Super hero movies
« on: 26 May 2006, 19:08 »

There's been quite a few super hero movies in the last few years plus there are still quite a few more in the works/about to be released.
What are you looking forward to?
What would you like to see?

I'd like to see a Thor movie, a Watchmen movie, an Xmen movie with Sentinels(Age of Apocalypse even?), possibly an Ultimates movie based on the most recent comics and an Ironman movie (I <3 the Ultimates).

I'm looking forward to seeing X3 despite the bad wrap it's gotten. I'm also looking forward to Wolverine, Superman and Spiderman 3.

Discuss!

I'd like to see a Spirit movie. Or the Question. He's awesome. Nick Fury's also one of my favorites. I think he could have an American Bond-type franchise if handled right. Also I think a Captain America movie would rock.

My ultimate dream would be combining the various Marvel movies so far (Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Hulk, Daredevil) into one giant Secret Wars movie. It's never going to happen, but a man can dream can't he? A man can dream...

That's why I want to see an Ultimate movie, it'd combine all the awesome yet slightly maligned heroes into one movie. Thor, Hulk, Captain America, The Wasp, Giantman, Nick Fury, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Hawk Eye in one movie. AND they fight shape shifting reptiles from outer space!

EDIT:
Quote
In Ultimates #4, a discussion occurs where the characters talk about which actors should play them. The results are:

    * Nick Fury: Samuel L. Jackson
    * Captain America: Brad Pitt
    * Iron Man: Johnny Depp
    * Giant-Man: Matthew McConaughey
    * The Wasp: Lucy Liu (The Wasp scorned this suggestion, saying that Ms. Liu had only been suggested because she was the only Asian actress known to most of her teammates)
    * Dr. Bruce Banner: Steve Buscemi

EDIT V2.0:
Quote

On July 20, 2004, Marvel Entertainment and Lion's Gate Family Home Entertainment announced that they would be producing a 66-minute animated movie titled Ultimate Avengers, based on The Ultimates, which was released on DVD February 21, 2006. It does not include the member Hawkeye.

I should read Wikipedia more often.

EDIT 3.0:
Apparently the animated movie is rubbish.

The only thing I dislike really about the Ultimates is what they did to Nick Fury. Now, I'm not against black people or anything, but it reeks of "diversity" to me. They could have brought in Luke Cage or the Falcon or Cloak and Dagger or the Panther if they wanted to. The Ultimates version of Fury didn't even fight in WWII! Or smoke cigars even! That's messed up.

Did anyone read 1602? Now that was an alternate universe Fury for everybody.

Nothing good ever comes after that preface.

An Iron Man movie is apparently in the works for 2008.

The only superhero movie I'd like to see that will probably never get made is a Green Lantern film, involving the entire GL Corps.

They were gonna make a Watchmen movie.

For a while, it was gonna be directed by Darren Aronofsky and have Jude Law as Ozymandias and would be awesome, but that eventually turned into being directed by the Dawn of the Dead guy (not George Romaro, the new one) and will suck.

Terry Gilliam wants to do a twelve-hour miniseries for it though. And that would rock the goddamn casbah.

I'd like a DC movie containing a Robin that DOESN'T suck.  Seriously.  Despite what George Clooney and his Batnipples did to Robin's movie appearances, the character is not that big of a dickwit, and I'd like to see a movie translation of him that is just a *little* bit closer to what people expect.

I also agree with a Deadpool movie.  But I'm not sure about a Wolverine movie... I mean, the three X-Men movies basically *were* Wolverine movies...
One I tremble in fear of is a Megaman movie.  I've only heard vague rumours of it thus far, but realistically it's only a matter of time before someone unleashes it on us... they'll probably get Hayley Joel Osment to play Megaman or something.  And Tom Cruise to do Dr. Wily.  NO.

Also, The Flash.

Did Nick Fury have like a flying base? Because I remember that being the case, and that would be fucking awesome.

And Ghost Rider, man, if they screwed that up then they had to be trying to do so.

Yeah, it was basically a flying aircraft carrier-slash-battleship. Usually just hovered around one place, but could go anywhere in the U.S. when needed. It was indeed pretty awesome.

Ghost Rider looked horrible.  What are they playing at, having Nicolas Cage in it?  You never know...the director might be able to pull off something wonderous.

Oh wait...Eva Mendes is in it.

I really hope Ghost Rider doens't suck like I'm thinking it will.

Ghost RIder reminds me of Daredevil.. I predict they will be on the same level, quality and style-wise.  you've got a sorta big name actor inexplicably playing a superhero, a somewhat underappreciated hero at that so there's going to be a lot of emphasis placed on convinvcing the audience "YES. THIS GUY IS COOL" throughout the entire movie.  Is it the same director?

Terry Gilliam wants to do a twelve-hour miniseries for it though. And that would rock the goddamn casbah.

I think. I just came. In my pants. At the thought.

I'm hoping From Hell followed by V for Vendetta is indicating a general upward trend in quality of Alan Moore adaptations. Watchmen should be next, some dude already has the film rights I believe. A proper Watchmen film right now would do for the superhero movies of today what the original did for the superhero comics of yesterday, if handled right. If handled wrong, it would suck ass. Also, a watchmen comics probably as close as you'd ever get to a Question movie (Rorsach is heavily based off of him: Watchmen was originally going to use all the old Charlton characters that DC had bought.)

Gilliam can save his twelve hour miniseries to adapt The Ballad of Halo Jones. And Moore can write out to the original nine chapters he was going to do.

Oh shit, came again.

Gods I love Alan Moore. Halo Jones is still the best comic book heroine of all time. Indeed, speaking of the lass, when are the 2000AD movies coming? Judge Dredd deserves a real movie versus Judge Death, and I want fucking Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog (Plus Durham Red spin-off flick), Slaine, ABC Warriors and oh, I dunno, gimme a Dan Dare whilst you're at it.

But modernise him, and make him politically correct, so all the real fans cry.

I think an Iron Man movie would be awesome to the ... max or some hip shit.

Nick Fury : Been done as a TV movie.  It sucked.  Hasselhoff was Nick though. Look here.
Captain America: Been Done, sucked donkey dong.
Punisher: Hard core suckage.  Slightly better than refried poo.

Iron Man would be interesting only because of Tony Stark and the ability to blow shit up.  Seriously, Iron Man is a bad ass.

I didn't see this mentioned yet.  There is a Nick Fury movie currently in the works.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482631/

Man. It's too damn bad The Question is too obscure to get his own movie. His Justice League animated series incarnation was sweet as hell.

The Question:
Reaching back to Ancient Egypt, there's been a single cabal of powerful individuals directing the course of human history. But the common man prefers to believe they don't exist, which aids their success.
Supergirl: Global warming? Military upheavals in the third world? Actors elected to public office?
Green Arrow: The spread of coffee bars? Germs outpacing antibiotics? And boy bands? Come on! Who would gain from all this?
The Question: Who indeed?

Having just looked at Jack Kirby's page on IMDB I found the following;
Quote

# Captain America (2009) (announced) (characters)
# Untitled Nick Fury Project (2008) (announced) (character)
# Thor (2009) (pre-production) (characters)
# The Incredible Hulk (2008) (pre-production) (characters)
# Iron Man (2008) (pre-production) (characters)
# Fantastic Four 2 (2007) (pre-production) (Marvel comic book)

Anyone slightly excited?

Oh, god, I just made the mistake of watching Fantastic Four.
Guys, I'm so sorry.  I should have taken your advice, really.  I should have paid attention and known in advance that my life would be better without seeing this film.
It's my own fault.  I accept that.

The only good thing from the movie wasn't even IN the movie; it was a reaction from us people watching it.
