From Reading the MacBook thread there seems to be a few complaints about the extra price of the black MacBook.  I am currious to see what people would like to see added to it to make it worth the extra $150.

A gig of ram would make me not grumble much (although I'd still be getting the white one*). A real graphics card is just too much to hope for; probably need a new motherboard, which just isn't practical.

*if I were getting one anytime soon.

yup I should have added that one.  oops.

I don't mind the black one saying I am cool I have the best MacBook around.  But I don't like it to say I got screwed by apple and loved it.  (not that I am going to get one)

As I type this I am in the Mac store in Bellvue WA. I am typing this on a black mac book pro. I have never felt joy like this that is so very far from me actually being able to own one. You don't understand. I am in love with this machine. I want one and I cannot yet afford one.

I think a graphic card, says a 128mb non-shared would be top, since at that price, there's 13inch laptop that come with such card.

the £200 difference is too big for just a simple colour, I cannot believed they just add an extra £200 just because it's bleedin black, unless it's a limited edition model which would've make a lots of sense.

remember, you Yanks had it easier with a simple $150 difference while the Brits has to make do (and the rest of the European who get even more expensive Mac) with $368.

A gig of ram is pretty much a good decision in these days and time.

Fuck that shit.  You want black, go buy a damn IBM. It'll be cheaper.

More RAM is a good step.

How is an IBM cheaper?
A $1499 ThinkPad T60 comes with:
14.1 inch screen
1.66 ghz core duo
512 MB of ram
80 GB hard drive
Combo Drive
XP Pro
Gigabit ethernet
Built in WIFI
Finger print reader
64MB ATI X1300 graphics card

A $1499 Macbook comes with
13.3 inch screen
2 ghz core duo
512 MB of ram
80 GB hard drive
Super Drive
Os X 10.4
Gigabit Ethernet
Bulit in WIFI
Bluetooth
Built in Webcam
Intel integrated graphics

I think the Macbook is very compeditive with the ThinkPad and depending on your needs it might even be better.  There are pros and cons to both.  Macs are actually priced pretty close to PC's these days.  Sure you can get a dirt cheap Dell or IBM but if you compair simalar specs the prices are simalar at least from what I have seen.

Matteh99, what was the resolution of the ThinkPad? the MacBook is 1280x800 currently.

also the graphic card in the ThinkPad are far superior, the Intel shared graphic card is better than the old 32mb PPC iBook, but still not as advanced as some laptop in the same price range.

I'm still getting a MacBook anyway, the 2Ghz white one, the G4 PowerBook I have is slower than a Citroen AX.

The resoution of the thinkpad is 1400x1050 which is alot higher than the Macbook's.

Neither the Macbook or the Thinkpad are significantly better than the other.  I would say that which one is better depends on your needs.

I would get a macbook over the thinkpad mainly because I can run OS X or windows or linux on the macbook but I am stuck with windows or linux on the thinkpad.

I accutally just got a 1.83 ghz Macbook Pro and it is a heck of a lot faster than my old iMac G5.

i did notice that my iMac 1.83GHz somehow render H.264 1080p movie from Apple.com MUCH better than the family's iMac G5 2.0GHz

bilmey them PPC are that bad.

yes, I will also get a MacBook, thought the resolution a tad low and want the IBM 1440x1050, the bonus is that if you do the math, the MacBook is actually cheaper because you can able to run both Windows XP and OS X legally.

well I decided to do a test on me HP laptop, got a 1.4 Centrino processor, it does the H.264 1080p movie smoothly, while in the 2GHz G5 it's lagged, that's pretty much tell you how bad it is that a 1.4GHz old Pentium M processor beaten it, even thought the FSB on the Pentium is lower.

extra $200 over the white ones?  It does have a larger hard drive (80GB vs. 60GB) and it's black...which is the new black.

I'd like to see more pre-installed in just about every computer. I still don't know why we haven't hit the point where 1GB is standard on all models yet.

Interesting. To me that would indicate one of two things: either h.264 is very integer-math heavy, which the G5 is terrible at and the Pentium-M is great at, or Apple's h.264 implementation is slow as hell.

an extra $200 doesn't jusified it, after I went to the American site, an 80GB upgrade from 60GB cost a mere $50 on the white 2Ghz.
