Someone tell me some modern bands I'd like.
FeralCats:
I hope this isn't against the rules..
Going through my CD collection, I notice my favorite artists are mostly pre 90's. I'd like to listen to some bands that are actually still around.
Generally my favorite musicians are Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, The Residents, Mr. Bungle, King Crimson, A hell load of Modern Classical music,
lot's of Krautrock and jazz-fusion.
My favorite 'modern' album right now is The Avalanches 'Since I Left You', which was absolutley perfect. I love it to death-it's really excellent. I'm open to any genre. Thanks a lot!
onewheelwizzard:
Acid Mothers Temple
Benevento-Russo Duo
Desert Sessions (Josh Homme side project)
Hypnos 69
Stinking Lizaveta
Colour Haze
Any of these will be hit-or-miss for you, your tastes aren't really parallel to mine. But check 'em out.
KharBevNor:
Try Carnival in Coal, Crotchduster (absolutely obscene and insane but Mr. Bungle fans can normally dig 'em), Pagans Mind, Kayo Dot, Ayreon, Queensryche, Coils 'Horse Rotorvator' (Though Coil have gone, their stench, as they say, still remains), Nurse With Wound and Liquid Tension Experiment.

Scandanavian War Machine:
i notice you have sort of a taste for the strange so i'll try to recommend in that direction.
-Thrones
-Modey Lemon (first two albums, i havent listened to the third so cant say how good it is)
-Morphine (have moments of very intense strangeness and as an added bonus; the lead singer died on stage)
-The Mean Reds
-Clutch
-Modest Mouse (you cant go wrong with modest mouse)
-The White Stripes (maybe, maybe not but i've only met a handful of people who didnt at least like them a little.)
-Les Claypool:
=Primus
=Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains
=Les Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade
=Buckethead
-The Reverend Horton Heat
I dunno. that was a pretty diverse group of styles but they are all pretty modern bands that i enjoy alot so hopefully you can find at least something in there you like.

I totally concur with all of these, but add a corollary that pretty much all Queensryche's albums after Promised Land are pretty terrible.
