Apparently this is a thing now. i'm just sorta stumbling across it, by way of a couple of bands. the first is called Witch. they have on album out (avail on itunes). reminds me a lot of black sabbath, except better.
other band is called "The Sword". they've got an album called Age of Sorrows. fantasy themed, ridonculously epic guitar work.

sort of thing i imagine dora listening to.

anyway, curious if anyone knows these bands, has recommendations for other stuff in this vein.

I don't know if it's what you want but whenever someone mentions epic and fantasy themed I want to recommend Kamelot. Because Kamelot is amazing.

Whenever someone mentions Kamelot i think of this movie.

They are a great band, but get -50 points for the name.

Heritage metal just made me think of the Eiffel tower.

Heritage metal makes me think bands like Forefather, Ancient Rites, Bathory, Folkearth and Waylander.

Ie, pretty much my favourite metal bands.

I mean, as in with a name like 'heritage metal' (never heard of it btw) I would imagine, like, tales of times gone and nostalgia, and a whiff of national romance, and, most importantly, Vikings.

I mean, if I was to think of one song to sum up this genre I'd never heard of, it would be Ancient Rites - (Ode to Ancient) Europa
