I'm honestly curious, how the heck did it take you "ages" to find a copy of Loveless?  Do you live in Antarctica?

I don't really know why it was so hard to get hold of a copy. HMV seem to be pretty hopeless when it comes to anything that's not current chart music. And no, actually I'm in England.

And so i'm on topic, I'm listening to:

Talk Talk - Desire.

Arcturus- Sideshow Symphonies.

Loving this album very much. Awesome spacey symphonic black metal. Kind of. Anyway it's really good, with some parts that are real cheesy but lots of good stuff. I would recommend!

Sideshow Symphonies is probably their weakest album. I'm assuming that this is your first taste of Arcturus? Check out The Sham Mirrors. For one thing it has Garm singing on it.

Arcturus are comming to Aus in March, only reason I haven't bought ticket was because I didn't get into Sideshow Symphonies at all... La Masquerade Infernale is my fav Arcturus cd...

Caspian if you're interested in Spacey BM I sugest checking out the following albums

Samael - Passage \ Eternal
Limbonic Art - Moon in the Scorpio\ In Abhorrence Dementia
Odium - The Sad Realm of the Stars
Covenant - Nexus Polaris
Enslaved - Isa (Viking metal in space!!!)

I'm currently playing:
Samael - Infra Galaxia

Manic Street Preachers - Take the Skinheads Bowling

I quite like the original of this, and I am a complete Manics fanboy. The cover definitely does justice to the original, which is good to see (or should that be hear?)
So yeah, I approve.

I'd add a Borknagar album to that list. I've only heard Empiricism and a few tracks off of Origin, but Empiricism suits the criteria pretty damn well.

Borknagar are ok I'm digging Origin a fair bit,  Archaic Course was ok... I dunno though nothing Borknagar has done seems really essential to me, their just one of those bands I have a lot of trouble getting fully into.

I'm listening to Greg Graffin from Bad Religion's solo album "Cold as the Clay"

It's basically a lot of folk and banjo and what Dr Greg himself calls "old-time" music. I always figured his vocal style was very suited to folk, he almost has a Celtic kind of lilt to his delivery.

Also, his backing band is 3/4 of the Weakerthans... Will I enjoy the Weakerthans if I love this?

"Please Bypass This Heart" - Jimmy Buffett

How he managed to do this song in an entirely serious manner is beyond me. Now it's

"Dance, Dance, Dance" - The Beach Boys

Always a good band for singing along to, especially in my crappy falsetto. And in the time it took to write that (I'm lazy today) it has switched to

"Little Brown Jug" - Glenn Miller and His Orchestra

Yay for '40s song titles that make references to alcohol use.

I should buy a Nile album really, is there an album a bit less corpulent than In Their Darkened Shrines? Great album but also quite long.

Ulver - Nattens Madrigal

I think it is amazing how they manage to make it relatively accessible despite the harshness.
There is some catchy guitarwork if you look pass the white sheet of noise.

Dude, if you think you're the only person on these forums who listens to Queensryche, you are sadly (gladly?) mistaken.

I'm currently listening to an instrumental version of a national anthem I am composing for a prospective British Republic. It is more exciting than normal national anthems. It has a steel drum and a trance break in the middle.

Pure Holocaust is my absolute favorite Immortal album, I'd rate it as one of the 10 best BM albums ever made. Little known fact is it's actually Abbath, not Grim playing the drums...

Darkthrone - Sempiternal Sepulchrality

DM Darkthone, Fenriz comes up with some great lyrics from time to time. The imagery this song conjures up is pretty powerful.

Oh, once again, I kneel before this altar
Out in the moist chilly forest I proclaim
The Autumn leaves that fell
And those still attached to the trees
The Breeze that blew my hair
The one I've known through all these years...
The songs I never forgot -
A past that is now Lost....

"Conqueror" is quite good - not as pretty as the Silver EP, but still excellent of its own right - but ight now my Album of the Year is very solidly looking to be the upcoming "Blessed Are The Bonds" by the Pax Cecilia.  The full album isn't out just yet, but you can check out two of the songs; "The Progress" and "The Tragedy" are available on Myspace.  I'd suggest to everyone here that you at least give them a listen and see what you think.

It is not my cup of tea. "The Tragedy" meanders while "The Progress" is too metalcoreisque for my taste. The vocals bug me, they have this generic feel. For this sort of thing I prefer Kayo Dot. That is my initial impression anyway.

Amon Tobin - The Foley Room

It is a tough nut to crack. I think my verdict is veering on the following: It has some good songs but it is also uneven because he frequently neglects the compositions in his hunt for strange noises. But when everything comes together, he is quite something.

For the hundred millionth time I'm listening to a mix called ?Blogaritmos! 11: ?Another Crunk Genealogy?, part of the absolutely mindblowing Blogariddims podcast.  I basically never come across DJ mixes anywhere near as adventurous and informed as this, especially not ones that sound good.

One that might be more to the taste of bods here is this monster mix of avant garde, industrial, Kraut rock, jazz and ambient action.  Often the blends happen over the course of several minutes, so tracks I knew still have all these gorgeous surprises spring up when I least expect them.

FUCK.  SO EXCITED.

This is some of the best power metal I've heard, pretty unknown band too, lyrics remind me a lot of the Slayer song "Jesus Saves", all bout the influence of money on religon.

Hopesfall - The Satellite Years.  This is one of the few albums that fall under the metalcore umbrella that I can use the adjective "beautiful" to describe.  Granted, they dropped a ferocious study in utter mediocrity with "A-Types" a few years later, but for a while, this band was gold.
