Storm Rider:
I don't really consider Dream Theater metal, but I still love them. Petrucci is one of my favorite guitarists ever and I don't really care what anyone says.
Sure, there are other technical metal bands, but that shouldn't reflect badly on Dream Theater, considering that they're usually completely different. For example, I don't compare Atheist or Necrophagist to them, because it's pointless.
timehat:
--- Quote from: RUSH2112 ---Excuse my ignorance, but did DiMiola do anything electric? Because he is without a doubt an unrivaled classical guitarist. But I've never heard anything by him electric. Perhaps I should specify. We were talking metal and I naturally assumed we were talking electric guitarists.
But what about JR and NP? Can your really find anyone better? ( I swear if you say Chic Corea...)
--- End quote ---
Speaking of Chick Corea, Al DiMeola played in his fusion band Return to Forever. FUSION. ELECTRIC GUITAR.
Dream Theater sucks my balls, by the way.

You're such a belligerent drunk.
amok:
I'm totally gay for Dream Theater, even though they don't really belong in here :D Petrucci rocks my socks. It's not just about technique, his solos are technically brilliant and awesome. As opposed to that Yngwie wanker who can play several billion notes a second but couldn't write a song to save his life. I prefer Petrucci's slower but melodic solos to mindless twiddling.
Back to metal, I've been appreciating My Dying Bride a lot recently, it's been awhile. Any other fans kickin' about?
KharBevNor:
Early My Dying Bride is one of my favourite things ever. The new stuff is okay (though I feel they've lost a lot of their atmospheric gloom and exchanged consistently brilliant albums for more patchy affairs that can offer up very nice stuff (ie Catherine Blake) among more average stuff, as well as simplifying the dynamics far too much). I also kinda like 34.788%...Complete, even though most people seem to hate it. I respect My Dying Bride for not actually turning into a bad goth rock band in the late 90's like most of their genre contemporaries.
And Turn Loose the Swans must be one of the most brilliant albums ever.
