Well, this leaked recently, and I've managed to listen to it.

It's... interesting.  They went another direction than the one I was expecting and I have to say I do like it.  The second track sounds like they've been listening to a lot of Yes.

Oh, I fully plan on buying the album when I see them in October.  I was just antsy to hear it.

On reflection, the only song I don't like is When The War Came.

I'm absolutely loving this album.  All the songs are incredible.  Totally different direction, but still great.

I haven't heard it yet, my Decemberists fandom hath faded slightly but I will probably buy when it comes out. Which leads me to another question: is the release date October the 3rd worldwide or just the US?

I believe that's Laura Viers.  Not positive.

God, The Island is such a good song.

Just listened.  It's their weakest album so far in my opinion, but still very good.  It seems if you liked The Tain, which I didn't, you'll like this.  Still, it's The Decemberists.  I like O Valencia the best.

There is some serious ELP influence going on in that second track, and I am digging it, man.

The rest of the album is pretty good. That one track with the incredibly wanky name is the only real standout track for me at the moment, but I've only really listened to the album once, and there aren't really any songs I consider "weak" that I'd probably skip over, whereas the other two albums of theirs that I've heard both have one or two songs I skip most of the time. So I am definatly picking this one up when it comes out, it is pretty dang great.

I was going to cry if this didn't have a thread.

Anyway, I've listened to this album about 20 times now.

It is amazing.

Some songs make me insanely happy, others make me want to cry.

I love it and I'm so proud.

I did love sons and daughters, but Colin Meloy's (is that the dudes name? I am not entirely certain) pronounciation of "Cinney-mon" in that song kinda sets my teeth on edge a little.

For me, Colin Meloy's voice in general conjures the same reaction.

I was worried with the move to a major label they would start to become stale and commercial, but what I've heard (which is, admittedly, not much), it's still the same Decemberists I've grown to love over the years, with a bit of a change in style.

I bought it today and listened to it just now.

First impressions (this is only one listening, so subject to change):
I pretty much love all of it, although I thought it faltered a little towards the end; The Crane Wife (mainly part 2) dragged a bit, and Sons and Daughters seemed pretty corny, though to be fair I imagine it'll be very good live, particularly the ending. The other songs were great, particularly The Island, Yankee Bayonet, and O Valencia.

"The Perfect Crime 2" and "When The War Came" were the only two songs that didn't really click with me.  The rest is pretty excellent.

I agree with VonDook on "The Perfect Crime 2" and "When The War Came".  I like the added guitars and drums on the whole album, but that they didn't stop with the mandolins or accordians.  I really like "The Crane Wife #3," and the first half of "The Crane Wife #1 and #2"...so I guess it's #1?

I think Colin's melodies have a greater range this album, which I enjoy.

Sons and Daughters makes me smile, nod my head and tap my toes like crazy.

For whatever reason, I'm just not digging the new album. If I were to give it a rating on five, it would probably be a three, which isn't bad but not up to their normal standards.

There are some serious highlights, such as "Sons & Daughters". The rest comes off as really stale and pointless stuff that I just don't care to spend my time on.

I must disagree about Perfect Crime and When the War Came, but I hope we can all agree that The Island is great. They work well with longer songs (California One, live Chimbley Sweep, and the Tain, specifically).
