Also the fact that I'm pretty sure three of them are owned by different companies that wouldn't give Nintendo the characters for use (Mallow and Geno by Squaresoft and K.Rool by Rare who work for Microsoft now). I call shennanigans.

yeah, good point. Though i thought I'd just throw that out there :) Actually my friend has a connection with some guy he knows from Japan who has the Japan version of the game. Though I do tend to be gullible so I wouldn't doubt the fact that he's pulling my leg. i still think it would be cool if Geno and Mallow joined the fray though.

However, I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Geno, since Super Mario RPG is heading for the Virtual Console. I would be really, really excited, though.

I really don't know who owns the characters created for Super Mario RPG. I mean, it was published by Nintendo. Besides which, Square isn't really doing anything with those characters, so I'm sure Nintendo could pick the rights up for cheap if they really wanted to.
But yeah, some of the additions to that list caused me to raise some eyebrows. As much as I love the Fire Emblem series, they wouldn't put that many characters in Brawl. Also every major character in Earthbound? Toad, considering he's already used as one of Peach's special moves?
It would be pretty rad if some guys from Punch-Out showed up though.
