Smash Brothers Brawl

I thought the purple Pikmin was the strongest....could be wrong though.

But yea, Ike is devastating. I love fucking up my opponents  with his Up-B when they think I'm done for on the edge of the course, hehe.

caseyyano:
Is it just me? Or is the game a lot more shallow than Smash Bros Melee

The attacks are fine- but the recovery is so easy that edge guarding is pointless
Air dodges only go left and right so you can't dodge-land-attack if they try to hit you
I didn't like wave dashing so I'm not going to talk about that
You can grab edges facing the other way... which makes the cape move of Mario a lot less threatening
There's more freedom in the air after recovery moves
Thrown items are easier to grab (so easy that I get some on accident)
The Parrying Shield is easier

My friend who was terrible at melee is almost on par with me for Brawl.
All this watering down of deep gameplay may be due to the online play though- No one wants to play a very good player if you're new

I dunno... maybe the little quirks and perks will sprout up as time progresses.
I've already played about 25 hours of Brawl though.... all chars and most levels I believe.

For those who are doing the challenges... save all your hammers. Seriously. I think Clearing "Boss Battles" on Intense is the hardest one. Since there are no continues on that one.

The online play is very very laggy so far... I keep playing as jigglypuff- it must be really hard to dodge the rolling in the lag =).

If anyone has any advice on finishing moves for Sonic please let me know because I keep racking the enemy to at least 150% before finishing them (while Ike can finish people off at around 60%) Perhaps he (Sonic) would be ideal as a team battle character- since he can literally be anywhere on the screen with his speed.

A lot of the characters seem to have ups and downs for certain levels.

Meta Knight is bad on flat levels as his aerials are amazing
Pit is good on flat levels because he reflects and his long ranges moves are basically straight
Lucario is good on bigger stages because he stays alive longer and staying alive means getting stronger and stronger

King Dedede is so bad I don't know what to say. I like aerial battles though so if I hate him this much he must be a ground fighter.

The final smashes are almost balanced. Jigglypuff is useless on most of the stages. Donkey Kong you have to hit A or whatever with the BEAT for it to be useful. Pikachu's is a lot weaker compared to Sonics- which is a bummer.

There is just so much to say about Snake I don't know where to start... At first it seems like all his moves will leave him an open target but after a bit of experimenting I've learned a lot. Charing the Up Smash attack will launch the rocket higher. The remote mines are easier to set while jumping and you can even put them on enemies. The rocket launcher can be stopped using the shield button- which then it plummets straight down. You can cook his grenades. You can also drop his grenade using the shield button. Then you can pick it up and throw it- or you can just leave it there. His forward A in the air hits the enemy straight down- that is neat.

Narr: You can start off as Zero Suit Samus by holding the R or Z (for wiimotes) during the character select. Just hold the button and press Start or +. You don't need to keep holding the button during stage select.

Apparently you can slip and fall by random chance when you start running. More often on icy grounds.

Young Link was awesome- he had a lot of control in the air and just seemed a lot more agile than link. His down A was a lot more accurate in Melee because of this.
Toon Link's down A is easily dodged as he goes straight down after a brief pause when you start the attack. But Toon Link's initial and second jump are very very high which makes him good at intercepting enemies in the air.

This is a fun game though. Yey.
The purple pikmin is the heaviest- therefore knockback.

Narr:
I am completely baffled that people actually liked Young Link compared to adult Link.  Link's strengths were that he was next to unbeatable on the ground because of his range, varied attacks, and versatile special attacks.  Sure, he weighs a metric fuckload and as such falls rather quickly, making him relatively easy to edge-camp, but Young Link didn't weigh anything.  He had better air control, but could be knocked off extremely easily with relatively low percentage.  Most of all, his fire arrows were ass compared to regular arrows and his up-B spin attack was god awful.  Then you factor in his laughable range (seriously, Jigglypuff's attacks went further), and he was completely worthless.  No one in my formerly large circle of Melee players liked Young Link compared to adult Link, partly because they all watched how much ass I kicked with adult Link and copied my good strategies.

At least Toon Link has an improved Up-smash (just one solid hit as compared to Link's fancy combo).  His sword pogo air attack is pretty nice as it's quick and works more or less like Yoshi, Kirby, or Bowser's Down+B move.  I still like regular Link's arrows a bit better as they are faster, but his has longer range for less time held down and reach quite a bit further.  It makes you actually use his bombs to hit guys beneath you, at any rate.  His air game is significantly changed and while he's not as heavy as Link, he can actually take a few hits before flying off.

I don't really get people saying Brawl was dummied down, either.  They took out everything that was being exploited in "competitive gaming" from Melee.  For my friends and I, it hasn't changed at all because anyone who wave-dashed or used any of the other fairly exploitable manuevers had to pay for the pizza and soda all on their own, and were banned from playing their best character all night.

Scarychips:
I'm sorry but what's wave-dashing ?

And yes the purple pikmin is the heaviest but the white one is poisonous, he does way more damage.

I'm happy that there aren't real "clones" in the game, yes Fox, Falco and Wolf have the same Final Smash but gameplay-wise, they are very different.

I can't seem to win with Ike when I'm against Ike, don't know why.

Diddy is weird, his Final Smash is great but his special moves are really odd.

Sonic Boom FTW, it's the only Sonic song which has vocals that I like, the other alternative-rock shits are shitty

Also, if you want to get the coin battle stuff over quickly, create a level that looks like this:

000000 000000
0                   0
0                   0
0wwwwwwww0
0000000000000
0000000000000

where 0 is a wall and w is spikes.

Just keep bouncing on the spikes and you'll gain coins like mad.
