-bob.  Ready, go.)

Let's see
I'll do one on my PC and one on my mp3 player. This is the PC one.

1. The Other Shoe by Eels (Ah, one of my favourites from Blinking Lights. Small but perfectly formed at only 2:31. I love the sound when it kicks up a gear and the big drums and then electric guitar and the strings come in)

2. Some by Ben Folds Five (Not the best of the album but still great. Whatever Ever and Ever Amen is fantastic. People who've only heard Brick don't know jack. Nor do they know really good Ben Folds Five)

3. I Know You Well by Fountains of Wayne (One of the few weaker tracks on Out-Of-State Plates. Still a nice little pop song but not great. It is rather sing-a-long-able though)

4. Panic by The Smiths (Ah, fantastic. Possibly my favourite Smiths song ever in fact. Definitely the best song under 2:30 ever. Sing it with me kids: "Hang the DJ/Hang the DJ/Hang the DJ" etc)

5. Brand New Colony by The Postal Service (My favourite Postal Service song, actually. I love that intro and all the rather silly but endearingly romantic metaphores)

6. 5AM by Jeph Jacques (What are the chances of that? This is probably my second favourite piece of his after A March. Both of which sound a lot like Death Cab for Cutie which I personally consider to be A Good Thing)

7. Problems and Bigger Ones by Harvey Danger (Ah, fantastic. My current Favourite Song In The World Ever (probably) from a massively underrated band. Sean Nelson is probably my favourite living lyricist)

And the MP3 one (Creative Zen, 20GB)

1. The City Gets Lonely by The Prom (More piano pop. Downloaded this horribly low quality version off the Barsuk websites, but it seems like a really good song)

2. Skullcrusher Mountain by Jonathan Coulton (Wonderful acousticy-comedy pop from the most awesome provider of free music on the internets. http://www.jonathancoulton.com of course. Although it seems he's started charging or something now, still good music)

3. A Design for Life by Manic Street Preachers (Anthemic stadium pop rock. Not bad, not one of my favourite Manic tracks though. A bit bland really but there are some rather good lyrics)

4. War on Drugs by Barenaked Ladies (The best Barenaked Ladies song ever, a heartbreaking suicide ballad that shows that there is far, far more to these guys than "That Chickedy China Song, You Know, That Was In That Movie".)

5. Good Thing by Reel Big Fish (Feel good powerpop/ska-punk/pop-punk. Dumb but fun)

6. Corazon by Bishop Allen (Indie pop song about a piano. Not reinventing the wheel but it's nice and fun. I'm pretty sure I got this from Gorrila vs Bear)

7. Manifest Destiny by Guster (Yet more piano pop. And a nice way to end I think, a live track from a ludicrously uncool band that I love nonetheless. The studio version will be on their upcoming album)

If you had really eclectic tastes, you would listen to Gamelan, Pat Benatar, tropicalia, death metal, anything from World Serpent and Desolation House and Gloria Estefan. And that's not even that eclectic ;)

1. Stars - Celebration Guns(I haven't listened to that in months)
2. Mugison - What I would Say in Your Funeral(best chorus ever!)
3. Sufjan Stevens - Come on! Let's Boogey to the Elf Dance!(christmas mix)
4. Handsome Boy Modeling School - I've Been Thinking(feat. Cat Power, I bet people who don't know her will be surprised when they listen to her solo)
5. The Fiery Furnaces - Tropical Iceland(an alternative version I think)
6. Poison the Well - Crystal Lake(my little brother's recommendation)
7. XTC - Thanks for Christmas(again christmas mix)

As usual I don't really listen to any of this.

But I'm seriously possibly the only high school kid ever who bought a CD of a recording of a funeral dance ceremony thing from Ghana. Does that count?

4. Bathory - Song to Hall up High (OH MAN, THE CHEESY AMBIENCE FACTOR)
5. John Coltrane - Spiral (John Coltrane WINS)
6. Hawkwind - Avante (You know, I listen to so much drug/stoner music and do so many things that the stoner kids do that I might as well BE on drugs.)

01: Skinny Puppy - Tomorrow (goth dance, goth dance, everybody goth dance!)
02: Carnival in Coal - Baker Street (What an awesome cover)
03: My Dying Bride - Your Shameful Heaven (Losing Martin Powell was the worst thing My Dying Bride ever did. Fuck, can that man play violin.)
04: Richard O'Brien - Over at the Frankenstein Place (One of my favourites from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I absolutely LOVE Riff-Raffs entrance in this song. Talk about writing the best parts for yourself.)
05: My Dying Bride - Base Level Erotica (I'm really not sure what to make of 34.788%... Complete, but I'm not sure I dislike it as much as most...)
06: New Model Army - Drag it Down (Maybe my favourite New Model Army song. The vocal melodies are amazing.)
07: Placebo - Drag (This song epitomises Molko's capacity for writing lyrics that are both meaningful and very silly.)
08: Grave Stompers - Rubber Baby (A very odd song. "I get high by sniffing on your rubber fumes, yeah baby!")
09: Aborym - The Alienation of a Blackened Heart (Aboryms punkiest track. A real face tearer.)
10: Edge of Sanity - Twilight (Fuck yeah)

I have always wondered about that bandname, why the hell would you call yourself Croatian in Croatian? And why the hell do I know this?

AGAIN!

1. Morphine - I Think She Likes Me(Oh do I need a Morphine album!)
2. Figurines - Bright(great band, I think they have gotten some College radio airplay lately)
3. Fobia - Dos Corazones(I really need to delete some of that shitty rock en español)
4. Stars - Elevator Love Letter(I couldn't go to their show because it was some 100 kilometres away and on a week day. I hate living in the middle of nowhere.)
5. Low - Lazer Beam(one more of those bands I need more albums/an album with, I only have Things We Lost in the Fire and The Great Destroyer)
6. John Prine - Christmas in Prison(Christmas mix, John Prine FTW!)
7. Destroyer - Painter in Your Pocket(he is so stream of conscious it's not even funny)
8. Entombed - Blood Song(from Wolverine Blues, the singer is delirious and it's fantastic "I suck your blood, I suck your blood, I fuck your blood!!")
9. The Jesus Lizard - Boilermaker(something weird I downloaded, legally even)
10. The Arcade Fire - Power Out(great track)

Sonic Youth - "Mildred Pierce" ("Mildred Pierce! Waaauuugghhh!" Song frightened the hell out of me when I first heard it. I was just nodding off to sleep when Thurston Moore started screaming. Damn you, Thurston, damn you.)

Moby - "Down Slow" (From Play. I bought the album last century, and probably haven't listened to it a great deal since. This track's pretty short and forgettable.)

TISM - "Drugs are Fuckin' Fun" (The title basically says it all. This is TISM doing what they do best: swearing and offending people.)

The Chicago Rhythm Kings - "There'll Be Some Changes Made" (From the Road to Perdition soundtrack, which is one of the greatest ever written. This is a cute but forgettable period jazz piece; the score composed especially for the film is vastly superior.)

Kraftwerk - "Radioactivity" ("Raaadioaktivität..." One of Kraftwerk's most haunting songs, and in my view, one of their best.)

The Durutti Column - "Sketch for Summer" (Ah, I love this song. Vini Reilly really is a great guitarist. Just another example of Factory Records glory in action.)

The Beatles - "Back in the USSR" (One of those Beatles songs you just have to sing along with. "Back in the US...back in the US...back in the USSR!")

Son Kite - On Air (Deerdrah Mix)

From a compilation I picked up called "Trance-Scandinavian Express". Awesome dance tune.

Backlash - Hiatus³

Kinda boring synthpop. Skipped.

Pavement - Fillmore Jive

Never really 'got' this band. It's kind of chilled out and there's some nice riffs I guess but their songs always make me think "I'd rather be listening to Neutral Milk Hotel". Hmm.

Liars - Drum And The Uncomfortable Can

Not sure what's going on here but I think I like it. :)

System.Syn - All That Now Has Left Your Reach

That's more like it... some nice danceable but emotional futurepop. I really dig this band's lyrics/vox.

Current 93 - Halo

Picked up this CD randomly after Khar's constant babbling about them in the Now Listening thread. Gotta say, it's some pretty impressive shit, although they have so many damn albums I wasn't sure which one to get... no idea if this is representative of their work as a whole or not. Repetitive but addictive.

Nodes of Ranvier - Predisposed

Woah. I only got this album because the band name was a running joke among my flatmates last year (don't ask) and never actually played it, but this is good shit. Nice angry metal. The riffs are kickass.

Thrice - See You In The Shallows
Jawbox - The Big Shave
The Hives - The Hives Declair Guerre Nucleaire
The Dears - There Is No Such Thing As Love
Elliott Smith - Angeles
Le Tigre - My My Metrocard
Smashing Pumpkins - Beautiful

That's a pretty random list! Not fully representative, but still pretty awesome.

I strike again!

Most of current 93's stuff is pretty representative: they do a lot of re-recording of different versions of songs and whatnot, as you'd expect a neo-folk outfit. All you want to make sure to avoid for representativeness is their very early industrial stuff, and their 'novelty' EPs (only Crowleymass and Lucifer Over London as far as I know). Everything after Swastikas for Noddy is much in a similiar vein. Oh, but also, avoid, unless you become a big fan, those goddamn bootlegs World Serpent kept re-releasing as official stuff, the sound quality is absolutely appaling, though it is somewhat worth it for Tibets crowd banter.

Nothing Special - Local H

I really like that cover they did of Guided by Voices' Smothered in Hugs. That's actually the first thing I listened to today.
