"Freya" by The Sword

Finally cracked after playing it again tonight on Guitar Hero 2, and decided I had to hear the original. Still deciding if it's worth downloading an album... Opinions/Suggestions anybody?

The Sword smell a bit like an ironic metal cash-in to me, but I haven't heard enough of their music to be sure. That stuff can either be blatantly awesome (3 Inches of Blood) or not (Goblin Cock).

Currently listening to:

Forefather - Ours is the Kingdom

"Our hearts are not in heaven,
Nor eastern desert sands,
With eyes closed to your saviour,
Our fate is in our hands!"

The album is alright. It's nothing special, but I enjoy most of it. Freya is clearly the best song, though.

Rachel's - Arterial

Rachel's is pretty interesting.  It's refreshing to have a post-rock band with sub-ten minute songs.

3 Inches Of Blood is indeed blatantly awesome. Enemies of metal... your death is our reward!! Triumphant victory as you bring our steel to life!

Sol Invictus - Lex Talionis - Lex Talionis.

I downloaded this because you repeatedly made worshipful reference to them, Khar. All I can say is: thank you so goddamned much for letting me know about this band, and about neofolk as a whole.

Next stops on the download express: Jonah's Ark and Folkemon by Skyclad.

Envy - "Your Shoes and the World To Come"

It's not very often that you can use the word 'pretty' to accurately describe a hardcore-type song.  This would be one of those times.

Gordian Knot - Muttersprache

I know I've been talking about this band a lot but man. This is everything prog rock should be. Technical prowess, freeform song structure, multilayered sound, varied influences... it's just really really good. If I can ever learn to play guitar as well as Steve Hackett and Jason Gobel do on this song, I will be a happy man.

The Goslings-Overnight
-Their essentially a shoegazeing band who play through a drone-metal type amp setup. Makes a good way to annoy everyone in the house if you want something a bit more uplifting than a dirge of death.

Yeah, sometimes I get things right :) Might have another neo-folk thread in a bit, seems we have more listeners and I know my tastes have got more broad.

Probably one of the songs that invented the epic song structure of modern post-rock.  This song is amazing.

Ulver - Soelen Gaaer Bag Aase Ned (The Sun Goes Down Betwixt The Hills)

Damn Garm has an amazing voice.

Bergtatt is an absolutely amazing album, everything on it just works. The Riffing the drumming, the production, it's all just there and it works, I don't know how to describe it, don't think I can. Hugely reccomended.

Man, the dynamics!

Spiderland Conspiracy or not, the album (and the dynamics, lol) are great.

Tweez is really really good also.  I've been hooked on it for the last few days.  Completely different album though, with a unique style and flavor.

Medications - Occupied

This album (Your Favorite People All In One Place) is really meh.  Which kind of pisses me off, because the free tracks they have on their website are pretty good, but not indicative of the full album.  The last few songs are pretty good though.

Tomorrow I am going to a couple of record stores, so I will report the music I purchase and what I'm listening to.

"GET OFF MY SCROUT" - Tony Danza Strapon Extravaganza (my friend's band)

Take some sped-up acoustic guitar loops with an electric riff looped as the main riff and put some sick funk drumminz on there and you have a winner.
