Like the guilty pleasures thread. everyone has guilty pleasures, but whats something that may be lame or whatever but you dont care what people think, because the song is just that good?

for me:

The Longest Time, by Billy Joel.

Any Sportfreunde Stiller song. "Spitze" is a good example.

They're actually a decent band, just really catchy pop-rock.

I don't think it's bad, but a lot of other people do:

I am a huge Pearl Jam nut. Pearl Jam albums are basically my barometer for how good an album is.

"Oh, man! I'm giving this album an MTV Unplugged! It just isn't as interesting as you would expect"

Metal.  I catch so much crap for liking metal it's not funny.  Apparently when you become a jazz major, you're supposed to conform your musical tastes and stop listening to anything with a double bass pedal.

one of my favourite songs from the last few years was the utterly pathetic 'anthems for a seventeen year old girl' from the second broken social scene album.

i could never put it as well as that.

Uh, I'm so pathetic that is my favouriite BSS song.

My biggest "music proud pleasure" is prbably ABBA. They are just fucking great songs with brilliant craftsmanship and writing dealing with good topics with great emotion (but not emo).

Is there any chance of you changing your avatar, please? I can't even watch that episode of Family Guy because of that scene. It makes me feel sick every time I see it.

Video game music.....surprisingly addictive.  I have the theme from level one of TMNT 2 for NES on my MP3 player.  the level where you're in april's appartment building and it's on fire.  oh man, it could have been a wicked hardcore song if it wasnt, you know, midi.

Or the theme from battletoads?  oh man I loved that game.  midi guitar solo.

and who could forget anythign from final fantasy VII.

Same here. Last year some the music majors would'nt even talk to me about music because they were sure I only listened to metal. And then I started talking about a live Charlie Haden album I've got and they were all like "you.. listen to jazz..?" *head assplodes*.
I still get some crap about it, but mostly its just us joking around.

If I ever get good at playing guitar, I'm going to learn how to play those and record them just so they're not midi. No, seriously. I have like twelve of those themes. They are awesome.

Shakira - Whenever Whereever, Ojos Asi and Obtener Un Si
The first has really funny lyrics if you ask me. The second is all 1001 night mystique and the last one is lazy bossanova. All decent songs.

Gloria Estefan - Mi Tierra
So latin it hurts, you cannot resist it!

Armand Van Helden - You Don't Even Know Me
A teenagey "Nobody understands me!" house song and it kicks ass.

Addis Black Widow - Wait in Summer
Okay I am willing to admit that this song has absolutely no merit beyond being insanely catchy. These swedes look like futuristic ravers and can't sing, rap or anything really and that must be why I love them so!

The chorus goes:
still I
wait in summer
wait in winter
wait in spring
and even fall
it might be so
I know

Genius!

All Girl Summer Fun Band - Jason Lee
Admittedly they are not musically virtuoses, however they are girly, summery and fun!

and many more...

Except for their new album, which is terrible.

I have a cheezy version of 'Softly As The Morning Sunrise', done by bass, drums, guitar and Harmonica, with the harmonica taking the lead line. It has some fantastic soloing, and I play it for whoever comes to my house. But no one looks beyond the surface to see how great it actually is! What a shame.

And whoever called 'Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl" crap...are you kidding me? That's my favorite song on that album! It sets the mood it wants to absolutley perfectly.

Almost any band is considered crap by a considerable number of people.  That being said, here are my proud thingies:

Belle and Sebastian- There's nothing wrong with happy, poppy music.
Bloc Party- It especially irks me when people call them "generic britpop"
Franz Ferdinand- See #1 and #2.
Bright Eyes
Incubus
Early Green Day
mc chris
AC/DC
