Underworld - Born Slippy

My girlfriend was singing this in her car on the weekend, now it's stuck in my head.

I'm listening to some Spoon right now. I just got tickets for a show of their's in April so I figured I'd give some of thier stuff a spin since it's been a while. Spoon is one of the best indie popish/whateverthehellgenretheyare out thier in my opinion. Daniel's has an awesome voice and good lyrics and genuinely good instrumentals (I love spurts of distortion and such and Gimme Fiction especially has lots of that) and...well yeah. Long story short I like 'em a lot.

"Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly", the album, "The Chronicals of a Bohemian Teenager"...
So far, it's actually made me a little depressed...but a good depressed, I guess.
I think it goes on my list of music to listen to when I'm...sad, I guess.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Virus

One of my favourite songs covered by one of my favourite bands. It's got just as much attitude as the original version, but it's still slightly different. Awesome.

Yeah, you've got to go over metal with really coarse paper to get a good noise out of a sander. Unless it's one of those massive bench ones and you can get a bit of plastic or something to wobble about the horizontal just above it and catch on the belt, spring back up and drop down and catch again.

That was a memory from year 10 plastics, I totally didn't realise back then that noise was one of those things you could be into.

Currently I'm listening to a preview of an upcoming release by a band (guy?) called drawing voices. That link goes to the preview, that's really all I know about the band/album. So far it seems like interesting yet accessible noise that doesn't do too much (hardly any actually) of that one loud texture for a short while, abrupt cut to another, suddenly into another etc. If I run into this on a shelf somewhere it's a very likely impulse buy.

Destroyer 666 - Black City,  Black Fire

When I see all that's been
Forgiveness was my greatest sin
So I took a knife to my pity
To the people in black city

Truth chooses the strangest words
Not the tongue of the common herd
So take a blade let it bleed
Fuck the people in black city!

I was a brazen prince and cold
Now a king on an oaken throne
These dark ages mean nothing to me
For I have forsaken black city

Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees

So never bow to any gods
Tame wolves are nothing but dogs
So take a blade let it bleed
To the people in black city

These guys need to hurry up and put out a new album

One hell of a shrill, noisy and totally fucked guitar solo at the end.
Under the Sign is definitely one of those albums where a lousy production actually adds to the atmosphere and in turn the music.

Samael - Moongate

It's amazing how good things can be when it goes, when it flows
With fluidity of energy in constant availability
All that glitters all that matters beyond rivalries
Amplified universality, transcending dualities
Body chemistry, linked spiritually
Right in time every time
Synchronized all along

I have no idea what the effect Vorph is using on he's voice but it sounds awesome. Reign of Light is a pretty amazing album.

Some track by Macromantics and the Ground Components, called Coming in From All Angles or something similar. One of the few tracks I've heard on the radio recently and just gone "damn, I wish this thing had a repeat button." It's up beat, dancable, has harmonies (ooh, oooohooohooohaah, aaahaahaah aaaaaah), has a really cool baseline and before now I honestly don't think I've heard anything similar.

Click listen on the first result on this page. Especially if you haven't heard Macromantics' awesome rapping before.

Melechesh - Assyrian Spirit

I've been doing some thinking and I've come to the conclusion that "As Jerusalem Burns...Al?Intisar" is the best Melechesh album don't get me wrong I love their others albums (especially Sphynx and Djinn) but there's just something off about them, I think it's the production the sound is almost too polished for the music, As Jerusalem Burns gets it right, it's raw, but it's the good sort of raw and the riffs good god theres some great riffs on this album.

Dream Theatre - Six Degree's of Inner Turbulence  - VIII. LOSING TIME/GRAND FINALE

She dresses in black everyday
She keeps her hair simple and plain
She never wears makeup
But no one would care if she did anyway

She doesn't recall yesterday
Faces seem twisted and strange
But she always wakes up
Only to find she'd been miles away

I really like those lyrics for some reason.

TAPPY; Harry Gregson-Williams - Metal Gear Solid Main Theme

This MUST be one of the best main themes ever made, all three versions of them... first TAPPY's syntheized version, which is a classic. Then this, the syntheized version with an "orchestra" which is a really great combination, and then the third one with only orchestra with The Rock:esque sound...
Mmmmm, i like.

hmm I like quite a lot of the second disc actually, this was the first DT album I bought so that may have something to do with it but I don't think it's that bad,

Blind Faith is a crackin' great song too. And the second half of the album definitely has its moments.

Lush - Undertow

This CD is like a slightly more coherent/less trippy version of Cocteau Twins. I love it.

SunnO))) & Boris - Altar

Each time I play this it's at a slightly higher volume. Each increase in volume uncovers another layer of omg.

[edit] I'm not so sure about the end of track 5 though. I'm fine with sudden and complete stops in principle, but that was so not the place for it.

Hmm post 90's Megadeth, It's pretty good if I stop reminding myself this was the band who put out a fuckload of excellent albums in the 80's.  Still shits over the last 4 Metallica albums though.

My cure-all for over-hype is to just not listen to the hype. Oh, unless of course I don't like the band at all, then I use the hype as an excuse to bitch and whine to anyone dumb enough to listen.

I'm listening to Lamb of God- As the Palaces Burn.

This was produced by Devin Townsend? Damn Devy, dropped the ball here. It sounds positively amateurish.
