I just need to know how much that setup set u back?

Well I purchased the desktop (not including sound card, monitors, keyboard/mouse) in the summer of 2003 for just under $6000. The soundcard was bought a month later for $150, keyboard and mouse were a set bought a few months after that for $175, I already has a monitor back then so that'd be $6325. Now that 40GB WD hard drive wasn't in there I actually bought a 36GB Raptor but later sold it for various technical reasons.

So without going into too many stories the PC itself was $6400.

Now the monitors are yet another story. I originaly had a 24" CRT that died and I replaced that with two LCD's (the two on the left and right, the Samsung 213t's) for $4100 total. The third LCD is only a month old and it was $900 + $400 for the big stand they're all sitting on.

So in short, $7700 has been spent on my PC between 2003-2006.

I have four servers sitting in my closet which consist of a PIII 600 (Web Server), Dual PIII 1Ghz (Bit Torrent, Domain Controller, Exchange), PII 233 (Logging server, security), and a PII 300 which is my m0n0wall firewall/router. I've also got a Motion Computing TabletPC sitting in my room as well.

I like my computers, what can I say :). That and my home theater (approx $17K) are my two biggest hobbies.

I don't know why I talk on and on about this stuff no one's interested anyways :)

Cheers.

are you using your dual Xeon as a multimedia/dev rig or a server, or do you just like to spend money needlessly?

That all sounds very nice, I'm quite impressed. That will be what i buy at some point as well, but the $$$ are quite lacking atm.

That's a damn nice machine Daphoid...

Lets see is I can remember what I've got in my computer...

AMD Athlon 2000+ (1.67 Ghz)
Gigabyte Mobo...can't remember the model off the top of my head.
1gb PC3200DDR Memory.
Nvidia Geforce 5700FX, 256mb
Creative SoundBlaster Audigy II
A very cheapo case with 4 fans in various places ( I should get an Lian Li case, those are nice)
80 gig HDD, 7200 RPM if I remember correctly,
Samsung DVD-ROM
Samsung CD-RW (52-32-52)
liteon 3.5" floppy (gotta have it)
Window XP SP2 Professional.
2 15" Flat panel moniters.  I really wish I had the money for 2 of those sexy 20" Apple Cinema Displays.

It runs most games really well, and other more recient games I run with moderate frame rate loss.  WOW and Oblivion are the only games I've had to turn the graphics down on.

My Linux box is a little older, all I have it for is a TeamSpeak server:
Asus Mobo of some sort
AMD 400mgz
768 mb RAM
3DFX Voodoo 5
Creative SoundBlaster 32
8gig HDD
30gig HDD
CD-RW (48-16-48)
CD-ROM (48x)
3.5" Floppy drive
Red Hat "Fedora" Core 5 (linux)
Ed

PS.  First post, FTW.

I do web design / graphic work for my own little "consulting on the side" type deal. Mainly I use it for video games and what not.

I really enjoy it because I can be doing something processor intensive and still do everything I normally do (use outlook calander, chat on IRC, listen to music, and what not).

It wasn't really "spending needlessly" I planned for this computer about 1.5 years before I actually bought it and spent my months saving up for it.

The multimonitors is really a handy thing, I like having the ability to spread everything around and see it all at once.
