I remember a small commercial for the stupendously awful alt-rock band called Trapt. It ended with the downfounding sentence, "you can relate."

Paradise Lost - Elusive Cure

I have been listening to this song all day. Damn catchy.

Because cellos rock arse!!

Agreed.

You guys might like this

Break of Reality. They're a cello metal band. 4 cellists and a drummer. Above is a video of them in Union Square Park. I didn't take it, but I was there and saw the guy filming it.

Five Silent Miles - American Football

Why is it that out of all of my friends, only a very very small handful of them know who I'm talking about when I mention this band?

Shining - Goretex Weather Report

Listened to this band's first album earlier, they're... incredibly confusing. Kinda jazz but kinda metal. Either way, this record sounds promising so far...

Man, I bought that album in March on whim, it's so strange.  Pretty good though.  I love seeing people's reactions to the shift in the first track from noodly saxophone to rocking.

Unwound - All Souls Day

Unwound is stupendously rad.

Damn straight.  I bought Leaves Turn Inside You a few weeks back, and it's been blowing my mind ever since.  I need to buy some more of their stuff.

Anyhow.

The Polyphonic Spree - Get Up And Go

I was feeling kind of half bummed-out a moment ago.  Already doing better because of this album.

This is really awesome! Some wierd synth and mixed bird singing makes a really funny song.
You can download the whole album for free at upitup.com.

One of the bonus tracks on the limited edition of Leaving Your Body Map. It is a great song too.
I am a bit shocked at how much I dislike its sister release Bath. I mean they are not that different but I just loath listening to it.

HELL. YES.

The Spill Canvas - Lust A Prima Vera. I'm not quite sure what it is I like about this band. Is it because they're kinda depressing without making me wanna die? Probably.

Next it'll probably be the Seatbelts - Call Me, Call Me. Well, who can really resist these guys? I mean, if you've seen Cowboy Beebop, you're hooked. If only for the music.

Very pretty, another album I bought totally blind, with no idea as to how it would sound.  And I like how it sounds! Using samples of oriental music and sounds to make very organic music.

Decent record this, and I like the song title. The vocals are enjoyable but bordering on annoying, anyone recommend any bands like this with slightly more... well, sing-y singing?

Haha. I really have no idea about what genre this is or anything, I was just bored and reading that fourfa page that gets linked to in every damn internet spitting match about 'emo'... wound up downloading a couple of albums.

I really dig the CD and the vocals do kind of fit, so maybe I just need to get used to it. I'm not going to find anything with a vocalist easier on the ears then? :D

Ulver- Hymn 1 - Wolf and Fear

Man, the acoustic break around the start of the song is so good. I wish they had more of these breaks in this album, just to make it a bit easier to listen too. (I guess that would defeat the purpose of this album though.)

Morphine: Cure for Pain.

My god, I'd almost forgotten about this band until I was watching an old episode of Homicide: Life on the Street last night. That show always had such great music. I've realised recently that I have enough money now to buy all the music I loved back when I was a kid lying on my bedroom floor late on school-nights listening to the radio. Sometimes the music doesn't sound so good twelve years later - but Morphine were always pure sex and they always will be. In some ways the death of Mark Sandman still shocks and saddens me more than that of Kurt Cobain.

It is quite odd to find yourself taking advice on metal from the guy in The Mountain Goats but he does have great taste.
This is some of the most hardhitting and memorable metal I have heard all year. It has a nice ethereal aspect too.
