its hard to seperate suggestions from people that actually have similar interests as me and the ones who dont. Please dont suggest music if you dont have similar interests as the stuff I put in bold. Thanks for your input.
(for instance getting suggestions from a guy that loves metal just doesnt seem that helpful)

As for me, I strongly reccomend people buying the new loose fur cd or jim guthrie's first two albums.

I havent found anything that has really stuck out as very good from this thread yet. However I have heard good things about Italian prog and the coctails(even though I havent heard them yet). I did test lots of you guys suggestions. Some of it is good (voxtrot) a lot is just alright, and some stuff I just dont like at all (you wouldnt believe me when I say I dont like NMH, nick cave, or joy division because so many people like them).
In the meantime, please keep posting suggestions, thanks.

Considering Khar totally didn't recommend any metal, there's no reason for you to say that people must have similar intrests.  Really, Khar gave you quite the amazing selection of artists, well worth checking out.  Well, the ones I've heard anyway, I'm still having difficulty tracking down any Current 93 (even online, I need to get BitTorrent working...), and I haven't heard anything by the next two he recommended either.

Neutral Milk Hotel, Joy Division, and Vatashi Bunyan are great though, and very much not metal.

Tan-Hauser Gate are a semi-local act which sound rather like a sort of mellower British Sea Power and Backworld are a folk/neo-folk duo which sound very much like latter day C93 (right down to the christian mysticism) but with a more indie vibe in the vocals and production and less electronics.

Trust me, my dear sir, I know the kind of thing you're after. I went so far as to check last.fm recommendations for the bands you listed that I didn't know, to see if they matched up with what I was thinking of suggesting. Lo and behold, I found my recs, or similiar groups I consider inferior, somewhere on the similiar artists lists for pretty much all of them.

Current 93, I would contend, should just be something people like who are into music in general, at least the later stuff. I suppose they haven't gained much hipster currency because of their generally either insanely cryptic or awesomely gothtastic lyrics and slightly melodramatic intensity. I've got to say though, if you can listen to the entire 'Cats Drunk on Copper' album, which they recorded live in a church, and not feel moved at any single point, then you are probably an evil person.

Ok, I think my problem is with vocals...its so important to me... and everyone has different taste in vocals wheteher they like it or not. I mean, the main reason I hate Neutral Milk Hotel and Joy Division is the vocals.... you might disagree with me but I cant help the matter.... their vocals just seem awful and maybe it has to do with my own voice I dont know. So I guess i want suggestions that have vocals similar to those I mentioned in bold... if you cant  find any we can bump this thread, its ok.

If you don't like those two, scratch Current 93 from my suggestions. Try the others though, I think they may be more in your line. You seem rather picky though.

Yeah, while David Tibet's voice certainly FITS the music (and it certainly does), it's not a wonderfully trained voice.

For some pretty bitchin prog, check out Atomic Rooster. It sounds ridiculous but they're really awesome and Death Walks Behind You is one of my favorite prog songs ever.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.
