Just saw the link posted at Ctrl+Alt+Del, and my god..... I know Topher Grace is not the incarnation of Eddie Brock, BUT I like him as an actor, so I pray he'll do fine.

I've never been so excited for a movie.....

I mean seriously.... LOOK AT VENOM!!!!!

I'm gonna go into the movie with the same expectations as I had for the last two: I expect that they'll mess some stuff up, make it a little too cheesy, have some kinda ropey CGI effects, but that it will be pretty fun, exciting and ass-kicking too. I'd be fairly happy with that.

I do agree with Spin that they seem to be trying to cram too many bad guys into this one, but we'll see how it pans out. For all we know Venom might not appear until the end, leaving an opening for another sequel.

I have heard that they might be putting Gwen Stacy into this one so I guess it could be her

it did show the part where Pete finally gets rid of the suit in the church with Eddie Brock looking on so Venom might be in the next one as was said

I always thought blackspidey costume = venom... considering venom is its own entity from space....and it was controlling or using peter, beacuse it needs a host. But, I shall look this up this moment.

EJ

edit: AHA! so thats how it goes in the comic. I never got a chance to actaully read hte orginals, but as a kid I watched the TV show. And it was an alien lifeform that had a will of its own, that bonded to spidey when he saved a space shuttle.

right, though there are so many alternate universes and spinoffs it's hard to really know who's the host at what time.  it's like a soap opera w/ alien symbiotes.

All told I'm looking forward to this one a lot. It's gotta be better than X3, right?

tetrahedron: I personally liked the first half. Then after that...it well... not so much. Those comics I actually got a chance to read, and again I also watched the animated series. I liked it enough to not poke my eyes our with forks, if that helps at all.

spidey originally picked up the symbiote suit in secret wars (where the beyonder stole a load of heroes and stuck em on a planet)

it doesn't count as venom unless it posesses them entirely in my opinion, spidey in the symbiote suit is just spidey in the symbiote suit to me cause he never let it get in control

also AWESOME, i just hope they don't mess up the venom origins like they did in ult.spidey

maybe the symbiote will come down with j jonah jameson's son's space mission thingy

It doesn't count as Venom unless it is Eddie Brock. I thought we established this.

venom = brock + symbiote

Also, in Ultimate Spiderman, the symbiote suit came from genetic experiments with Peter Parker's blood. Given that genetic engineering is kind of a theme in Ultimate Spiderman, and that the common '80s "OMG IT WAZ SPACE ALIENS" plot device looks pretty ridiculous these days, I would say that Venom's Ultimate origin was different rather than messed up.

The idea that the symbiote could come down from space with JJJ's son seems reasonably likely though. I can't think of any other reason for the space mission to be in the movie.

i realise it's different, and i am ok with diffferent, the rest of the ultimate line is pretty cool, gay colossus? discriminative nightcrawler? pretty cool. but i dunno. cure for cancer?  it DOES bring pete's parents into it more, but  i just don't like it as much

I do admit the first time i saw the new trailer and tobey's new hair for the movie i immediatley thought of an emo peter parker but theres so much good stuff thats gunna be packed in the movie. Sam Raimi is a director who i hace nothing but complete faith in to make this one of the most memorable comic book movies of all time

Who says an "emo" Peter Parker is a bad thing? He's got more shit to deal with in his fictional life than most wrist-slitters, and I think he has a right to get a little depressed now and then.

Plus, symbiote is totally a depressent.

i think it would detract from the story, actually.  the appealing thing about heroes is that they are basically like us - regular people with regular lives - who get put into extrordinary situations and, though they're like us, react in a way that most of us wouldn't.  such as:  peter's life sucks a lot; every time he gets close to anyone they end up in massive danger, his best friend wants his girlfriend but hates his alter-ego, etc.  he gives up, but can't face himself afterward.  he's a super-hero, not an emo-kid.  he can be emotional, but only if he's eventually heroic.  otherwise we'd feel gyped and lied to.

And we're saying he's an emo kid just because he's wearing his hair a bit different? Sterotyping isnt fun (IMHO)

One of the best points that one of my english teachers made about films was that they will never be able to have charchters express certain things (IE: being thirsty without being obvious or obstrusive). Maybe their just trying to match emotion with certain charchteristics. Here I suppose with the new Parker look, he looks "emo" because it helps portray his psyche as of late. Just little reminders that even if he dosent say that he's sad or angry or depressed, his body langauge and in this case how he dress (wears his hair etc.) shows it.

He is still spidey, no matter how he wears his hair.

Gah!  I wish it was Carnage instead of Venom . . Carnage is just so much cooler.

Anyhow, Venom IS only Venom when he's Mr. Brock.  They look much different as well.

As you can see, the actual Venom is much more muscular, and has an enormous toungue and a crazy mouth.

carnage is cooler?  i'm afraid i must disagree... venom is a deeper, more complex character.  he even turns hero sometimes and has a (pretty twisted) code of morality.
