yeah the more i say/type the word "scene" the more i hate myself. But i didn't wanna glob up the subject with "local community of artists and musicians."

anyways...

We have a band scrambler. This is where everyone in or around the area who is interested puts their name in a hat, and four names are pulled at a time. Each group of four names is a band and you get a month or so to write two songs pick one cover and practice. At the end of this time we have a big show and all the bands perform. It's really really awesome. It's cool cause sometimes you get like 3 drummers, or 2 bassists in a band, or a band that is 50% people with no musical talent. My friend just got into a band with 2 drummers, a flutist and a comedian. Needless to say we're all really amped about what they'll come up with.

I thought I'd just put this out there, it's a good time. Anyone else do this?

hmmmm perhaps. that's not a half bad idea. We do this every month or so, so there'd be plenty of time for planning a recording of a few sessions.

I might just be able to pull it off. Considering (and here comes the "yeah, right, sure" part) that my local artistic community is PHENOMINAL it should be a pretty good watch.

I've been involved in something similar, also called a scrambler, except we didn't do the drawing names out of a hat thing. Basically the scramblers in this particular music scene were held around Halloween time so people could costume it up and dress like a band and then play covers of that band. You can do a makeshift band or play with your band that already exists. Last year my friends and I did a Kinks cover set. We also saw cover sets of: the Labyrinth soundtrack (yeah, costumes and everything- even the bulge), Roy Orbison (hella sunglasses), Daniel Johnston, two guys playing Nirvana songs on keyboards and a drum machine, Tom Petty, Electric Light Orchestra on a distorted autoharp, Stereolab, Magnetic Fields, etc.etc. It was pretty awesome-- scramblers are always a good idea and tons of fun.

i'm from Yonkers, NY, just above the city, my "scene" I guess is Westchester county.

I lived in Brooklyn for two years, and just realized I haven't changed my "location" on this baord yet.
