Drum 'n' Bass anyone?
« on: 07 Jun 2006, 14:16 »

Heard mention of breaks and i vaguely remember someone asking about drum 'n' bass aaaaaages ago but is anyone else on here into this stuff?
At the moment i'm nodding my head to a 2 CD fabio and grooverider mix, fabio playing smooth liquid drum 'n' bass and grooverider mixing heavier tunes based more around catchy basslines...oooh hive and keaton - bring it on just got mixed in, i love this track....anywho i'm not much into clubbing but i love mixing tunes in my room as its often the only way of experiencing this music outside of a club, or at least its the only way of accessing the heavier stuff where i am. Alot of cheesy jump-up in manchester and not enough heavy tech drum 'n' bass. Not that i dislike cheesy jump-up, its just the crowds tend to be a bit intimidating round here, u get alot of violence in the clubs from what i'm told.

Anywho, if anyone else likes it and wants to discuss they're favorite producers and DJ's, here are mine....

DJ's
Fabio, Grooverider, Andy C, Calyx, Teebee

Producers
Spor, Noisia, DJ Hazard, Potential Bad Boy, Chase & Status, Evol Intent, Neurotix, DJ Craze, Black Sun Empire, Dj Ink, Audio Unit, Final Reckoning, Phace, Prolix, Nocturnal, Konflict, Keaton and Hive, Dillinja, Ram Trilogy, Ed Rush & Optical, J Majik & Wickaman, Friction, Sunchase

Tunes
Spor - Ignition, The Eyes Have It, Dreadnought
Noisia - Concussion, Block Control, Excorcism, Subdue
Chase & Status - Trapdoor, Ten Tonne
Dj Ink - Don Darko
Phace - Lost
Black Sun Empire - Mindset
Konflict - Messiah, Messiah (Noisia Remix)
Dillinja - Angels Fell
J Majik & Wickaman - It's Time
Ed Rush & Optical - Glass Eye, Bacteria, Gas Mask, Capsule, The Medicine

Oh and for all i can't stand a single tune they've released since 'The Vault', Pendulum do a kickass dancefloor remix of Bacteria and 'pack of wolves' by nightbreed, the original version of Bacteria still stands on it's own rights but they took pack of wolves from being an uncomfortably poor cross between punky edged metal and drum 'n' bass to something that actually encompasses the spirit of both genres without coming across as a shitty version of either.

I'd be really happy if this thread was closed right here.  Not because I don't think this should be talked about, but just because it's the greatest exchange ever.

I'm a far better drummer than I am Bassist, but I suppose I could strum the odd string as well as pound some skin.

well its nice to know the indie kids are as mature, open minded and respectful of diverse musical taste as they always were. That evol intent tune is hilariously over the top and i've got a soft spot for it, la creme, but i thought it got old quickly. You heard the rest of that E.P?

"you know who lucifer is?"
"no"
"well your about to meet him motherfucker"
*sound of gun cocking and then 'firing' the first snare drum of the song*

Evol Intent - Street Knowledge, the cheesiest and weirdest tune in my collection.

I'm sort of new but I felt compelled to speak up here.  I have become quite a fan of this stuff in the past year.  I'm not in the know enough to realize who is a DJ, who's a producer, and who's actually making the music but I know what I like based on the track information.

I generally just listen to it through BassDrive radio in iTunes or jungletrain.net

I've tried showing it to some friends but pretty much everyone takes it as far too busy and obnoxious, which I'm not saying some of it isn't!

I picked up that Dieselboy DungeonMaster's Guide which I really like and imported Calyx's cd, really cool as well.  I have to say most voice samples and any singing/rapping/whatever in general is kinda annoying and cheesey, the instrumental pieces tend to be my favorites.  I've been meaning to check out that Hive & Keaton release but havn't had the time.  I recall a lot of good stuff from Dillinja and Noisia on the radios, but I don't own any tracks.

Dunno if I've contributed anything to this... uhm... If you have any recomendations of DnB artists that stick out especially Tetsuo, let me know.  I pretty much enjoy the spectrum from the crazy dark stuff to the light, almost trancey junk.

Breakage, Amit, Selini, and all that silly drumfunk nonsense.

Also, early Jungle. Remarc, Renegade, Omni Trio, blah blah blah.

It's fun to dance to, but boring to DJ.

uh. Amen break.
