I love how on every myspace page where the kid tries to pass off as unique and intellectual they list that book (Catcher in the Rye) first in their list of favorite books, followed by "YOU SHALL KNOW OUR VELOCITY" which I refuse to even look at based off the name.

A quick google shows it was written by Dave Eggers who apperently also wrote A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius which has been getting some attention here lately.

i agree that the catcher in the rye and perks of being a wallflower were quite emo, but they were good all the same. true, also, that many people like to tell people they loved the catcher in the rye to sound deep, but it is really a great book.

In the Books that changed your life thing I gave The Catcher in the Rye top spot for real reasons. But they do deal with alot of teenage depression and angst and generally emo issues, hence the emo tag.

Sylvia Plath is/was awesome. Just fantastic. The Bell Jar does the whole disillusioned youth thing, but takes it much further. She was a wonderful writer.

Just to clarify, I am not saying it is a bad movie, but I didn't enjoy it. Instead I was pretty much in a state of utter confusion and repulsion during it all.
It was fascinating for sure but not exactly enjoyable.
