This was shown on a local Chicago News channel, where I first heard it.

It's an AMAZING accoustic cover of Hey Ya by OutKast.  Give it a listen.

   Brilliant . . god damn . . .

Covers of that song stopped being clever at least 2 months after it came out.

Good voice, though. I'll check the band out.

I know it's obvious, but Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah." I just heard the original recently, and it must have taken a brilliant musical mind to realize that there was a great song buried in that shit.

Also, the cover of Hey Ya that the OP linked to was brilliant.

Don't get me started on great covers.

Too late, you've got me started. I actually have a 12-song playlist (that being my standard template) of my favourite covers. They are thusly:

SikTh - Tupelo (Nick Cave)
Editors - Orange Crush (REM)
Happy Mondays - The Boys Are Back In Town (Thin Lizzy)
Warren Suicide - Yer Blues (The Beatles)
Guns 'n' Roses - Live And Let Die (Paul McCartney, possibly with Wings?)
Lostprophets - Cry Me A River (Justin Timberlake)
Metallica - Tuesday's Gone (Dire Straits possibly?)
Radiohead - Be Quiet And Drive (Deftones)
Nick Cave - Disco 2000 (Pulp)
Johnny Cash - In My Life (The Beatles)
The Beatles - Twist and Shout (I don't know the originator, but I know the Isley brothers did a version)
Rage Against The Machine - Maggie's Farm (Bob Dylan)

One of the greatest covers ... mainly because it was completely out of left field for me, I think is Cradle Of Filth's version of 'Devil Woman' by Cliff Richard.

Loved that.

Also ... Skyclad's Emerald ... yummie.

The Herd's version of A Walk In The Light Green (I Was Only Nineteen). They put together a cover for Triple J's Like A Version show, but it became so damn popular that they recorded a video and added it to repressings of their album The Sun Never Sets. I saw them play on Wednesday night, and this was an absolute highlight.

The Original.

clair bowdwiths (spelling) cover of fall at your feet by the finn brothers blew me away, first heard it sitting in my hotel room up north, been in love with it ever since.

come to think of it the whole cover album "she will have her way" is fantastic, i recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good mix of female vocals.

That "Hey Ya" cover is pretty good! I alsolike the original song by them.. I'd like to check them out further.

Anyway, I really like the cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" by Billy Corgan, even though it's a little unconventional.

I don't how familiar any of you are with Final Fantasy (the solo project/band not the game) but he does a cover of Bloc Party's - This Modern Love that is out of this world.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFXJKp-NgR8&mode=related&search=

His name's Owen Pallett, he played with Arcade Fire for funeral and has dipped his toes in quite a few excellent Canadian bands. Enjoy!

*EDIT*
As soon as I post this, someone just ahead of me posts a Final Fantasy cover that he likes, coincidence!?!? Yup.

The Sinatra cover on the Junior Boys' latest, 'So This Is Goodbye' is pretty stunning.  Seems to be completely sincere, which is just as well.

Someone mentioning Stereolab in the post-rock thread reminded me that (Ui + Stereolab = ) Uilab's 'St Elmo's Fire' has a high wickedness factor...

I quite enjoyed it, considering I don't even like the band much to begin with. They also do a pretty decent cover of Kickstart My Heart on it which I actually prefer to the original.

Speaking of Ben Folds, his cover of "Bitches aint shit" was fucking hilarious. Oh, and Rush doing Summertime Blues wasn't too shabby either.

The above two covers are, I believe, infinitely better than the originals.
