3d modeling/animation?

Heavy Duty AA Battery:
Does anybody here do 3d modeling/animation? I use Maya, and Hash Animation:Master.

Switchblade:
I do a little as part of my university course, though I'm yet to become more than passable at it. the program we use on the course is 3D Studio Max 7, which I really don't enjoy using at all....

moley:
Max is nifty, it just takes a little getting used to :P

I started out with Anim8or (www.anim8or.com) for a few years

moved to Blender (www.blender3d.org) about a year ago (ish)

and since February I have been using 3DS Max 8 at college for one of the courses I am doing and I am also doing a course at the AIE (Academy of Interactive Entertaiment) and they use 3DS Max 8 there too.

In my experience I have found that I have spent most of my time modelling and have spent little time doing much animation. To help get into animation I am now doing the two courses above. Also the AIE has lots of contacts within the Gaming industry and have sent many of their students off to work for companies such as Blizzard.

An example of something that has taken me about 2 1/2 hours to make so far (the post dated  05-23-2006)

If you intend to get a job in the 3D industry I would seuggest that you get yourself enrolled in a course or two, employees like to see that you have taken the time to be formally educated in the field.

I'm starting at ITT Tech next month for my BS in Digital Entertainment and Game Design.
I tried using Blender, but I couldn't get the hang of it.

moley:
I fell in love with Blender, I tried it once but didn't really like it, I came back to it a little while later and fell in love. The workflow is just so awesome, it's really smooth and I model much better with it.
