can russian circles really be classified as metal?

today jeph was saying that he was listening to alot of metal, one of the bands was russian circles but i dont really believe that the band can exactly be classified as metal. is there something im missing here that makes them metal?

I'm not familiar with them, but Jeph also once referred to Helmet as metal, when I've always considered Helmet to be a grunge band.

I'd always considered them to heavy-ish post-rock.

I mean, there are actually heavier post-rock bands, MONO for instance.
