One of the things I love about this forum, is you all know more about music than me. Seeing good things about The Talking Heads, I torrented 77, and gawd damn. It's fantastic. Which brings me to my question.

What are the must have Talking Head albums?

Certainly you've got a good start.  First, get Remain in Light, then Speaking in Tongues, More Songs about Buildings and Food, Little Creatures and perhaps their soundtrack Stop Making Sense.

I have no time to explain any of this.

My prescription: Two doses of "Burning Down the House" daily for two weeks.  Discontinue use if you experience runny discharge or develop hives from awesomeness overdose.

Don't get the CD version of Stop Making Sense. It basically gets rid of the best part; the performance itself. Go for the DVD. Best concert film EVER.

Also, Speaking In Tongues is totally their best album.

I have nothing against buying stuff online. I lack the resources (see Credit Card) to do it.

I'll check out a few more places, it has to be somewhere in Toronto.

Edit:Augh, you wern't kidding about Burning Down the House. So damned good.

well Eno did produce them and Bowie. I think, I also hope by saying that I don't look like a total ass.

Oh and the CD version of "Stop Making Sense" is OK to get, but ONLY after you've seen the performance.

Well, Eno didn't EXACTLY produce Bowie-- he only collaborated with him and played synths for Bowie during the Berlin period, and Tony Visconti actually produced those albums.  He did bring a lot to Bowie's sound during that period and similarities definitely exist between the Berlin trilogy albums and his production work with the Talking Heads (especially between Lodger and Remain in Light).

I've intentionally listened to The Talking Heads once, in the forced listening thread.

Talking Heads - Don't Worry About the Government

Starts off with a little twiddling sort of thing, then a sort of...I dunno, comic sounding vocalist pops in. I dunno, not too keen on him. The song keeps sort of 'nice' and airy. Lots of false build ups. and little 'doo doo doo doo' keyboard bits. I take it the lyrics are ironic? I really do not like the bits where he goes 'loved ones, loved ones' etc. His vocals get pretty damn annoying, pitch perfect he ain't. And then the song ends. How nice. Picture postcard nice. 2/10 nice. *yawn*

I'm prepared to believe this was just a pants song though. Lots of bands have such things.

Kirbo, my emotions, cerebrations and cognitions are wholeheartedly discouraged and disenchanted in you. Utmost am I cognizant with the gentlemanly and punctilious practice of the English language.

In surplus, I am owner of the most fantastical and prodigical comprehension in aural sensations filled with lilting lyrics and tremulous melodies pleasant to the ear.

Yeah, "mberan42" is longer than 5 letters (or "parts").

But enough, I'm leaving the office now. It's too damn hot in here, and I'm sick of staring at and entering information into my Access database.

I was so excited when I saw this thread.

I am so in love with David Byrne. And Talking Heads are my favourite band.
My favourite album is "More Songs About Buildings and Food." The track "Found a Job" is incredible.

Damn! that television. What a bad picture!

Ahhh I love them.

You MUST see Stop Making Sense. It's my favourite anything. Ever. Vague, yes. True... YES!

The Name of the Band is Talking Heads is incredible... get it on vinyl.

Legend has it Eno was also quite a bit more than a producer on Remain in Light. Just look at the songwriting credits on the back of the CD.

He isn't just "comically voiced." He has an incredibly powerful, versatile and beautiful voice that can be used for whatever effect he desires. It's not a stupid outfit. It was based on Japanese theatre techniques, and he wanted his look to be illogical, disproprortinate... not making sense.

Anyway, thank you to all the people that are capable of appreciating such a brilliant band.

Don't try to convince Khar (or me, by the way). I mean, I love the video, but whatever the explanation, it's a ridiculous suit.

Also, I didn't mention it first because Speaking In Tongues is still better.

Apart from being good!

OH, I BURN YOU.

:p

And that's the end of my involvement in this, unless I can start an argument about how Sopor Aeternus' use of japanese theatre techniques (ie, REALLY fucked up kabuki) is in fact superior.
