I am surprised there aren't more topics about this on the board (hi welcome to my first post BTW)

So The Who are going on a world tour again...

HALF THE BAND IS DEAD!

THE OTHER HALF EAT MUSHY PEAS FOR SUPPER!

come on this is not the band the wrote "I wanna die before i get old" into one of thier songs. You are Old now, some of you are not dead. Give it up. please

Now i want this to be perfectly clear, I Love The Who. I stole my parents Records (yes actual records) and have then stored away so that they can be framed or something eventually. I have all their music (hell i BOUGHT it) but when i saw this i almost cried. I really really want them to just be thier old selves.

I dont want to see Townshend break his hip smashing his guitar...

Some friends of mine went to see them play a few weeks ago. Apparently they're still pretty good. Besides, Townshend and Daltrey are the only two who actually matter.

John Entwistle was a GOD among ordinary bassplayers.  Funny thing about the who- I have enormous respect for each of the members as musicians, but I hate most of their music.

nobody explodes drums like Keith Moon. and since he died before i was even born...yeah. though Townsend is a major force behind the who, still...

it's kind of like queen. the lead singer is dead, yet they keep touring, when they should really stop. queen is not queen without Freddie Mercury...

THe new album is finally coming out in september, and what I've heard doesn't sound too bad.  But I must admit that my first thought was:

"The WHo has a new album coming out?  What are they going to call it:  'Who's Left'?!"

I saw a quip on a message board shortly after Entwhistle died --

"The Who have lost their drummer and bassist. The Beatles only have a drummer and bassist. It's time for America to meet the Whotles."

They've already got Ringo Starr's kid on drums. Why don't they just get Ringo Starr?
Anyway, last time they came here i'm like 'oh they're old and washed up' and then all the reviews said they were AMAZING. Almost every time I've seen an old artist - Bowie, Elvis Costello, Dylan- i've loved it and almost every time i've missed one I regretted it.
So i'm giving them a shot when they come back
Hell, i saw the Misfits and even with one original member the punks looked like they were having fun

Is it worth seeing the Buzzcocks when they come here?

Although they've lost some of their lustre, the Who still rock. If I can, I'm going to see them with my dad. Maybe get another t-shirt to complement the one he got in 1980, on their "very last world tour."

sorry Who nerd coming through, Pete wont smash his guitar any more, he lost the feeling for it a while back, he wont jump either. Roger will twirl the mic around like he did. i think its unfair to compare and/or put together the Beatles and the Who when considering their playing styles. The beatles, you think of the yellow submarine, i want to hold you hand, i am the Walrus. think of the who and you get an image of Pete Townsend smashing a guitar through an amp, Keith Moon setting off fire works INSIDE HIS DRUM KIT, Roger spinning the mic around damaging it and probably putting his foot through an amp or two, and John the Ox just playing the song until the rest of the band walks off stage. but would i pay to see the Beatles teamed up with the Who?in a godamn heart beat, i would punch through a crowd to see them play. For their new album, i dont know what to expect. even if its a flop ill love it. but this is just one who fan giving their bit

WFT again. But Im glad they are touring again I know some people who saw them in the two gigs they did in Leeds recently and said they rocked. If they are just doing it for the love of music it should be a good new album but if they are just doing it for money it will probably suck.

I think of Yellow Submarine, I Am The Walrus, and Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Those are the bestest Beatles songs ever.

When I think of the Who, I think of My Generation, Happy Jack and Baba Riley. Those are the bestest Who songs ever.

I would love to see the Beatles team up with the Who.

To be fair, I do think of Maxwell's Silver Hammer, cause it's on Abbey Road and that's my favourite one. However, I think of many other Abbey Road tracks before, Something and I Want You (She's So Heavy) particularily, the latter also completely destroys The Who in terms of fucking shit up.

So your saying that The Who and the Beatles won't "Join Together"?

I think if the ever did "Come Together" they might need some "Help"! and so i ask "How can you do it alone" the answer? You cannot we need some sort of group. No no "Put the money down" we must not become a charity "In spite of all the Danger" we must persevier they might be some "Rough boys" but "We can work it out".
