I love that show. They've started airing reruns of the first seasons here late at night and I allways catch it if I'm not too tired.

35007 - 44 05

People are doing fantastic work in the sendspace thread.

Sweet, someone upped 35007? I love the CD I've got by them... to the Sendspace thread!

Impact Winter - Kicking the Shit out of the Servants of God

Some Australian BM babd, broken up now I think, I got handed this demo on a CDR at a gig I went too once, the unique thing about this band is the singer sounds just like a Cockatoo (A bird native to Australia) it's so squaky, amazing...

Ghost- Neutral Millk Hotel.

I'm absolutely obsessing over In the Aeroplane over the sea at the moment. In the 9 years since it was released it has lost none of it's power and originality. Deffinitely a top ten album.

Anata - "The Conductor's Departure".

Totally unique technical Death Metal from sweden. What they bring, is a sense of melody and harmony you don't normally see in this genre. To me, they are masters of contrasting "pretty" and semi-jazzy melodies with the standard DM ugly tonalities, just listen to "Entropy Within" off their Myspace. The music ridiculously catchy as well, such as the downright beautiful outro riff of "Renunciation". Holy shit!

Yes - "Close To The Edge"

Fucking. Masterpiece.
I love love love love this record!

Atheist - "Unquestionable Presence"

Not much to say here, really. Some of the earliest true technical Metal put out, and still some of absolute best.
The heaviness also makes me wonder why I ever bothered detuning my guitars. These dudes play in E, and stuff like the intro to "Enthralled In Essence" is heavy as life.

Tool - Eulogy

I don't really like tool that much, but all my friends in high school were like "ZOMG!!! Tool" *orgasm* So I ended up buying quite a few of their cd's. I had the pleasure of seeing them live once and they were pretty good in that setting but on the whole I have a lot of trouble getting into their music, there's just something about it I'm missing, it's decent enough for the occasional listen but I'm rarely able to sit through a whole album without getting bored by it.

Saw them live on their most recent UK tour and they were pretty amazing. I went through a fanboy stage back in school but nowadays they're just a band I bust out every few months for nostalgia value :)

QOTSA - 3s and 7s

New album sounds promising so far, it's probably the closest thing to S/T they've done since that record, while still being new and interesting. Hell of a relief, I thought they'd totally lost the plot on Lullabies but Queens are back.

Now I've got Handsome Fur's Plague Park on. It's taking me a while to get into... it's a pretty withdrawn sound... not nearly as accessable as Wolf Parade. It's interesting anyway and I like the lyrics.

The Polyphonic Spree - Get Up And Go

I was feeling kind of half bummed-out a moment ago.  Already doing better because of this album.

The Fragile Army has not been released yet and that is not on the EP! Where have you found such a thing?

The Fragile Army leaked a while back.

Now I've got Handsome Fur's Plague Park on. It's taking me a while to get into... it's a pretty withdrawn sound... not nearly as accessable as Wolf Parade. It's interesting anyway and I like the lyrics.

Album of the year for me at the moment.

Anyhow.

Wax Mannequin - Thing Game
Johnny C doesn't lie, this guy really is excellent.  I'm listening to the album now to console myself, as I won't be able to see him preform this Saturday.

Mondo Generator - She only owns you

This just in: Nick left Queens to concentrate on rocking everyone's face off. This CD rocks about 10x harder than the last one, and that was no slouch in the rockin' department.

I thiink this whole metal-musicians-who-love-shoegaze thing is getting out of hand.

I really should get that album. I've got one of ALcest's demos, however, and it seems to be straight up raw BM. Oh well.

Speaking of Metal-Shoegaze, I'm listening to The Angelic Process's The Promise of Snakes. Their album Weighing Souls of Sand is definitely the best album of the year so far. Imagine Jesu, Sigur Ros, Neurosis and thousands of distortion pedals and you're quite close to the sound of this band.

Therion- Uthark Runa (Live)

This was one of the first songs I learnt to play on guitar, I love the main riff in this song dead simple as well.

I think Celebrators of Becomming is easily one of the best purchases I've made 6 disks of Therion for only $45.

Pretty Girl (The Way)- Sugarcult

The first time I saw these guys, they were opening for Simple Plan.  Don't ask me how that works.  They headlined Battle of the Bands at my school in January and it was pretty much awesome.  I love these guys entirely too much.

What about Metallica?????

Actually, I'm not sure if that was sarcasm or not. I am one of the very few people who likes basically everything Metallica's done, though.

I'm listening to that Nadja song again  8-)

Oh yeah, and for an attempt at most pretensious song title, I present:

Xasthur- May your Void become as deep as my Hate

not quite sure if that's pretensious or just a really terrible song title though.

I've got that beaten

Judas Iscariot - Writhing Upon The Wind At Mystic Philosophy And Dreams

I'm completely serious actually. Death,  Morbid Angel, Megadeth,  Dark Angel are all metal bands I love (from America), but none of those bands have anything on Judas Iscariot. something about the music I just really relate too. Especially on the first three JI albums for me it's almost Black Metal done almost perfectly.

The style he uses, with the simple minimal drums and the long drawn out and repetitive riffs it's just so minimal and expressive something just clicks. Black Metal's not about technically ability and playing 200 bpm, it's it's a form of expression and this is what he get's perfect.

The first 4 songs are marvellous. I still have Million Year Summer as song of the year so far. I like how they have become more melodic. Coma Waering only has shades of it and thus becomes a bit boring(to me at least). Sometimes their approach is bit preditable and bothers me a little. I'll listen some more shall I?

His pal(if kvlt bm musicians have those) Leviathan is just (as) ridiculous. He has an album called Tentacles of Whorror and a song entitled Fucking Your Ghost in Chains of Ice.
Despite this he has still made one of the greatest bm songs I have heard, Unfailing Fall Into Naught.

Leviathan are a pretty decent band actually. I haven't really heard much Xasthur, I have a copy of the album "Nocturnal Poisoning" but I'm not a huge fan, sounds like a lousy Burzum knockoff to me.

I'll check them out. Thanks. I have never really liked Burzum. I prefer what he inspired of suicidal bm artists, in my opinion they have developed his ideas into something better.
The title track on "Nocturnal Poisoning" is fantastic for example. Different strokes and all that.

Yes you shall. Dying in A-Minor and The title track are both amazing. I always thought The Promise of Snakes was better then Million Year Summer, but perhaps that's just me. I'm loving this album so much right now. It is a predictable, true, but it's still a fresh and unique sound and I don't mind if I music is a bit predictable.

Anyway, right now I'm listening to Nightmare Heaven by Arcturus. I love the trip-hop break in the middle.

Skyclad - Penny Dreadful (Full Shilling Mix)

"DJ's, VJ's, Pimps and Trollops,
Never mind music - this is bollocks!"

It's the love of the English language...and indeed language in general...that always gets me with Martin Walkyiers lyrics. He collects puns and wierd words and gypsy slang and all sorts of other little bits and pieces like some demented magpie and crams them together in the most wonderful torrent of words and imagery ever.

Darkthorne - Quintessence

One of my favorite riffs ever and the lyrics are awesome:

Ten thousand trolls, hard as rock, cold as ice
Oh, they ran when I rose to face them
Ten hungry waves they swallowed my ship
Oh, I steadily walked home (and I only got wet on my feet)

No single book was beholden to me
Oh no, no single question I cannot answer
Only one single lamp does show me the way
And that is the eye of Satan

Kylesa - Shatter the Clock

Some of the best sludge metal I have heard. A bit on the arty side, somewhat similar to Baroness. The three vocalists approach works quite well. Its a mix of hardcore shouting and gruff doom vocals plus a pinch of growling. And one of them is female too. They interspace their relentless attack with some ethereal interludes and it gives a really evocative vibe.

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

The Translated lyrics are really good for this song. I love the riff at the start too

A glade in the wood
Where the sun shines
Between the trees we are imprisoned
In this God's glade It burns it scorches
When the light licks our flesh
Goes toward the sky a smoke
A cloud of our form
Prisoners of the burials
Tormented by God's goodness
No flame no hate
They were right we have come to Hell
