Agalloch - Not Unlike Waves

Stil undecided about Agalloch, there good but not as good as the hype...
I was listening to Agalloch the other night. I really don't mind them at all, their music can be excellent in small doses. I find it to be a bit same-ish, but it's still awesome. I don't normally listen to much metal though, so I can't really comment.

Yeah I bought Pale Folklore a few years ago, thought hmm yeah this is ok, kind of forgot about the band for a few years, then last year when Ashes Against the Grain got so much positive press I thought, must be time to check these guys out again, its not a bad album, its just I thought it would be better then it is, hard to describe but I'm just dissapointed

Therion - Asg?rd (Live)

holy sweep picking, amazing...

check ou the solo at the end, you won't be dissapointed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYGh0ZGXa-Q

Dub it up! I really love Super Ape. It is a fucked up album in many ways but it is also pure undiluted genius.

Summoning - Elfstone

All that is gold does not glitter
All that is long does not last
All that is old does not wither
Not all that is over is past

Summoning are amazing, the music truly does justice to the shear epicness (is that a word) of Tolkien's writings

Various songs by C.R. Avery.  I've been working my way through all the songs he has up on his website (www.cravery.com), and I must say, it's marvellous stuff.

Some indie band, maybe you should check them out, they're pretty OK.

Celtic Frost - One in Their Pride (Porthole Mix)

Tom Warrior messing around with drum loops and samples.  Must have been pretty cutting edge back in '87, sounds pretty dated now all the samples are from various Apollo Mission speaches.

Weird stuff but it fits in with the Flow of Into the Pandemonium.

An old enough album but I love it. Everytime I listen to it it puts me in a great mood. It's a fantastic album for when the sun is shining. Favourite track has to be July, always makes me smile!

Finntroll - Nedg?ng

I just got Ur Jordens Djup yesterday and it's bloody good! they have become heavier without losing any of the catchiness.
The intro, Gryning, sounds like something off the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack!

I flinch and smile at the same time everytime I see Finntroll mentioned. I mean, a finnish band singing in swedish? Wikipedia has the explanation why though.
"Finntroll's lyrics are in Swedish, because Swedish just sounds "damn trollish", according to the band's first vocalist, Katla (whose native tongue is Swedish)"
=P, yea right...

Don't know about Swedish sounding trollish, but we do have Swedish as our second official language. Meh... Finntroll sounds cool and that's what counts.

Arcturus- Nightmare Heaven.

Terrible song name, awesome song. Garm does some truly awe inspiring vocals here, and the trip-hoppy break in the middle is great. The big metal riffs are pretty good too, of course..

They played that song last night actually, was pretty sweet.

I dunno it seemed to take about 3 or 4 songs for ICS Vortex to get he's voice warmed up after that it was sweet.

My highlight was when they played "Master of Disguise"

and Hellhammer fuck he's an amazing drummer to watch, he just makes it look so fucking easy. Looked like he was playing blast beats in he's sleep.

Bohren & Der Club Of Gore - Black City Skyline

This band are pure genius. Mix 1 part dark ambient and 2 parts smooth jazz, shake and serve. Every album sounds like the perfect soundtrack to the best film noir ever.

You saw Arcturus? I'm real jealous. They came to Australia recently but didn't come to Perth, and it's not really worth driving 1000 or however many kms to Adelaide..

Now: Crippled Healing by the Angelic Process. I think I should keep plugging this band till everyone gets sick of the plugging and downloads the album. IT IS REALLY GOOD.

Caspian I posted earlier about it acutally

Astriaal played a whole lot of songs off their upcomming album, sounded pretty good.

Anathema - Release,

My friends tells me this song sounds a lot like Radiohead, which makes me think maybe I should be listening to them.

The two latest Anathema albums are quite Radiohead-y in places. Not that I'm saying if you like one you'll like the other for sure, but I love both and the influence is there to be heard from time to time. That's also probably my favourite Anathema song of all time... starts off simple then builds up and up in a crescendo of awesome, and the vocals are second-to-none.

Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto #3. Classic Rach.

Listening to Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. This is a great album, the singing is probably the thing that stands out the most. I really like this band, I wish they had put out more than two albums and some crappy tapes.  :-(

Insane triggered drums on this one, I should go and download the album.

Great song! almost Einsturzende Neubauten'ish at the end.

Borbetomagus - Barbed Wire Maggots

It is not as punishing as I thought it would be, which may or may not have something to do with me setting it to a low volume.
The sax work reminds me of John Zorn's playing in Naked City, although not as frantic and even more atonal.
The guitar is mostly confined to making (more) weird noises in the background. Basically it is noise with a tinge of jazz.

Limbonic Art - The Ultimate Death Worship

I was curious as to where the samples  that they use in this track came from, I thought it was from a movie and I was trying to find it's title.

so I googled "His fists are still clenched, but there is no movement from the condemned."  which is the phrase that's sampled over and over right at the end. And well:

http://www.keepmedia.com/pubs/Newsweek/2001/05/14/314684?extID=10037&oliID=229

Makes the track all that much more creepy knowing that.

Slayer - Hallowed Point

Not too sure about the song, in listening to Seasons in the Abyss I kind of fade out after around Dead Skin Mask. I mean, it's good. I just don't listen as hard. I should probably change albums, as this has played something like 7 times today and I haven't bothered to change it.

I did just change it to Blood Red, so I guess that's a no.

Kayo Dot-Choirs of the Eye. Especially enjoying 'A Pitcher of Summer.'

The whole album is an amazing mix of all sorts of interesting things. Punkish then at times prog folk rock (or whatever Jeff Buckley is), then some metal too...All fixed as a pattern for some very artfully woven poetic lyrics.
